TWO MANY JANEWAYS? That's the conundrum at the heart of season two standout "Deadlock," and joining Bryan this week is Captain Janeway superfan Marina Kravchuk from Daily Star Trek News to talk all about. There's a lot of technobabble that only makes sense because of the years of world building going on since the TNG days, but there's also a lot of Voyager-specific tropes deployed in an episode that finds Voyager being duplicated because of a rift in subspace. And there are Vidians thrown in for good measure! Is it a Trek, Marry, or Kill?

Strange New Worlds 2.09: Subspace Rhapsody

Strange New Worlds 2.09: Subspace Rhapsody

It’s a Star Trek musical, but are we amused? Tune in to find out! Just kidding, we’re mostly very amused. Joselyn beams in to help Jeremy, Jordan, and Chelsea break down (dance?) this gigantic episode, while doing our absolute best to not break into song ourselves. (Don’t worry, we won’t be singing because that’s been done to death, and most of us can’t sing, Though there are a few fun musical parts and callbacks!)So dance about and listen to us discuss the 9th episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2, and with your help, rate it!

    Featuring:

Corrections: What is a Klingon knife called?

Hit it or Quit It? Someone wants to Hit this baby one more time!

    Pros, Khans, Neutral Zones

The Gatekeeper of Forever: Madder than ever, but also, madder than ever?

Canon Police: Does Kirk know about David?

    Your Comments

Next Time On's: Featuring a couple deleted scenes from this weeks musical.

SNW: "Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach" (s1e6) with Cassie Soliday (The Ink & Paint Folk Podcast)

PIKE'S FORMER CRUSH has a secret and this week we have guest co-host Cassie Soliday from The Ink & Paint Folk Podcast to talk about it! Is the perfect world of Majalis too good to be true or does it just seem that way to Federation outsiders?

Meanwhile, Cadet Uhura gets exposed to La'an's list of security rules -- which are more like guidelines -- and Dr. M'Benga's doctor goes on a playdate. Does this episode setup a disturbing motif in this new Star Trek series, or were the writers really just horny for the ending they wrote and worked backwards from that?

    73: Space Ham Radio

    73: Space Ham Radio
    Pen Pals.

When Lt. Commander Data contacts a girl named "Sarjenka" from a pre-warp civilization in distress on his 24th-century space ham radio, it leads to a super-secret philosophical discussion about the nature of the Prime Directive in Captain Picard's quarters. Should the Prime Directive be interpreted strictly or loosely? How should Starfleet officers weigh the high-stakes, life-or-death consequences for an entire civilization against their responsibility and oath to uphold the Prime Directive? Would interpreting Sarjenka's "whisper in the dark" as a formal request for help count as "sophistry," as Captain Picard claims? And what role do friendships and emotions play in determining moral obligation in light of the Prime Directive?

In this episode of Meta Treks, hosts Zachary Fruhling and Mike Morrison discuss the second-season episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, "Pen Pals." But this is episode 73 of Meta Treks, and the number 73 has a very special meaning in Morse code in ham radio circles: "Best regards." Because Zachary himself has been a third-generation licensed ham radio operator since he was just a tad older than Sarjenka, this episode of Meta Treks debates the role and responsibilities of radio communication in the Star Trek universe, whether that newfangled subspace radio or good old-fashioned RF. Zachary and Mike also discuss Wesley Crusher's first command and what it means to have "command presence."
