119 - Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home [1986]
Stew couldn't make it this week, so Justin and John decided to continue on their Star Trek marathon with Star Trek IV! The one with the whales! Directed by the late, great Leonard Nimoy, this film takes the Star Trek film franchise into more comedic territory. What do the guys think of that? Check out the episode to find out and let us know what you think of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home!

Meanderings #236: "Star Trek" and the Quest to be Better
Paramount has just released the first four "Star Trek" movies in a single box on 4K UHD. At its best, "Trek" is aspirational, striving to push us into being better people and doing more for our world (and beyond). Maybe that means they should have done better with this set and released all six movies based on TOS in this set. Maybe not. Instead of focusing on that, let's talk "Trek."
Episode 139: Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn (1982)
We head back into the final frontier as we put a bow on our Summer of Sequels! In this episode Jamie and Doug talk extensively about Kirstie Alley's real eyebrows (just let them put the fake ones on), Jamie takes some time to explain the difference between a War and a Trek and Doug manages to tie a Star Trek movie to an episode of Full House. There's talk of the ship's masturbation chamber, terrible, terrible matte paintings, how they might get from here to whales & so much more nonsense. Sorry Trek fans, you're in for a rough ride. But please join us as we discuss Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khhhhaaaaaaaannnn!

Marry, Kiss or Miss [Star Trek] - Riker, O'Brien, Sulu
This is a game called MFK - Marry, Kiss or Miss. You know how to play. This episode: Riker, O'Brien, Sulu.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)
Just when you thought we had covered all the '80s space classics: "E.T.," "The Empire Strikes Back," "The Last Starfighter," and "The Thing," listener John Clyburn takes the podcast where no Shat has gone before with "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan."
Star Trek II widely is considered the best "Star Trek" movie ever made, and "Shat The Movies" certainly recognizes why: a chesty Ricardo Montalban, a young Kirstie Alley, and a surprise death that came years before "Game of Thrones" decided anyone was fair game.
But look closer, and you'll see a few cut corners, a few plot holes, and one totally disgusting reason to sleep with cotton balls in your ears. Why do the sets look so cheap in a post-Star Wars era? Why are the deaths to melodramatic? And why doesn't anyone at Star Fleet come up with better security protocols than sending your admiral down to check things out?
If you like nerdy commentary, this is the episode for you.

Legends Podcast #424; Star Trek 2009 (Tenth Anniversary)
Ten years ago, director J.J. Abrams brought Star Trek back to the big screen in grand fashion, with a young cast and a surprising link to the original series. 2009’s Star Trek proved to be a summer blockbuster and the highest-grossing Trek film to date. It also proved to be Abram’s audition reel for a gig directing Star Wars - which he always professed was his first love. But a decade later, as J.J. wraps up his Star Wars run with The Rise of Skywalker, has the intervening time dimmed the shine of Star Trek’s lens flare? Or can we still detect a hint of that brand-new starship smell?
Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! These discussions will be spoiler filled and may explicit language, so consider yourself warned.

Episode 206: Mystery Trek Theater 2287
BEST George Takei BLOOPER Ever! How do YOU say Takei!? Star Trek, Whales & Turkeys - Oh My!
OK, you Guyz! THIS is probably our most popular blooper of all time! It’s my intro blooper and second interview with the legendary George Takei (aka Captain Sulu from Star Trek). It’s MeGa-fun and Entertaining! That’s why we’re pulling this one out of the 2013 Piper’s Picks Planetary Headquarters archives! It’s THAT funny!
All goes wrong from the get-go! When I tried to do my intro…well, YOU tell me what went wrong! 4 years later, I’m still not sure (and I don’t know if I ever will be). We eventually move on to talking about saving whales, saving turkeys, Tom Hanks, changing history, and voicing a computer (Majel Roddenberry would be so impressed)!
Oh, if you’re not sure about Free Birds (yeah, it sounds like an odd concept for a cartoon), it’s really good and much funnier than you’d ever think! put it on your Netflix list for Thanksgiving!
Let’s get into a little behind the scenes info! George Takei and his partner, Brad Altman are both really nice! Mr. Altman actually came up to me before this interview and said how much he and Mr. Takei liked my first interview from the Larry Crown premiere in 2011. That’s a HuMoNgOiD complement for me! You can see it (the interview, not the complement #teehee) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ebn0q3UT184
If you’re a fan of George Takei or interested in Asian-American history, definitely check out the PBS special George Takei: Growing Up Asian-American. It’s about the hardships that Mr. Takei experienced growing up in the United States. http://www.pbs.org/wnet/pioneers-of-television/video/george-takei-growing-up-asian-american/
