    About Susie Boutry

    Blog | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

Susie has loved reading for as long as she can remember. Some of her fondest childhood memories involve long afternoons at the library and then reading late into the night. More than ten years ago, she began journaling about the books she read and turned that passion into writing about books. Her first forays were as a guest reviewer on a friend’s blog, but she soon realized she wanted to be reviewing and talking about books on a blog of her own. From there, Novel Visits was born. That was in 2016 and, though the learning curve was steep, she loves being a part of the book community. Novel Visits focuses on new novel reviews (print and audio), previews of upcoming releases, and musings on all things bookish.

WCPEver Episode 374 - 2021 Summer Reading | Batman: Creature of the Night

On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we finished our summer reading program with Batman: Creature of the Night from Kurt Busiek and the late John Paul Leon.

Beginning in late 2017, Busiek returns with his take on Batman, using the same concept that he used a decade earlier with Superman: Secret Identity. Beginning in the 1960s, we follow the story of Bruce Wainwright who happens to be a fan of Batman. His life starts to follow a similar path like that of Bruce Wayne, surrounded by Alfred, Robin and Detective Gordon.

We are joined in the studio by friend-of-the-show Jeff Smith who suggested the Batman mini-series to us.

We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you’ve been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email. We want to hear from you! As always, we are the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! and we hope you enjoy the show.

Welcome to Season 2 of the Arkansas A.W.A.R.E. podcast series.

Join Betsy Kindall, Nicole Fairchild, and Stacy Moore as they discuss issues related to mental health in education. Their conversations are witty and relate-able, simultaneously shedding light on issues that can sometimes be hard to confront or understand. These episodes are chunked into small bites and packed with information that would be helpful to educators, parents, children.....anyone! We want to help make everyone more A.W.A.R.E.!

Project A.W.A.R.E. is a grant program funded by S.A.M.H.S.A. (the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration). The Sandy Hook school shooting happened in December of 2012. In 2013 the White House initiative "NOW IS THE TIME" came out with 2 key goals:

    1. Make schools safer and more nurturing.

    2. Increase access to mental health services.

The "NOW IS THE TIME" initiative laid the foundation for federal grants like A.W.A.R.E. Arkansas applied for and received the second round of funding for A.W.A.R.E. in October of 2018. Our project is dedicated to Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education.

WCPEver Episode 359 - Word to Your Mother

WCPEver Episode 359 - Word to Your Mother

We are quickly reaching the end of the school year in the offices of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! Our children/summer interns are eager to get started on researching comics for their fathers. We are getting the sunscreen ready in case we dare to step outside. And we are gearing up for our 2021 WCPEver Summer Reading Project. But we need your help!

For the three months of the summer, we want to read three mini-series of 4-6 issues in length. We want to read one from Marvel, one from DC, and one from any other publisher. Our request is that the issues or collection is readily available so we can read it and have others join in on the fun.

We would love to have you send in your suggestions. You can email us or reach us on social media to give us your suggestions. If we choose a title that you nominated, we would like to have you join us on our podcast recording when we discuss the series. Please get your suggestions to us by May 28.

We have some talk about Jupiter's Legacy on Netflix and The Bad Batch on Disney+. We also review our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. We don't get to say this often, but all of our picks came out yesterday from the Distinguished Competition. As always, stop by your local comic shop and pick up your books!

We must warn you that the trivia question this week is one of the hardest questions EVER! If you think you are smart enough to get it right, send us an answer and win a prize!

The Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! is proudly sponsored by Clint’s Comics. Clint’s is located at 3941 Main in Kansas City, Missouri, and is open Monday through Saturday. Whether it is new comics, trade paperbacks, action figures, statues, posters, or T-shirts, the friendly and knowledgeable staff can help you find whatever it is that you need. You should also know that Clint’s Comics has the most extensive collection of back issues in the metro area. If you need to find a particular book to finish the run of a title, head on down to Clint’s or check out their website at clintscomics.com. Tell them that the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! sent you.
