Megamind: Nature vs. Nurture, the Toxicity of Nice Guy Syndrome & Twisting Superhero Story Tropes

Megamind: Nature vs. Nurture, the Toxicity of Nice Guy Syndrome & Twisting Superhero Story Tropes

Ever wondered how your upbringing and environment influence your life decisions and personality? Can you alter your destiny by making conscious choices? Join us as we dissect the 2010 blockbuster animated film, Megamind, analyzing its central theme of Nature vs Nurture. We go on a fascinating exploration of the characters Megamind, Metro Man, and Tighten (Titan), scrutinizing the impact of their upbringing and circumstances on their life paths.

We take a hard look at the intriguing character of Mega Mind. How did being raised by criminals shape his identity? Does he fit into the conventional villain mold, or does he break free? The complexities of his relationships, especially his attempts to woo Roxanne, are put under the microscope, drawing interesting parallels with Lois Lane from the Superman adaptations. Our discussion wouldn't be complete without delving into the subtle messages around power dynamics and its influence on relationships.

Our lively conversation ultimately leads us to the concept of freedom, as depicted in the film. We dwell on the symbolic 'death' of Megamind and its implications for his character development. The repercussions of this event on the city's inhabitants provide a unique perspective on freedom and societal expectations. Get ready to unravel the hidden layers of this box-office hit and its compelling characters on our insightful podcast episode.

    Are We Creating Mass Murderers?

    • Andreas Lubitz. Suicide or mass murder? And did we have anything to do with it? PLEASE BE AWARE that anti-anxiety medications work well for most people, as I stated in this episode. If you're on anti-anxiety medication, always take your proper dosage as prescribed by your doctor and if you ever have any thoughts of suicide or anything of that nature, contact your doctor IMMEDIATELY! A simple dosage or medication change can fix that! Be smart and be safe!

Batman (1989) - The Special Episode

Batman (1989) - The Special Episode

Bam! Pow! We have a supersized episode for you because we are covering one of our favorite superheroes: Batman!!! Our March Madness winner, Batman (1989), was a pop culture phenomenon that inspired a whole new love for Gotham’s Caped Crusader. AND we are so lucky to be joined by our resident comic book and superhero expert: Ben! Ben walks us through the world of Batman comic storylines and their relationship to on-screen portrayals of the Dark Knight (and to help prep for all Batman trivia needs). We discuss our ideal Bruce Wayne/Batman and Joker characteristics, why we like Batman’s villains so much, our thoughts on the controversial casting, our appreciation for Tim Burton’s vision, and more! Ben also bestows upon us his ~definitive ranking~ of Batman adaptations. Our Bat Signal is up and we can’t wait for you to take flight with us in the quest to defend our love for this Batman movie!

*NOTE: This episode contains explicit language and sensitive material

*NOTE FROM EMMA: At 5:35 “Catwoman” is meant to be said instead of “Batwoman”

    * NOTE FROM ISABELLA: Shout-out to the actor who plays the waiter falling over in the museum scene- you did an awesome job!

Episode 13: MCU Villains & Crew

Welcome to Screen Tea Podcast, and even more importantly, welcome to MARVEL MOVIE MAY! Join Lisha and Juliet for the FINAL of THREE FUCKING EPISODES as they break down their thoughts and opinions about the characters and actors within the Marvel Cinematic Universe! (They thought they could bang out 80 characters in one episode. Turns out what you've suspected all along is true; they are actually perpetually exhausted trash heaps with poor time management skills rather than human beings, so, you get three episodes!) Put on the kettle and listen to them discuss fantastic actors who must have owed some major favors, the brilliance of Jake Gyllenhaal (even though Quentin Beck was a little bitch), and whatever the hell the Grandmaster was all about.

Ep. 314: Harley Quinn: Birds of Okay

Birds of Prey gives Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn a chance to break out on her own, away from the Joker and away from the general mess of the DCEU. But despite good performances and a decent plot, it was...okay. Tejas and Dinkar discuss what they liked about the movie and how they think it could have been better.
