    The Parky Charter

    The Parky Charter

The Movers and Shakers are back in the pub to kickstart series 3! And what better way to mark this new beginning than by picking up where the last series left off: with the attempt to write a charter for Parkinson's care in the UK. The gang have been speaking to international Parkinson's groups and collating your thoughts and recommendations, and they're here to announce the BIG FIVE charter commitments that they'll be taking to Downing Street. They're also joined in the pub by Caroline Rassell, CEO of Parkinson's UK, and down-the-line by Ted Thompson of the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Presented by Rory Cellan-Jones, Gillian Lacey-Solymar, Mark Mardell, Paul Mayhew-Archer, Sir Nicholas Mostyn and Jeremy Paxman.

This week Dion and Joe talk about drink and what is left when you drain the pool. Dion takes Joe through his own story of recovery and explains why war stories are for amateurs.

Free State with Joe Brolly and Dion Fanning is a Gold Hat Production in association with SwanMcG.

#159 Dr. Anna Lembke: Between Pleasure and Pain
Are you scrolling on your phone constantly? How badly do you crave that morning cup of coffee? Are you compulsively gambling, drinking, shopping, or even reading romance novels just to fall asleep? The potential for addiction is everywhere in our society, and on this episode of The Knowledge Project psychiatrist and author Dr. Anna Lembke discusses dopamine, addictive behaviors, warning signs and treatment for addiction, and how our brains handle all that pleasure and pain in life.

Dr. Lembke is professor of psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine and chief of the Stanford Addiction Medicine Dual Diagnosis Clinic. She appeared in the 2020 Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma to discuss the addictive nature of social media, and she is the author of the 2021 New York Times bestseller Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence, which explores how to moderate compulsive overconsumption in a dopamine-overloaded world.
