💔 “I hate relying on people for help, but I had to.”

🙏“People I never even met at church came up & said, “we’re praying for you & your daughter.””

🙏 “That’s when I changed how I prayed to God. Instead of, please don’t let it be this, it was, whatever this is, I know You have a plan. I know You know what it is. I need You to give me the strength & guidance to deal with this.”

🙏 “There’s always a belief in prayer & the power of prayer & it’s hard to trust in that - does it work? I lived that. I do believe in prayer.”

    NOW…

❤️ “If I say yes to things I ask, is that brining value or am I saying yes because it’s what I’ve always done & been the one to help.”

❤️ “I have witnessed the power of prayer, so I’m going to return that. Maybe my one, little prayer will help.”

❤️ “We ended up to a great ending to our story & a miracle.”

❤️ “I have a new outlook on life.”

A Journey of LGBTQ+ Advocacy, Recovery and Tattoos

“As an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and individuals facing addiction and mental health challenges, my tattoos have become conversation starters. They provide an opportunity for me to share my story and create a safe space for others to open up about their own experiences.”

Welcome to Your Ink Story Podcast, where we explore the fascinating world of tattoos and the stories behind them.

On Episode 16 we chat with Dylan Fredricey, a remarkable individual with a powerful journey of transformation.

Dylan is a passionate advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, particularly those facing substance abuse and mental health challenges.

As the founder and director of business development for a nonprofit startup outpatient drug and alcohol treatment program, Dylan's work is making a significant impact on the lives of many.

“My journey in recovery was not an easy one, but it has given me a sense of purpose and a desire to make a difference in the lives of others. By sharing my story and working in the field of drug and alcohol treatment, I hope to inspire hope and create positive change in our communities.”

During this INKspirational conversation, Dylan shares his own ink story, from the rebellious beginnings of getting his first tattoo on his 18th birthday to the evolution of his body art during his recovery journey.

John 5: Even Jesus Can Do Nothing On His Own Authority

    John 5:16-24 (LSB)

Andrew and Edwin notice Jesus's claims about personal authority. Surely, if anyone in all of human history had the right to act on His own authority, Jesus would be the one. But He didn't. Neither should we. In this episode, our hosts discuss how Jesus determined what the Father authorized.

Who Needs To Hear? (Sharing Your Faith)

Who Needs To Hear? (Sharing Your Faith)

Rounding out this series on Sharing Your Faith, this episode looks more specifically at those who we should be sharing Christ to.  If we have a sphere of influence (immediate or expanded), we ask ourselves "Do they know Jesus?"  Sometimes that answer presents itself!  But we pray through that and if there is an open door, we take that opportunity to share our faith and to share our testimony.  This process doesn't need to be overcomplicated but it DOES need to happen as we are called and commanded to share our faith and our hope in Christ.  This episode leaves with a challenge:  try it out and see for yourself!  If you have questions or have someone you are praying for/have shared Christ with, I'd love to hear from you.  As always, you can email me at info@derekcharlesjohnson.com  BE BOLD, SHARE JESUS!

    Show Don't Tell!

    Show Don't Tell!

In this episode, Max and Kelley explore the best way to show what you mean rather than telling. In acting or business, it's a vital skill to have. For example, if someone acts up at a wedding, rather than mention it as a line of dialogue, do the scene where the mother-in-law has a meltdown - that's much more interesting.  Max also uses examples from the acting guru. Jerzy Grotowski, on using an exercise in which you use animals to show what your character would be in the wild.

Kelley also talks about how people with the least experience often make up for that lack by telling but not really having much to show to justify their claims.

We Recognize, We Remember, We Reach Out - Psalm 66 (Summer of Psalms)

We Recognize, We Remember, We Reach Out - Psalm 66 (Summer of Psalms)

    Shout for joy to God, all the earth;
        sing the glory of His name;
         give to Him glorious praise!
Say to God, “How awesome are Your deeds!
So great is Your power that Your enemies come cringing to You. Psalm 66:1-3

In Psalm 66, there are several themes we can isolate and pull out and apply to our daily lives in Christ.  Two of those themes are just recognizing Who He is and remembering what He has done.  A third theme is to take all that we know about Him and reach out to a lost and dying world around us.  These 3 R's:  recognizing, remembering, and reaching are the basis for this week's episode and help to shape our understanding of this very worshipful, praise-inspiring passage.

    Shepherds Heard It First

    Shepherds Heard It First

When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”  Luke 2:15

In regards to the Christmas story, there are many characters to study and examine.  2000 years later, we still ask why angels appeared to lowly shepherds and why were they the first ones given an audience with the Messiah, the King of Kings.  There are implications for us even today as we study the shepherds -- both in their choice as heralds of the newborn king and their example as ones who simply gave glory to God.  Their story and inclusion is important; they heard it first.  We can follow their steps as well by hearing and responding and spreading the Gospel story.

    Tell No One

    Tell No One

I am an oversharer. I talk too much and listen too little. The issue with this is I read the reactions to that sharing and hang too much of my happiness on the response, the likes, the affirmations. There is certainly room in life to tell people things and read their feedback. But I am learning to "tell no one." I am learning that social media has programmed my brain to post and hang my joy on the reactions.

But with the help of Captain America, Bradley Cooper, and Joe Burrow, I am learning to keep more to myself. I am learning to enjoy the event for its own sake. I am learning to enjoy the people who I am with and not tether my joy to how we I display it or the support it draws from onlookers.

In this episode, we dig in on some really cool quotes. The outcome is a deep sense of joy in the moment, and less social media dependency on the need for people to love it. This frees us up to stay in the moment and determine its value real time, without the need for an audience to validate.

    - Why do many of us hang so much joy on how many people applaud or like our life?

    - How has social media taken us out of the present moment and to how you will put it on display?

    - What comes from telling no one? How does a moment with family change when it is just for you?

    - What if you go on vacation and tell no one? How will it change your focus during the trip?

    - Why did Jesus teach us to tell no one when we give, pray and fast?

    The Platform You Have

    The Platform You Have

Today's podcast dives into how we use what we have for the glory of God.  The platform we have to proclaim His truth can take several forms.  Some of this is directed at those on the stage.  Some of it is not.  You may never take a “stage” so to speak and that is ok.  But much of this applies in general terms to the ones you do affect.

As we begin, here are some thoughts and questions I’ve had after recently going out to perform in front of others.  These help frame some of the context of where I am going today:

The allure of the stage can be deceiving.

Is this done under my power or God’s?

Will it be my glory or His?

Is this my ministry or His?

Episode 101: Tell | Possible Series Ep. 4

Student Leadership University’s mission is to develop and equip student leaders to think, dream, and lead. We strive to instill future tense thinking; character-driven decision making; ownership of biblical values; and a commitment to influence through service.

    Show Notes:

It is possible to tell a redemption-love-kind-of-story when Jesus is the hero of your story.

The story begins with a holy and heavenly calling

We are all formed and called before we were born.
A calling doesn’t have to mean a calling to vocational ministry…you can be called to be a vet, or a solider, or a mother, etc.
A calling is not singular, you are called too many things in life.
A calling is spread out across your life.

The story is characterized by obedience that leads to opportunity

Because of one persons obedience, thousands and thousands of people were blessed. The same is true of all of us today.

The story focuses on with God’s wants for God’s world
