41. Cooler Aging: Great Tasting Venison, Even in the Southern Heat
Take proper care of your meat to ensure that it is delicious and tender. There are obvious many different methods, and some work better in different areas, and on different animals. In this episode, I describe my process of caring for meat and still letting it age and tenderize, even in the south where it is usually too warm to hang meat. When your meat is properly handled, aged, and stored the only challenge that remains is not overcooking it.
Good luck this deer season!
Harsh and Tender
Certain moments in life require us to be tough, but other moments yield better results when we handle them with tenderness. Many men were raised not to cry, to be tough, and that tenderness would be perceived as weakness. Meanwhile, women absorb that femininity and harshness are incompatible. As it turns out, there are times for harsh reactions, but empathy and tenderness provide more conversation, connection, and even power.

Wild At Heart
Mrs. Ellis’ final selection in the “Month o’ Bev” did indeed (as she intended) provide fodder for a furious back-and-forth. The movie in question in the Next 180 Project believes in individuality and personal freedom…and also laying it on very thick (thick lipstick especially). Then again, David Lynch was never known for subtlety. His “comedy” isn’t particularly funny, but his love story doesn’t need quotes around it because there’s no doubt this film is very passionate. Kudos to Nic Cage and Laura Dern for selling THAT part of the movie so well. But therein lies the problem: major shifts in tone that just don’t work. As with all Lynch films, this one is complicated and controversial. It’s just not as entertaining or as deliciously horrifying as his best work. So love us tender (or hate us not so tenderly) as we wrap up January with some Wilding & Hearting.
Well, Actually… Precious was entered into about half a dozen film festivals outside North America in 2009, so the Precious team did in fact do A LOT of travelling. Also, Dune is the only Lynch film to have an Oscar nomination for its Sound Mixing.

Getting into the Light – Paul M. Williams
John 3:16-21
There’s something wonderful about the sun (S-U-N); its sheer power and brilliance in casting forth its rays; reaching every inch it seems of the earth’s surface. Yet do you know, there are some places that even this great light can’t reach—chasms which burrow deep beneath the earth’s surface—their steep and rocky sides shielding out the light. The deeper that chasm goes, the greater the darkness becomes! Do you know, I’ve found that the human heart is not too dissimilar; like that great chasm, it is adept at concealing itself from the searching rays of the SON (S-O-N).
This sermon is a call for the people of God to prepare their hearts as to how they intend to hear from God. It is a call for willingness on the behalf of us, to step into the light of God’s searching truth, in order that we might be brought up to higher ground.

1 Peter in HD (Part 44) -- The Passage That Peter NEVER Should Have Had to Pen
Do why DID Peter have to write this?
As you are about to hear in this PODCAST, why do we need to read and heed this?
We’ve hit a milestone in our 1 Peter in HD series. This marks the halfway point. 2 1/2 chapters down; 2 1/2 chapters to go!
Four times in 2 1/2 chapters, Peter makes this heartfelt plea. He does so for a very good reason.

1 Peter in HD (Part 43) -- If Clichés Could Kill You
As you will hear in this PODCAST, there is a myth so commonly taught that it has almost become cliché. So universal is this teaching that if I echoed it in this message, very few would even question it.
Yet, it is one of the most exhaustingly exasperating, or self-exalting teachings we could ever hear.
And in that sense, it can often be diabolically defeating for any Christian. Perhaps even for you.
Give this a listen, and see what you think.
Please remember that depending upon your web browser and connection speed, it may take up to 60 seconds for this podcast to begin to play.

This week I’m speaking to Felicia Pride and it could not be timelier, because we dive into the how your self-worth is connected to your creative process.
Felicia is currently a writer on Ava DuVernay’s QUEEN SUGAR and the co-writer and executive producer of the upcoming 2019 feature film REALLY LOVE produced by Charles D. King’s MACRO.
Pride began her writing career as an entertainment journalist, contributing stories to VIBE, The Root, The Baltimore Sun and others. After graduating from Emerson College with her master’s degree in writing, literature and publishing, she worked in New York’s book publishing scene, pre-Kindle era, before carving out a niche for herself advocating for and covering the literary world from an African-American perspective.
Pride eventually became an author, penning six books, including the young adult novel, PATTERSON HEIGHTS, recognized by the American Library Association. She was tapped by Simon & Schuster to pen two books in their EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS book series based on the hit show.
After refocusing her talents on writing more dynamic content for TV, film and digital, Pride took a leap of faith and moved from DC to Los Angeles. By day, she served as the Director of Independent Film at Tugg, acquiring films for theatrical and educational distribution while writing screenplays at night. By 2016, she was selected as a Film Independent Screenwriting Fellow and in the following year, Pride was chosen as one of eight writers for NBC’s Writers on the Verge program for television writing. Now, she’s setting her sights on building her production company Felix & Annie, that’s dedicated to creating dope film, TV, digital, and book projects for Gen X audiences of color.

God Wants Your Heart To Be Tender - Admonition 61
Ephesians 4:32
God wants your heart to be tender. Many things in this life will toughen' you up, but few things in this life will make you more tender. It requires an effort to keep your heart tender and pliable before God. Are you keeping your heart tender today?

Everyday Buddhism 22 - Release Your Cows
In a listener-requested podcast I relate how the story of releasing cows from Thich Nhat Hanh’s book No Mud, No Lotus: The Art of Transforming Suffering, helped me find freedom from suffering over a series of minor personal losses and disappointments...and freedom FROM the losses themselves.
We each have "cows" we're grasping onto. According to Thich Nhat Hanh, our biggest "cows" are our narrow ideas of happiness. We suffer because of grasping to those ideas. Every one of us has cows to be released.
We continue to suffer until we are able to release the very ideas themselves. Join me as I tell me story about finding freedom from the suffering of loss—and from the losses themselves—by digging my lotus roots into the mud of life, to become relaxed and tender, instead of rigid.
