Ken welcomes author, activist and pastor Nathaniel Manderson. After reading Nate's article on Salon.com ("Evangelical Theology Is What Made the Texas Abortion Outrage Possible"), Ken reached out to learn more. Nate agreed to a podcast interview. We learn that Nate, an ordained Baptist minister, is, like Ken, a seminary graduate (M. Div., Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Boston). They compare academic notes. Nate finished his undergraduate degree from UMass Dartmouth where he (the only male in the class) made a presentation on the Promise Keepers in his class on Women's studies. The two discuss the rise of Donald Trump as standard-bearer for evangelicalism, the effort to undo Roe v. Wade, LGBTQ inclusion and the current divide over race in America. Linda McClain, a BU School of Law professor of law, discusses what it would mean to codify Roe v. Wade, after Texas enacted one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country. McClain also talks about previous attempts to codify Roe v. Wade, the Women’s Health Protection Act, and the future of abortion access in this country.

Note: A few days after this podcast was recorded, the US House of Representatives passed the Women's Health Protection Act. The act now goes to the Senate, where it is considered to be unlikely to pass.

The abortion debate should be one of the most interesting discussions we can have - it involves important aspects of individual freedom, the definition of life, morality, and gender issues but also has real practical consequences.  But the debate always disappoints as it devolves into bipartisan bickering and dogmatic statements.  In this podcast, I discuss two of my more pathetic attempts to engage in a debate on this topic.  Also, I manage to beat my previous record with 3 Kardashian references in one episode.  #ParkerBanshee
