Setting Intentions with Freddie Valente Perfeito

Setting Intentions with Freddie Valente Perfeito

Jenn speaks to Freddie Valente-Perfeito, a yoga teacher based in Madeira, Portugal! A lawyer in her past life, Freddie discovered yoga in 2014 and has not looked back since. She then went on her self-growth journey traveling around Asia teaching yoga in India, Bali, Costa Rica, and Sri Lanka (where we met at Soul & Surf Retreat)! Besides for letting Freddie share her corporate to yoga journey I wanted to add that she has the most amazing Spotify playlist for working out and practicing yoga! So have a listen to it too! (Recorded on January 28, 2022)

    About Freddie:

Frederica Valente Perfeito, was born and raised in Madeira Island, a Portuguese Island in the Atlantic Ocean. She always wanted to be a lawyer, but once she began her studies, she felt something was wrong, she didn't know what so she continued studying and then working for almost 8 years as a lawyer until the had an epiphany in a music festival, where she realized she was unhappy, no self-love, no love for her lifestyle.

She decided to practice yoga in Lisbon and quickly something clicked, she quit her law career, left for India and never looked back. Freddie has 500hrs of TTC under her belt and has worked at surf and yoga camps in Portugal, Sri Lanka, Costa Rica, teaches yoga and runs her own retreats now back in Madeira since the pandemic started.

227 "Holistic Health" with Cornelia Wathen, Diana Seiler and Alannah Henneberry

227 "Holistic Health" with Cornelia Wathen, Diana Seiler and Alannah Henneberry

Today I get to speak with three members of the Holistic Health Community,Cornelia Wathen, Diana Seiler, and Alannah Henneberry.

Since 2012 HHC has offered Community Holistic Healthcare days at the Marbletown Community Center, 3564 Main Street, Stone Ridge (Route 209), on the third Tuesday of each month, from 4:00–8:00 PM. Then in March 2020 they shifted to offer virtual sessions during the last week of each month. Now that they are back to in person, they continue this virtual offering an ongoing event for out-of-town practitioners, for practitioners whose modalities are not appropriate for shared space (such as sound healing) and for practitioners who prefer virtual work.

During these events practitioners offer a wide range of services including acupuncture, reflexology, chiropractic, massage, Brennan Healing Science, Reiki, OrthoBionomy, NeurOptimal, Biophonton Therapy, One Light Healing Touch, Attunement, Reconnective Healing, Matrix Energetics, Jin Shin Jyutsu, Hypnotherapy, The Emotion Code, Spacious Heart Guidance, Psycho-Spiritual Counseling, Craniosacral Therapy, and much more!

Additionally, they offer a variety of special events, including speakers and workshops related to expanding consciousness and exploring holistic health, and in collaboration with the Rosendale Theatre Collective, they co-sponsor the screening of films related to health and well-being. See their Film Archive  for the full scope of programming.

The Holistic Health Community operates under the principle of Sacred Reciprocity/Paying it Forward. So, though there is no charge for services, they encourage sacred reciprocity by giving a donation, by doing volunteer work or by an act of loving kindness for someone in need. No one is turned away.

A little about my guests before we get into the conversation:

Cornelia Wathen regularly offers Brennan Healing Science and Emotion Code work at HHC events. She is one of the founders of The Holistic Health Community, and coordinates the Community Holistic Healthcare Days and Virtual Holistic Healthcare Weeks.

Diana Seiler is a licensed Thai Massage practitioner and instructor and has been serving with the Holistic Health Community for several years, most recently overseeing their Regenerative Farming: Soil to Soul Program.

And finally, Alannah Henneberry is an energy worker and certified Shamanic Reiki Healing Master. She has joined their mission to help advance the Holistic Health Community's Holistic Healthcare to the People! initiative, aiming to make holistic healthcare accessible to locally underserved communities through their Outreach Program.

Today’s show was engineered by Ian Seda of Radio Kingston.

Shout out to Amy Shark, we bloody love your name.

Plus Harley's gone to get another massage and to be fair he has a genuine question for our ex-masseuse Nikki Britton.

When Wellness Meets Birth Activism with Kemi Johnson

When Wellness Meets Birth Activism with Kemi Johnson

As a therapist I always ask clients about their own births as it is clear the affect it has on the physical structures or the body as well as the physiology.

Birth is a massive event in your life - your own birth and the birth of your children but what if it could be a positive rite of passage (or even orgasmic) rather than something to fear.

Have you ever considered just how much your own birth has impacted your life, your choices, your mental health as a child and all the way into adulthood?

What if it could have been different? What would the impact of this be on the world when it is such a fundamental event in life.

There is a huge amount of evidence to show how significant  birth is - for the whole family and our communities at large.

In this weeks episode I am talking with the magnificent Kemi Johnson - an expert in the birth world - an activist, educator, birth nerd and birth keeper.

In this powerful episode we talk about:

The impact and trauma of c section on the body - every layer of the body is cut into and this is more significant, affecting your baby and your own body in ways you may not have realised are linked.

The power of Bowen technique (which I teach on the sacred Health training) for the whole family and how it positively impacts babies health.

What is Industrialised birthing and what a birth looks like when there is real choice and autonomy.

Impact of birth on body and first breath - the links to anxiety and function.

We talk about the anatomy of the breasts and specifically them being an extension of the heart.

What it looks like to birth outside of the system and how complimentary therapies such as Bowen are vital for everyone .

Come over to Instagram and let me know what you learnt  after listening to this episode and if you want to be able to work with babies and whole families using light touch get in touch.

    About Kemi:
I am a mother and a birthkeeper. I have been in the birthroom as a mother, doula, midwife and now as a birthkeeper. Parents have permitted me the privilege of refining my knowledge on physiological/natural birth and now I spend all of my days loving my family and friends and facilitating healthy, happy, ecstatic births for anyone who will listen. I am also a fearless loud mouth and game changer on social media.

Two Comedians, One Hotel Room And An Impending Stroke

Two Comedians, One Hotel Room And An Impending Stroke

    Happy Monday Legends!!

It's been a weekend full of gigs for us at the Adelaide Fringe so it's safe to say we have completely lost our minds today!

Harley's gone and gotten himself a festival massage which turns in to a nice awkward conversation about both our private parts, because of course it did.

And Nikki's decided to be all swanky with her accommodation this weekend after she had a horrible experience at her first place of residence involving some bodily fluid.
    Enjoy!

Three Vital Communication Tips to Attract More Clients

Three Vital Communication Tips to Attract More Clients

In this weeks episode I share with you 3 tips in how to communicate to attract clients (and keep them.)

Have you got an elevator pitch and does it turn clients away or towards your business?  I have seen it go wrong with wellness practitioners so many times in the past and its disheartening

Are you ethical, prioritising the clients health over your income and can you have integrity and build a successful practice - we talk about the nuances.

Are you building a referral system - we dive into this so you can get clarity about why you may need to explore this in your practice.

How inclusive is your wellness business?  Never has this been a more important time to ask yourself this question to ensure ALL people feel welcome in your practice.

How do you navigate boundaries - how can you communicate these boundaries and why is this important for you.

The use of language and how incredibly powerful it is (and without knowing it you may need to tweak HOW you speak and WHAT you say).

Did you consider that the art of listening is also a major component in communication skills that will help you build a reputation and loyal clients.

I've had 30 years in practice with clients and I know all of these make a big difference.

Medical Systems vs Wellness Systems / Paul Cramer, RMT

The way we move is a tool for communication, how we embody our thoughts and emotions. Moving well is an art that takes time and involvement, requires learning and support. Our wellness can be profoundly affected by how well we move and yet practitioners who address movement are not adequately covered by our Medical System. So, perhaps we have conceptualized our medical system on the wrong premise. Instead of only healing us when we are sick, perhaps we should consider greater financial support for keeping us well.
