    W is for Workshops

    W is for Workshops

In this episode, we uncover a few of the reasons why workshops can be innovation and creative goldmines when you're looking to solve a problem, make a decision, or whenever you have a challenge ahead of yourself or your team.

We look at how design thinking workshops are actually more likely to produce iterational innovation, than the transformational innovation that we hear about in the media, before explaining the need for good preparations, the limitations of workshops, and how to get the buy in of everyone involved.

Along the way we touch on the need for diversity and inclusion, and of course we share some exercises and tools you can try for yourself. Prototype party anyone?!

We chat through the Baader Meinhoff Effect and Imposter Syndrome, and help explain some of the science behind why reflection can have such impactful outcomes.

Episode 44 - Apple 1984 - The ad that changed the world

Episode 44 - Apple 1984 - The ad that changed the world

A story not just for the Steve Jobs and Apple fans.

There are stories and then there are stories. Stories of event that changed the course of history in a particular field or for a particular company. This story is one such. Changed it for advertising, for the Super Bowl and for Apple.

What other such momentous events in business come to your mind? I am looking for anecdotes. Like when Andy Grove and Gordon Moore of IBM sacked each other and hired themselves back (that is a story for a future episode).

Unlocking the Value of Rest: Overcoming the Fear of Wasting Time and Avoiding Burnout

Unlocking the Value of Rest: Overcoming the Fear of Wasting Time and Avoiding Burnout

When I invited my husband, Jason, to help coach me through a fear I've been struggling with on air, I never expected the breakthrough moment that unfolded. My fear of wasting time led to creating unnecessary busy work to feel valuable. But as we dug deeper, we discovered that this mindset can lead to burnout and that rest and recovery are essential for our mental and physical well-being.

Join us as we explore the importance of rest and reframing our thoughts around the value we place on our time. Jason compares us to valuable machines that need to recharge and highlights the American tendency to see value in time spent working rather than the quality of the time itself. Find out how we can shift our perspectives and develop a healthier, more productive mindset by listening in on our vulnerable and enlightening conversation.

    Keep Living Lucky.

    I is for Ideation

    I is for Ideation

In this episode we explore ideation - a key element of design thinking - and how it fits into the innovation space.

If you think that ideation is just a brainstorming session, then you need to listen to this episode, because you couldn't be more wrong. This episode could just provide you with the framework you need to discover your next big product/service!

We chat creativity as an adult, how to get over 'blank page syndrome', what to do if you're a recovering perfectionism, and why you should be embracing your weirdness in order to get the best from your business.

With insights from her design engineering past, Tracy shares her struggles with ideation, whilst Lucy explains how a good facilitator will 'warm you up' to be open and willing to express your ideas...before helping you choose your MVP, MVE and wild card to take further.

Implementation is key though, so if you often fail at realising your ideas, then we've included a few tips to help you with that too.

Opportunity Vs. Capability...Close The Gap! ( Living Lucky )

Opportunity Vs. Capability...Close The Gap! ( Living Lucky )

In business and in life, we all want to be successful. There are times however when it feels like we hit a plateau or a ceiling for growth.  We've maximized our capabilities.  In the simplest form, that could look like not being able to recognize available opportunities because our capability to Think Differently" has been maximized.  We become trapped in our "sameness".

There is an endless number of opportunities. The problem is there is a gap between the next opportunity and your current capability.  That Gap is potential.  Increase your capabilities buy learning new skills, getting new ideas, participating in a MasterMind, getting a coach to help ask better questions.

Masterminds are an accelerator for business and life.  They have been around for centuries.  You become the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.

When you don't know what you don't know, what you don't know will keep you broke or make you broke.

In this episode we evaluate the first Design Thinking tool of this podcast season, as we discuss the benefits and potential pitfalls of using 'Five W's & H Questions'.

This tools allows us to gain better understanding of the opinions and wishes of our customers, whilst removing judgement and assumptions. It can get us closer to the 'right' problem statement, and it bring nebulous thoughts together, before drilling down for further clarity.

But should 'why?' really be used in a coaching environment?
And could you fall into the trap of 'Design Thinking theatre'?

Learning To Celebrate Differently As A Caregiver

Learning To Celebrate Differently As A Caregiver

Celebrations look different now as a Caregiver.  Learning and finding new ways to find joy and gratitude takes a bit of time and a mindset shift.

When life is challenging and your loved one is sick,  you sometimes have to accept that things will be different.  But, you don’t have to stop celebrating.  You just have to celebrate them differently.   Meaning making them special, with small moments of joy with simplicity.

As you and I move into the Holidays, my hope is that you think differently about celebrations and your expectations.

You have to come to the reality that you will have to adapt and change.  Your loved one is not doing this on purpose.  Their illness or disease is holding them back.   I remember being so angry and resentful instead of just accepting the reality of this season.   It’s ok to have a low key birthday, anniversary, Christmas, New Years Eve, other holidays, etc.

Some of our best celebrations and memories are just simple ones.  The small moments together.  Those are the ones we remember the most and it brings us the most joy.

    God’s Will For My Life

    God’s Will For My Life
Understanding God’s will for our lives might seem complicated, but it might be because we are not interpreting our involvement correctly. Perhaps we are not supposed to find God’s will because it was never hidden, and our role is just to walk in it faithfully. We can be aware of walking in God’s will through remembering God’s mercies and through resisting conforming to culture in our thoughts and actions. We also see in scripture that we are to give our life entirely to God and choose to think differently that the world. As we study the bible, we see a blueprint for our lives that lays out being in God’s will. We follow him, remain in him, and he will always be with us. When is the last time you really spent time thinking about God’s mercies? Have you decided to give yourself entirely to God? If you’ve got questions, we’d love to connect with you, talk about what it means to live a life inside of God’s will, and pray with you. You can always reach out through burnthickory.com/next.

    Your Thoughts Are Not Facts

    Your Thoughts Are Not Facts

We often think that what we're thinking is truth. That it's the facts. But it's not. The facts are a very different thing and once you know how to separate the facts from what you think about the facts, how you see the world and how you show up in it absolutely changes. And allows you to more confidently create a life you love!

Getting stuck in the "how" – for creative perfectionists

Are you stuck in the "how?" Is doing things perfectly causing you to procrastinate? I see you, creator.

In this episode, I share some thoughts on how we often get stuck in the "how," some thoughts on how to to think about the "how" differently,  a two-step process I used to create my current affirmation for feeling more confidence and joy in my work, and how to anchor it all with a word of the year.

Your time is better spent going inside and exploring what your inner creator wants, needs, what it’s here on this planet to do."  (We’re going to have a podcast all about your inner creator here in a couple of weeks so stay tuned for that!)

    >>"Maps, guides, steps, action plans: These are all designed to help us find a way to traverse the unknown. They are human creations that help us get control over things. Because we want to be responsible, we want to have ownership, we want to think that we can set forth the path WE want to choose.

But what that has done is to force our thoughts outwardly. We’ve gone outside of ourselves, planning and detailing. If we had the perfect plan, we can finally get to where we want to go. Right?"

    >>"It’s been a challenging week here in the U.S.  What has happened at the capital has been a lot for us all to take in. I encourage you this week to find your center. It is okay to stay aware of the things around you but also focus on that which is good and stable for yourself."

#20: Motivational Misfits with David and Yahaira

Today I am talking with David and Yahaira from Motivational MIsfits. They’re on a mission to wash away the programming and conditioning of society and call the people who “go against the grain” - misfits. They interview the “Misfits of the world” and go in depth about their motivation. Start to think differently and disrupt your everyday life to progress in ways only a Misfit can. Enjoy!

Clone Yourself is my online workshop for all my fellow Entreprenuers, Content Creators and Side Hustle Masters…

If you can relate to feeling overwhelmed by the number of projects and tasks you take on..

If you would label yourself as a workaholic, and if you ever wake-up in the middle of the night thinking about WORK…

THEN I want to be THE FIRST TO WELCOME YOU to my new Workshop - CLONE YOURSELF!

In this two-hour training, I’ll walk you through exactly how I have worked with VIRTUAL ASSISTANTS to grow my sales WHILE turning my business into a well-oiled machine which led to working less than 4 hours a day!

The truth is… as leaders in businesses we need to work on our strengths.

Each weakness we have as a business owner is an opportunity to work with Virtual Assistants.
