    More background from Kalden's website:

"Originally from eastern Tibet, Kalden Kho brings a wealth of Tibetan cultural and spiritual background to his sound work, breath work and astrology offerings. He became a monk at the age of 5 and continued his monastic studies until the age of 23, when he completed a three year retreat. He subsequently escaped to India in the winter of 2000 and joined his Tibetan community in exile, under His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. He moved to the U.S. 10 years ago. Journeying across the U.S, he came to meet people from all walks of life. He discovered that people more and more are seeking connection and serenity to offset the stress and isolation of modern lifestyles.

Kalden’s goal is to create a community here that will combine the best of both cultures, Tibetan and American.  To this end, he has dedicated his Sound Work, Breath Work and Tibetan Astrology offerings to introducing America to the warmth and spiritual strength of Traditional Tibetan culture while working to ensure the continued robust existence of Tibetan traditions.  He hopes you will join him in building this community and moving toward a more enlightened, balanced and harmonious path."

    August 30, 2023: Evening Roundup
Uber and taxi drivers have a new protocol that can save riders time waiting for a car and could save everyone some money once congestion pricing goes into effect. Plus, home health care workers protest outside the state Department of Labor's headquarters on Wednesday. Also, a new NYPD rule will allow Mosques to broadcast the Adhan every Friday afternoon and every evening during Ramadan. And finally, WNYC’s Arun Venugopal highlights a weekly event in New York City’s Tibetan community that’s not just about fun but is also part of a worldwide campaign of cultural resistance.

The Spirit of Harriet Tubman Is Back to Guide Us Now - Episode 60

The Spirit of Harriet Tubman Is Back to Guide Us Now - Episode 60

We first became familiar with meditation teacher and visionary leader Spring Washam through Dan Harris’ book, 10% Happier. We then recently heard her on his Ten Happier podcast talking about her new book, The Spirit of Harriet Tubman: Awakening from the Underground and we were blown away. Thankfully Dan connected us –and we had the honor of speaking with Spring on this week’s podcast.

Spring is considered a pioneer in bringing mindfulness-based healing practices to diverse communities. She's one of the founding teachers at the East Bay Meditation Center, located in Oakland, California.

She received extensive training by Jack Kornfield, is a member of the Teachers Council at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Northern California, and has practiced and studied Buddhist philosophy in both Theravada and Tibetan schools of Buddhism since 1999. In addition to being a teacher, she is also a Shamanic practitioner and has studied indigenous healing practices since 2008 which lead her to create Lotus Vine Journeys, an organization that blends indigenous healing practices with Buddhist wisdom in South America.

Spring currently travels and teaches meditation, retreats, workshops, and classes worldwide.

In this week's episode we discuss Spring’s life changing conversations with Harriet Tubman which dive into The Underground Railroad and how Harriet is now the conductor of a new state of consciousness in the world.

Techung on the beauty of traditional Tibetan music (Part 2)

Techung on the beauty of traditional Tibetan music (Part 2)
This is part 2 of our conversation with the renowned Tibetan singer/songwriter Techung. The music of Tibet is as serene and beautiful as its picturesque landscape. If you thought that there is only one kind of music in Tibet, you are absolutely mistaken. Each province in the region has its own style of music. To dwell deeper into this and truly understand the beauty of traditional Tibetan music, Tenzin is in conversation with the award-winning Tibetan singer/songwriter - Techung. Techung is the co-founder of the San Francisco-based Chaksampa Tibetan Dance and Opera Company. Chaksampa made their debut at Carnegie Hall with Philip Glass, REM, Trey Anastasio, Shawn Colvin, and Patti Smith as part of New York Tibet House’s annual Monlam festival concert. Sanskrit Mantras for Restoration of World Dharma

Sanskrit Mantras for Restoration of World Dharma

Welcome to our 108th episode!  108 is a spiritual number in Vedic teachings and has an astrological origin.  108 equals the 12 astrological constellations times nine Vedic planets.  The nine Vedic planets are the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu (North Node of the Moon) and Ketu (South Node of the Moon).  108 is the number of beads or seeds on a mala, the necklace we use to count mantra japa, the repetition of Sanskrit Mantra.

My Mantra Guru, Namadeva Archarya, Thomas Ashley-Farrand, beamed down at me from Vaikunta (high Vedic heaven) and informed the direction of this show. Namadeva left his body in 2010 giving us an amazing Sanskrit legacy, including the stack of mantras featured in this podcast: Sanskrit Mantras for Restoration of World Dharma.

At the time of the taping of this episode Russia invaded Ukraine.  This is an outworn time-line playing out in the 3rd dimensional matrix instigated by an old paradigm oligarchical leader.  Interestingly, the invasion was initiated after the date, 2/22/22 which I dubbed the "Day of the Planetary (Ascended) Masters."  The spiritual light pulsing into the planet is strong.  The 5th dimensional grid of love and unity consciousness is being anchored on the Earth overlaying the 3rd dimensional matrix.   These lower frequency energies guided by the little wills of Men holding on to the past and being blasted out by higher frequencies of light.  Unfortunately, they do have to play out in real time as crisis of war.

There is a planetary war occurring between Venus and Mars during February-March 2022.  Amazing when the planets mirror reality and the archetypal energies are reflected in current events.  Russia is playing the role of archetypal aggressive Mars, bullying it's way into Ukraine. The United States was trying to prevent his with Venusian diplomacy to keep the peace.

What can we do as global citizens when the World seems to be going awry?  We can perform an ancient practice that has been on the planet for thousands of years coming from Ancient India.  Chanting Sanskrit Mantras can mitigate negative outcomes .  Sanskrit is a vibrational language that infuses the chanter and quantum field with the qualities of the mantra such as love, health and peace.

Mantras for Restoration of World Dharma:

    1)  HUNG VAJRA PHAT: (Huungg Va-jra Paaht)
"By the power of will, I invoke the Thunderbolt of my mind."
Tibetan Buddhist mantra invoking Vajrapani, one of the three main protective boddhisattvas. who drives away negative influences

    2) OM VAJRA SATTWA HUNG:  (Ohm Va-jra Sat-vah Huunngg)
"I invoke the supreme purifying power of the universal mind, repository of all accomplishing and irresistible compassion taught by the great Boddhisattvas, Rinpoches and Rishis."
Invokes Vajra Sattwa, the great purifier in Tibetan Buddhism. This mantra purifies karma and brings peace and enlightenment.

    3) OM EIM HRIM KLIM CHAHMUNDAYEI VICCHE NAMAHA
    :
    (Ohm I'm Hreem Kleem Chah-moon-da-yay Vee-chay Na-ma-ha)
"Om and salutations to Her (Chahmundi) who is radiant with power and wisdom. I rejoice over invincibility and victory over evil. "

    4) OM CHANDIKAYEI NAMAHA:  (Ohm Chandi-ka-yay Na-ma-ha)
"Om and salutations to Her who is fierce to the despoilers of the world.

    5) OM VIRAHAYA NAMAHA:  (Ohm Veera-haya Na-ma-ha)
    "Om and salutat

Zindagi Bhar Na Bhulne Wali Paang Ki Mulaqaat

Zindagi Bhar Na Bhulne Wali Paang Ki Mulaqaat

    An Unforgettable Meeting at Pang
A motorcycle rider came from Europe. He inadvertently stumbled upon a race in the high Himalayas, participated in it and met with a gruesome end. A few minutes meeting with the traveller to record his interview ended up being his final words uttered in this lifetime

How the Tibetan Book of the Dead resonates with the living, plus the global ethics of Hans Küng

How the Tibetan Book of the Dead resonates with the living, plus the global ethics of Hans Küng

The Tibetan Book of the Dead is the most famous Buddhist text in the West, selling more than a million copies since the first English version was published in the 1920s. But why does the book of the dead resonate so deeply with the living? And, in our diverse and often divided world, can different faiths seek peace together? Catholic priest, writer and theologian, Hans Kung passed away recently. We revisit his ideas.

    Sanskrit Mantras For Protection

    Sanskrit Mantras For Protection

In this episode, Parashakti Jill Jardine, Sanskrit Mantra instructor, shares Sanskrit mantras for protection.  Parashakti Jill was initiated and certified in Sanskrit mantras by Thomas Ashley-Farrand, "Namadeva Archarya." Ashley-Farrand is the author of well-known books in English on Sanskrit mantras including, Healing Mantras, Shakti Mantras and Chakra Mantras.
Namadeva's Sanskrit mantra  lineage was introduced to the United States during the 1960's by Sat Guru Sant Keshavadas, and Guru Rama Mata.  Their son, Sri Muralidhar Pai, previous guest on Cosmic Scene, teaches mantras and is a world renown tabla musician.

During these precarious times, these protective mantras come in handy to feel safe and secure, and release anxiety. Sanskrit Mantras are sacred sound formulas from ancient Vedic, Puranic, and Tantric texts.  They are powerful, they are formidable and they work!

Stay tuned to chant the mantras with Jill and feel the powerful Shakti!

For the past decades, the internet has been exploding with techniques and tools to help one become "more spiritual," or to "open your 3rd eye," or connect with your Spirit Guides, etc.  However, we must approach this psychic "free-for-all" with discrimination and protection.

Spiritual protection is taken quite seriously by Eastern spiritual traditions and true esoteric teachings such as in Tibetan Buddhist and Tantric teachings.  Thus these traditions have many techniques and practices to help seekers stay protected while on the spiritual or esoteric path.

The Ganesha or Ganapati principle is discussed in an earlier episode on Cosmic Scene, "Introduction to Sanskrit mantras - Mantras to remove obstacles."

    Jill share's two Ganesha/Ganapati mantras to remove obstacles for protection;
    1)  OM UCCHISTA GANAPATAYEI NAMAHA:
(For protection, to destroy negativity, hatred, inner or outer enemies, demonic ego).

    2) OM SHAKTI GANAPATAYEI NAMAHA:
(To cast away evil spirits from a haunted house or from the body or mind of a person or yourself)

Jill also shares a Shiva Mantra and two mantras saluting the Divine Feminine for protection:

    3) OM NAMAH SHIVAYA:
(Invokes the Shiva principle, to cast away demons, negativity and bad energies)

    4) OM DUM DURGAYEI NAMAHA:
("Salutations to She who is beautiful to the seeker of truth, and terrible to those who would injure devotees of truth - Salutations to Durga, kindly protect me")

    5) OM EIM HRIM KLIM CHAMUNDAYEI VICCHE NAMAHA:
("Om and Salutations to She who is radiant with power and wisdom." For proactive protection, destruction of negative forces or entities.)

    6) NARASIMHA TA VA DA SO HUM:
(Invokes Narasimha, the half man, lion-headed incarnation of Vishnu, in his inconquerable aspect."

Moena de Jong is an Amsterdam-based yoga teacher who has studied a variety of yoga traditions and lineages, ranging from Hatha to Vinyasa to Jivamukti. I invited her to the YAY!YOGA podcast as I visit her classes whenever I can and always leave feeling enriched and inspired by the way she structures her classes with music, dharma talks, philosophy, pranayama and asanas. Her classes are a complete package of nutrients for the body, mind and soul.
