Gifted and Distractible: Understanding, Supporting & Advocating for your Twice Exceptional (inner ) Child! Meet Julie Skolnick

Feeling misunderstood or out of place can be a common experience for twice-exceptional (2e) individuals. This episode of Gifted Unleashed welcomes Julie Skolnick, author of "Gifted and Distractible," to shed light on the unique challenges faced by this remarkable group. Driven by self-love and understanding, Julie navigates us through the wide spectrum of conditions under the 2e umbrella and the importance of focusing on the strengths of these individuals.

Through an enriching conversation, we delve into the fascinating concept of 'masking', a coping mechanism often adopted by 2e individuals. Julie generously shares her "cycle for success" and provides a checklist that can help you find professionals who truly understand and support 2e individuals. We also discuss her much-anticipated book dedicated to adults in the 2e community, a beacon of hope and understanding for many.

Julie's passion for supporting and advocating for 2e individuals is further reflected in her website, withunderstandingcomescalm.com, offering free resources and a membership program for 2e adults. She also shares her upcoming course for parents, a priceless resource for those seeking guidance. As we round off our discussion, Julie emphasizes the importance of validating effort over outcomes or external motivation, a mantra not only for 2e individuals but applicable to all. 105: Moms and Baseball Burnout

Diana and Stephanie sit down to update a bit about what our summer baseball season looked like and try to examine where the newfound feeling of baseball burnout is coming from.

“Gentleman Jack” and Too Muchness feat. Rachel Vorona Cote

“Gentleman Jack” and Too Muchness feat. Rachel Vorona Cote

For this episode, I’m joined by Rachel Vorona Cote (@RVoronaCote), author of the excellent book Too Much: How Victorian Constraints Still Bind Women Today to talk about the concept of “too muchness” (or, how social norms and expectations constrain women’s bodies, minds, and sexualities). Specifically, we looked at too muchness and the BBC series on HBO Gentleman Jack, a series based on the diaries of Anne Lister, aka “the first modern lesbian" who lived from 1791 to 1840. We talked about too muchness and: Anne Lister’s gender and sexuality, women’s mental health and the threat of institutionalization, and lots more. It was GREAT.

    42. Do You Feel Like You're Not Enough or Too Much?

Do you ever feel like you're not enough or like you're too much?

I want to talk about this today because I recently got a question from a beautiful woman and I helped her find some answers but I thought, I'm going to speak to this because this was an issue in our relationship and even just in my life. This issue would play out in my relationship and I see it with couples all the time.

Episode 18: Are There Too Many Comic Book Movies?
WATCH: https://youtu.be/0G_NbMP0A9o Don't hit send on that angry comment just yet! Comic book movies are great! We love them. But maybe there's a problem when Morbius, a movie both fans and critics hated, was the only successful movie over the weekend. Why are audiences only watching comic book movies? Why are studios refusing to make anything else? Don't worry, you can trust the Professional Appreciators to give you a fair and nuanced breakdown on one of the interenet's most contested debates.

Breaking Away from Pushing the River

Breaking Away from Pushing the River

This is the last episode of 2021 before some time away to clarify the next steps for the podcast and book writing. While all of these projects have been exciting, Jessica is coming clean about how when we push the river, we run the risk of that excitement starting to feel like too much, too fast, and too soon.

When we want things to turn out a certain way (and who doesn't?!), we can find ourselves pushing for a particular outcome instead of letting ourselves float down the river's current and letting things unfold naturally. Being available for that natural unfolding informs our bodies of what feels good and what doesn't.  But if we're pushing too hard to get it the way we want it,  we inadvertently muddy the waters and be rendered unable to get clarity on the way forward.

Jessica also talks about the need for readiness as we embark on new journeys and the need to titrate the amount, the speed, and the intensity of our experiences to get the most success (in our own eyes) from our endeavors.

    E22: Overwhelm

    E22: Overwhelm

Do you feel like you are drowning?

The continued undercurrent of uncertainty due to the pandemic and other global problems, combined with internal drivers and external stressors can have us feeling like we can't quite get our heads above water.

When this happens we need to find a way to buoy ourselves otherwise the feeling of being under pressure can keep pulling us under.

In this episode, burnout and wellbeing experts Jayne Morris and Dylan Cox discuss the subtle signs of overwhelm and how to noticing them, so that instead of overriding you can make  important daily adjustments.

Small incremental changes made on a daily basis not only help us to stay afloat, but ultimately to keep swimming and even swim with ease, not matter what's going on around us.

Gay Pride VS Oh No You Didn't!

It's Pride 2021!!!!   We all love watching our gay pride parades, but do some of them contain content that goes a little too far?   Are we hurting ourselves with displays of sexual acts and other overt sexual behavior?  Our special guest and LGBTQ+ ally, Deejay George Jett, discusses these scenarios with Mike... and then show goes completely South.   We may have just answered our own question while taping this broadcast.

    Buona visione!
