Behind-the-Scenes at TIFF with Steven Spielberg & the Cast of The Fabelmans

Behind-the-Scenes at TIFF with Steven Spielberg & the Cast of The Fabelmans

The Fabelmans is a 2022 American coming-of-age drama film directed by Steven Spielberg, who co-wrote and co-produced it with Tony Kushner. The film is a semi-autobiographical story loosely based on Spielberg's adolescence and first years as a filmmaker, told through an original story of the fictional Sammy Fabelman, a young aspiring filmmaker who explores how the power of films can help him see the truth about his dysfunctional family and those around him. It stars Gabriel LaBelle as Sammy, alongside Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, and Judd Hirsch in supporting roles.

The Fabelmans had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2022, where it won the People's Choice Award. The film received widespread critical acclaim for the performances of the cast, Spielberg's direction, the screenplay, cinematography, and John Williams' musical score. It was named one of the top ten films of 2022 by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute.

The film received five nominations at the 80th Golden Globe Awards in 2023, winning Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director for Spielberg. It also received 11 nominations at the 28th Critics' Choice Awards, including Best Picture, winning Best Young Performer for LaBelle.

In this episode, I take you behind-the-scenes with Steven Spielberg and the cast at the Fabelmans at its TIFF premiere, where even more about Steven’s life & family, beginnings as a filmmaker, and casting decisions, are revealed.

All The Things You Missed From The Emmys Red Carpet

All The Things You Missed From The Emmys Red Carpet

    On the show today…

The prestigious Toronto International Film Festival has been taking place over the last few days and while most stars have been having a fancy time on the red carpet, Anna Kendrick had to be rescued by a team of firefighters.

And the Emmys are taking place today, so we’ve rounded up our favourite red carpet looks from the night, along with a few questionable choices and some gowns that have an interesting backstory.

Plus, Kris Jenner recently underwent a lie detector test to prove once and for all that she did not release her daughter Kim Kardashian’s sex tape. Now Ray J, who appeared in the tape with Kim, has released “evidence” that he says proves it was all an orchestrated secret move by the Kardashian family. But we’re seeing a different side to this new Kim Kardashian takedown.

    THE END BITS

Episode 178: 'Rubikon' (2022)/'Let the Corpses Tan' (2017)

Episode 178: 'Rubikon' (2022)/'Let the Corpses Tan' (2017)

This week we decided to go with a straightforward episode. We have a little bit of movie news and we talk about two movies. And we finally make a decision about our long running giveaway. In just two weeks, we will announce the winner of original horror art, a t-shirt from Public House 28 Brewery, and a number of horror movies.

We know we just spoke about Tom Cruise a few weeks back and yes, that conversation went on for longer than it needed to. But how could we ignore that Top Gun: Maverick just made over $1 billion? We also talk about the star quality of Cruise and how there is no modern comparison.

We love madcap whounits. We  drove a quote from Knives Out into the ground and dreamed of making a stage production of 1985's Clue. Recent years have seen a return of these types of movies and we talk about the trailer from the latest. See How They Run has a cast that includes Saoirse Ronan, Adrian Brody, and Sam Rockwell in a murder mystery set around a  West End play.

Rubikon starts off like many other science fiction movies. It is set in the future, pollution has covered the globe, and corporation run everything. It also looks great. Few indie sci-fi movies look near as good as it. What drives the film are its characters and the story. We talk about a pretty straightforward film that still manages to be confusing.

Early on, it seems like Let the Corpses Tan is content to concentrate on an amazing title and its stylish look. Part Weird West, part heist movie, part WTF, the film will not be for everyone. It is easily one of the most memorable things we have seen this year, and not always for the best reason. We the meaning of nude women covered in gold, a day long violent shootout, and how to make people care for characters that are only given a little bit of time.
