Enjoy Stuff: Frozen Concentrated Orange Juice

Jovial Jay and Shua are Trading Places! It's the 40th anniversary of a classic comedy starring Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy that tells the story of social class, stock markets, and greed. It's beef jerky time on Enjoy Stuff!

In 1983 John Landis created a movie that became more popular than just about anyone thought was possible. It lit fire to the box office and propelled Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy, and Jamie Lee Curtis to stardom. This is Trading Places.

    What we’re Enjoying

Jay finally got around to watching the blockbuster hit Barbie. He was impressed with the story, performances, and messages of the whole thing. Shua likes the new AppleTV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. It’s an interesting take on the Monsterverse which features Wyatt and Kurt Russell playing the same character in different time periods.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay looks back at the 2000 movie featuring yet another story set on Mars, Red Planet. Though it was very en Vogue to feature our nearest planetary neighbor back then, this one may not have entirely hit the mark. Check out his article to see why. He has also been updating locations from Marvel TV and movies, including the Loki series. Play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. Plus, you can tune in to  SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua break down each episode of the Loki series and more.

    Enjoy Movies!

Louis Winthorpe III (Dan Aykroyd) is not the nicest of rich white guys. (Who woulda thunk?) That’s when two other not very nice dudes (or is that Dukes?) decide to make a bet to find out if he is a product of nature or nurture. They destroy his life and put con man Billy Ray Valentine (Eddie Murphy) in his place. But things turn around when both men discover the bet. They enlist Louis’s new, prostitute friend Ophelia (Jamie Lee Curtis) and his faithful butler Coleman (Denholm Elliot). It’s a class struggle with Trading Places.

Plus, we pick a few commodities and see what kind of money we would make if we’d held on to them for 40 years.

What’s your Trading Places experience? How much have you made on the stock market? The Onslaught of Holiday Movies

    The Onslaught of Holiday Movies

    Movie Meltdown - Episode 567

Grab yourself some cocoa and join us for a roundabout discussion of holiday movies. From the mainstream staples to the insane amount of recent independent entries - to some of the forgotten Christmas "classics".

And while we decide just who deserves to be on the naughty list, we also mention… Hawkeye, Kurt Russell, a rag-tag band of misfits, Buzz’s parenting skills, Avengers #168, Last Action Hero, Lifetime, Malcolm McDowell, Hallmark, the melting stairs, Netflix, Whitney Houston, swap the white people out, the production value is pretty low… the story is pretty thin, Bill Murray affection, posters in movie theaters, the naughty list, Vanessa Hudgens, cold pizza and cleaning your guns, we need more Batmans, John Lithgow, Cousin Eddie, that beanie would have been melted into his skull, Michael Keaton, Lucky the pizza dog, weird sequels, creme-filled wafers, the pre-adolescent Sophie's Choice, they did that one in 3D, wrestlers at Christmas, a classic Toys R Us commercial, it’s more of a documentary, Kate Bishop and very pepperminty.

“Where are the Martin Scorseses and Ridley Scotts complaining about Christmas movies on Lifetime and Hallmark?!”

    Trading Places (1983)

    Trading Places (1983)

Canadian listeners Denis and Jillian commissioned this year's Shat Christmas comedy, "Trading Places," explaining that it's been their holiday comfort movie for years.

Upon viewing, we're not sure it's a Christmas movie, or a comedy, or particularly comforting. But Trading Places made some bold social statements, helped elevate Eddie Murphy to one of the hottest names in Hollywood and got Jamie Lee Curtis topless.

Join the Shat Crew on this holiday romp as we discuss power suits, the difference between "True Lies" and "The Full Monty," frozen orange juice concentrate, stolen valor, and the horrible disguises of '80s cinema.
