Helping Transitioning Veterans – Giovanni Berdejo
Giovanni Berdejo served 8 years in the US Army as a Patient Administration Specialist. He served 3 tours overseas including Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division. His transition out of the military hit a few landmines which we will get into. Gio continues a life of service through workforce development, the arts and Veteran advocacy. In his professional capacity, Gio works as the Program Coordinator for Professional Development at Cal State Fullerton’s Veteran Resource Center.

VOICES: Veteran Storytelling Project, a program of the Arts OC nonprofit, that gives Veterans a space to tell their stories of military service, transition and perseverance. In his own personal work, Gio brings to light the difficulties and struggles many Veterans face, post war in his book, One Angry Veteran. Everyone has those AHA moments or events that change our lives for better or worse. These life altering events occur in every aspect of our professional and personal lives.
Try as we may, it is impossible to completely separate the events in our personal life from our professional life. Believe me, I tried and failed miserably.
Life altering events present us with opportunities to seize the moment and make difference in our own life and the lives of our loved ones. They also can be a fork in the road where we can fall apart or pick up the pieces and start moving forward toward better times and better people.
