    Rwanda Bill: the controversy explained

    Rwanda Bill: the controversy explained

After two years of legal disputes and political debate, Parliament has approved the government's Rwanda bill to send asylum seekers from the UK to be processed in east Africa. The question now: when will the first plane to Kigali depart? And will this be a political win for Rishi Sunak who says he wants to 'stop the boats'?

The Week... Rishi takes on The Plot

The Week... Rishi takes on The Plot
Two of Westminster's best-connected journalists, Sky News' Sam Coates and Politico's Jack Blanchard, guide us through their predictions of how British politics will play out over the next seven days.

This week, the prime minister will be railing against the small group of ex-ministers and special advisers who are plotting to bring him down before the election. The campaign to oust Rishi Sunak has been bubbling below the surface since before Christmas, but Jack and Sam predict the movement to dominate the week ahead in Westminster.

And, the Conservatives are not the only party with pre-election problems. Latest polls suggest the SNP will be trumped by Scottish Labour at the general election and will lose control of Holyrood in 2026. Jack and Sam discuss how Nicola Sturgeon will fare at her second appearance at the COVID inquiry this week.

Plus, as Labour puts out its "party of stability" message again this week - with announcements on financial service and life sciences - Jack and Sam run through the party's own psychodramas.

Email with your thoughts and rate how their predictions play out: jackandsam@sky.uk or jackandsam@politico.co.uk

Can Nikki Haley stop Donald Trump?

Can Nikki Haley stop Donald Trump?

Chris Christie - the only Republican candidate to publically call out Trump’s flaws - has pulled out of the presidential race. Does his departure open the door to Nikki Haley - to beat Trump to the Republican nomination?

If she wins the New Hampshire primary in ten days time then all bets are off. Last night saw a cantankerous debate between the two candidates left in the race - whilst Trump was AWOL once again.

Is this the last chance Republicans have to turn the race around?

Also, who is Stephen Bradshaw, what did he do, and why has he become the latest villain in the post office scandal?

Has Labour's rebellion weakened Keir Starmer?

Has Labour's rebellion weakened Keir Starmer?

Jess Philips - one of the 8 frontbenchers who voted against the Labour whip last night - gives her first interview to us since resigning last night from her position as Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding- to 'vote with her constituents and her heart'.

Will this damage party morale and weaken Keir Starmer?

Or will it show a different side to the politics of disagreement?

Also, Rishi Sunak is undaunted by yesterday's excoriating judgmenet from the Supreme Court, making his Rwanda plan unlawful. He's got a new plan though don't worry! But will it actually get off (quite literally) the ground?

We unpack whether our politicians are more camera conscious ever as they chase online moments. Will building more homes make house prices cheaper?

Will building more homes make house prices cheaper?

We have a housing crisis. That’s the message, loud and clear, and it was reiterated by the Prime Minister this week.

What’s the answer? Build more homes.

Or is it? Because once you start digging into the subject, this housing crisis is a pretty ill-defined problem - and it’s not clear that a lack of homes is causing the problem of too high house prices.

Many people suspect that actually it’s too much cheap money that made homes so expensive.

On this week’s podcast episode, Simon Lambert, Lee Boyce and Georgie Frost get stuck into the housing crisis. They look at what the problem is meant to be, what made homes so expensive, what the plans are to solve the issue, and whether building more homes will make house prices cheaper.

And there’s even a defence of the dreaded Nimby in there.

Also on this week’s show we discuss why we are calling for action on the state pension top-up fiasco, how your driving licence might get Brexited, and the jobs that desperately need more people.

And finally, what should you do in an interview when dealt tricky questions, such as ‘tell me about yourself’.

Or even, ‘what fruit are you?’
