Coach Prime In His Prime - A Look Back

Coach Prime In His Prime - A Look Back

Watching Deion Sanders coach football has been a treat, and to an entirely new generation, his playing days might seem like ancient history. As someone who covered him in college and in his Super Bowl appearances for both San Francisco and Dallas, it's been amazing to see his evolution. I later worked closely with him when he hosted The New American Sportsman on ESPN and he was always a pro's pro.

Recently, I came across a gem of a show featuring the marvelous play-by-play game calling of one of my mentors, Tony Roberts, who recently passed away. We worked together for Mutual and later Westwood One Networks. The show also includes some 'Prime Time' comments from an interview I did with Deion from Miami before the Big Game. It's incredible how much life has changed since then, but it's always great to look back and remember the legends.

Zach Wilson outplays Mahomes in loss; Deion Sanders, Colorado vs USC; Jrue Holiday traded to Celtics | Brother From Another

Holley and Smith discuss Bill Belichick’s legacy after the Patriots blowout loss to the Dallas Cowboys. They also react to Zach Wilson’s surprising performance on Sunday Night Football vs the Kansas City Chiefs. Mike Hill joins the show to discuss USC vs Colorado, the Jets on SNF, rookie quarterbacks CJ Stroud and Bryce Young, and Jimmy Butler’s new look and his emotional state at NBA Media Day. The Michaels discuss Jrue Holiday’s trade to the Celtics. Michael Holley bids farewell to Tim Wakefield.

FULL SHOW | The Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast; Go Through Life Better; Deion Sanders and University of Colorado Wins Again; Tiffany Haddish Goes After Gary; Jeezy Files for Divorce After Two Years; & Dante Bowe Joins The RSMS Crew

It is Monday on The Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast, and Rickey Smiley and the rest of the crew is here to start your week off right. In this episode, Rickey and The RSMS crew are discussing Coach Deion Sanders and his University of Colorado football team beating in-state rival Colorado State University. This was after the head coach of Colorado State University made comments about being raised by his mother to take off his sunglasses and hat when talking to people. Normally Gary With the Tea has the tea, but today he is part of the tea. Gary reported that Tiffany Haddish said she has an animal that can sniff out STDs in men and Gary said maybe that is why Common is no longer around. Tiffany responded to Gary on Twitter saying she has not been with Common for two years now, so leave it alone. Rapper/entrepreneur Jeezy, has filed for divorce from his wife of two years, Jeannie Mai. Jeannie and Jeezy share a daughter, who Jeezy is seeking joint custody for. And singer, songwriter, Dante Bowe joins The RSMS Crew to talk about new music and no longer being with Maverick City Music. AND MUCH MORE FUNNY!!!

Shifting Sand, Shifting Culture: How George McJunkin Blazed a Trail that Changed Our Understanding of Human History

Shifting Sand, Shifting Culture: How George McJunkin Blazed a Trail that Changed Our Understanding of Human History

George McJunkin, a self-taught African-American cowboy from Folsom, New Mexico, became a local hero and a pioneer of American Archaeology. We trace George's incredible journey, from escaping Night Riders in Texas to his profound influence as a cowboy to his incredible ability to teach himself two languages. Despite facing racial prejudice, George was a renowned figure in New Mexico, and his heroism during a blizzard etched his name in the annals of cowboy folklore. We also explore George's other talents: his flair for music, his love for history, and his pivotal role in the aftermath of the Folsom flood.

The remarkable archaeological discovery he made while assessing flood damage - a discovery significant enough to reshape our understanding of North American history- took many years for  to be acknowledged, George's story echoes throughout time, a testament to his enduring legacy. Listen to how, decades later, New Mexico archaeologist Frank Hibbins finally gave George the recognition he deserved for his monumental discovery. This tale of a cowboy turned amateur archaeologist is one you don't want to miss.

And Teachers, as Promised, here is a complete lesson plan to cover 2-3 days of your class in New Mexico history, written by our co-host Drew for the New Mexico Public Education Departments Social Studies Instructional Scope and Sequence.

Homeownership and understanding real estate is a foundational tenet in building wealth. The market is very dynamic at the moment, with interest rates fluctuating and home prices on the move. Everyone I meet from young people starting out looking for their first home, to mid-career professionals looking for a vacation home, and late-career professionals considering downsizing or moving to their retirement destination…seems to be talking about real estate. I could not wait to have this conversation with JP and hear his insights on this market and advice for those ready to make "the leap".  I know you will learn something new in this conversation.

    Show Notes:

4:00 – Bob asks JP to tell us what is happening in the American real estate and mortgage markets. JP unpacks this for the listeners who may be in the process of making a big decision. JP begins by discussing the high-interest rate and lack of affordability.

7:30 – JP encourages those in the market to get in now. He gives his housing market predictions and forecasts.

12:30 – JP discusses his belief in the significance of real estate for the American family building wealth. Quote– “When is the best time to plant a tree? 20 years ago. When is the next best time? Now.”

14:40 – Bob asks JP’s advice for newlywed young adults who are looking to buy their first home. Bob then asks JP what the wise things young adults can be doing now in preparation for buying their first home.

22:30 – JP advises how to improve your credit score in preparation for purchasing a home.

25:30 – JP gives his advice to people in mid-career who are looking for a vacation home.

28:00 – JP gives his thoughts on Airbnb vs. Vrbo

29:40 – Bob asks JP what those near retiring are asking and things they need to be doing in advance to prepare.

33:30 – JP talks about American homeowners tapping into equity to pay bills and pay down debt and gives his insight on the best ways.

37:30 – Bob touches on JP’s background and asks what drew him to the real estate industry from serving in the Air Force. JP gives how he applies his discipline and learnings from the military in his real estate and financing.

42:00 – Bob and JP reminisce on their favorite planes that they flew in the military and their favorite aspects of being in the Air Force.

50:00 – Bob and JP share how their military backgrounds shaped the way they view the significance of teamwork and how they take that into their respective careers.

52:20 – Bob asks JP how the military core values of integrity, honesty, and building trust show up in his career now. Quote– “I really do think that I am a bit of a breath of fresh air for people to know that I am working to figure out what is in their best interest.”

53:50 – JP tells us what people should be looking for to ensure that they get someone who is honest and forthcoming when looking for a mortgage advisor.

55:40 – AI is changing every industry. JP shares how he views AI impacting his industry and jobs within the industry. Quote– “I do love the ability to leverage AI, but it definitely is not perfect.”

57:40 – Bob asks JP what books he is currently reading to continue learning and growing.

Book recommendations: “Meditations” by Marcus Aurelius, Ryan Holiday’s books, “Outlive” by Peter Attia

Episode 8 American College Campus Part 2

Episode 8 American College Campus Part 2

Notes for episodes 7 and 8
    American College and University Campus

In episodes 7 and 8, we look at the history of the American college and university campus from the commencement of British American settlement through modern times. The open and public spaces of campuses, as well as the design of buildings and overall layouts, reflect societal trends, philosophies, and prejudices as much as the changing purpose of higher education itself. We explore starting with the first colleges, their charters and founding as institutions meant to educate upper class white men through the post World War II period that has seen a democratization of higher education.

Our moments in equity for these two episodes look at how college establishment and funding were intimately connected to the slave trade, slave labor, and the profits from the sale of slaves in the British colonies and in the pre-Civil War United States.

What Animal Is A Morrulla? | Celebs Related By Marriage That Surprised Us!

    Welcome to our 50th episode!

Y'all -- it's December and we, like most, are trying to do *all the things.* So, since we're busy and you're busy, we thought we'd keep it light and fun this week!

Caitlin got sucked into a Buzzfeed vortex and found this article about celebs that are related to one another and just HAD to share it with Jenny (and you, our listeners!). You probably already knew that Priyanka Chopra and Sophie Turner are sisters-in-law (thanks to the Jonas Brothers), but did you know that Mark Ronson is related to Meryl Streep? And that Lily Collins is related to Ted Danson? Yep!

Listen for details on these and more, and of course, we've got a hilarious circle time chat to kick off the fun.

Many thanks to Lauren Yapalater, Celebrity Editor at BuzzFeed, for her work creating this article. You can find it here.

Read the blog post for this episode here

Happy Holidays to all our listeners and friends -- we hope that your December is filled with love and joy.
