The Transformed Life | The Disciples’ Upper Room Feast

The Transformed Life | The Disciples’ Upper Room Feast
Today, we study scripture and look at feasts in the bible, specifically at the upper room feast, and the impact on the lives of the disciples as they at face-to-face with Jesus. We see that the first feast was not just about eating a meal together, but in picking a team. God provides a way for life, but it requires a sacrifice and an active faith. All of the struggles of this world are temporary because we will be wholly, joyfully, and eternally united with Jesus. Are you trusting in Jesus with life’s struggles? Have you given your life to Jesus as a sacrifice? Do you know that your eternity is provided for because of Jesus’ redemption of your sin? As always, if you’ve got questions or need prayer, we’d love to connect with you. You can take the next step in your faith journey by visiting – burnthickory.com/next

Gospel of John #58: Overview of John's Gospel - final episode

Gospel of John #58: Overview of John's Gospel - final episode
From the incredible 18 verse prologue, which presents that the Logos, the Word, has become flesh. This Word is God in person, and all who would believe in this Word would become children of God. This Word is Jesus, who begins His ministry by being baptized by John the Baptist, calls disciples, and goes about the work of ministry, will signs and wonders following. Also in John are the seven I Am sayings. The last half of the Gospel is devoted to the last week of Jesus’ ministry, which includes long teaching sessions in the Upper Room in Jerusalem, the beautiful prayer in the Garden, the betrayal, arrest, conviction, crucifixion, and resurrection. The Gospel closes out with a breakfast at the Sea of Tiberius, and a conversation with Peter.

Gospel of John #56: John 20:19–33, Jesus Appears to the Disciples +

Gospel of John #56: John 20:19–33, Jesus Appears to the Disciples +
The evening of the resurrection, Jesus suddenly appears to the disciples; Thomas is not there, but Luke tells us others are also present. He announces: “Peace be with you.” He then displayed His wounds, hands and side, to His followers so that they know it is really Him and that He is right there present. Thomas is not there but upon being told of the events announcing he will not believe until he sees for himself. One week later he gets that chance and expresses that indeed Jesus is his Lord and God. Then the writer, John, gives us a summary of his Gospel and makes it clear he wrote it that others might also believe in the risen Christ.

Gospel of John #49: John 17, The High Priestly Prayer

Gospel of John #49: John 17, The High Priestly Prayer
The entire chapter is Jesus’ prayer, said somewhere along the road to the Garden of Gethsemane or while yet in the Upper Room, which is overheard by His disciples. To begin, Jesus lifts up His eyes toward heaven, and most think He did so while standing. The focus of His prayer is that the Father would glorify Him, that is, bring Him once again into His presence as He had been prior to the incarnation. Part of the prayer is that His followers would be in unity, would be one. Jesus prays that the disciples will be with Him, and to see His glory that was His before the foundation of the world.

Jesus: The Way, The Truth, and The Life - Audio

Jesus: The Way, The Truth, and The Life - Audio
Jesus spends quality time with His disciples in the Upper Room just before he is arrested and crucified. They didn't fully understand but were concerned they were losing their teacher. Predicting His arrest, Jesus said all would desert him, but the brash Peter said he wouldn't. Jesus told them not to worry but to put their trust in Him. When He goes he will prepare a place for them and then return and take them to Himself. Where Peter is compulsive and brash, Thomas is always the doubter. He wants to know how they will get to this place. Jesus replies that He is the way, the truth and the life.
