After six years as head football coach of University of Virginia, Coach Bronco Mendenhall resigned his post at the end of the 2021 season. Een onderwerp wat mij de afgelopen periode enorm heeft bezig gehouden is hoe mensen tegen elkaar te keer kunnen gaan als ze van mening verschillen. Of het nou gaat om vaccinaties, corona-maatregelen, milieu-activisme of zwarte piet. Mensen ventileren ongezouten hun mening en lijken meer en meer verwijderd te raken van elkaar. Zelfs in gezinnen of relaties kan het tot een breuk komen en is de verbinding soms ver te zoeken.

Haptonomie gaat juist over verbinding. Een van de grondbeginselen van haptotherapie is dat betekenisvolle relaties van essentieel belang zijn voor iemands welzijn. Maar hoe hou je eigenlijk de verbinding met je medemens als hij of zij ergens totaal anders over denkt? Kun je de mens achter de mening nog zien als het gaat om een onderwerp wat jou persoonlijk erg raakt? Hoe voorkom je dat er een kloof ontstaat? Of als de kloof er al is, hoe overbrug je die?

In deze aflevering kijk ik samen met zowel Monique van Bilderbeek (directeur Instituut voor Toegepaste Haptonomie) als collega Anja de Graaff (haptotherapeut in Amsterdam) naar wat er gebeurt als zo'n kloof toch ontstaat en hoe je daar mee om zou kunnen gaan.

Het doel van deze aflevering is niet zozeer het vinden van oplossingen want daar is het onderwerp misschien wel veel  te ingewikkeld  voor.. Maar we hebben wel geprobeerd vanuit de haptonomie wat meer grip te krijgen op de dynamieken bij meningsverschillen en hoe je dan toch kan zoeken naar meer verbinding. Wie weet nodigt ons onderzoek anderen uit eens samen in gesprek te gaan hierover!
