    The Triumphal Entry - Audio

    The Triumphal Entry - Audio
“When I’m stuck in sermon prep, have I asked the question?” The question being, “How does this remind me of Jesus?” I couldn’t get over the image of a procession into Jerusalem. Where have I seen that before? Jesus’ Triumphal Entry of course. The biggest difference about David’s Triumphal entry into Jerusalem, and Jesus’ so many years later…? Is What David accomplishes when he comes to the tabernacle, reminds us of what Jesus does in His Temple. Although Jesus went to the Temple in Jerusalem and hung the proverbial out of order sign on the door, He still has a Temple, where like David, Jesus is giving bread for the masses.

    Understanding the Holiness of God

    Understanding the Holiness of God
We witness David transporting the Ark of the Lord in 2 Samuel 6, and as they journey, a man named Uzzah reaches out to grab the Ark to save it from falling to the ground. As a result, God struck Uzzah and killed him. What follows are some of the most interesting Scriptures in the Bible. Why would God punish Uzzah for trying to do what appears to be a good and noble thing? Even David shows his anger at God for killing Uzzah. We've all undoubtedly shaken our fists at God when he does things that don't make sense to us. In order to understand this story, we must first understand the true holiness of God and our deep sinfulness. We do not understand God's judgment because we do not comprehend the wickedness of our sinfulness. In the presence of the Lord, we see the great holiness of God and the great joy of His people. David and The Ark [David 06]

David and The Ark [David 06]

    2 Samuel 6: 1-15 // Tom Nelson

Where is lasting joy found? It is not found in managing God, lasting joy is found in the presence of God. Without God, there is no lasting joy. C.S. Lewis thought a lot about joy. One of his interesting insights I think he had about joy was the importance of proximity when it comes to experiencing joy. “If you want to get warm you must stand near the fire: if you want to be wet you must get into the water. If you want joy, power, peace, eternal life, you must get close to, or even into, the thing that has them.” Lewis is right, proximity matters, and so does presence. Joy flows in and through a close relationship with God himself. Without him, there is no lasting joy. Being yoked with Jesus leads us to a more attentive life, one that enjoys the presence of God and experiences lasting joy. He wants to show us the way. Will you trust him?

Bringing the Ark Home - The Books of 2 Samuel & 1 Chronicles

Bringing the Ark Home - The Books of 2 Samuel & 1 Chronicles

In this Bible Story, we learn about David returning the Ark of the Covenant home to the people of Israel. However the revelry was quickly replaced by fear as Uzzah was struck down when he touched the ark. When the ark finally returned to Israel, David leaped for joy and danced among the people. He took off his kingly robes, which angers his wife. However David would not be embarrassed to show his love for God. This story is inspired by 2 Samuel 6 & 1 Chronicles 13, 15-17. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.

Today's Bible verse is 2 Samuel 6:16 from the King James Version.

Episode 99: With the battles of the Philistines now won, David sought to bring the Ark of the Covenant to Judah. Uzzah and Ahio carried the Ark on an ox-driven cart. But as they were on their way, the cart hit a bump and the Ark almost fell. Uzzah instinctively reached out to catch it, but this was not for him to do and so he died. David, furious and confused, kept the Ark at the home of Obed-Edom for three months. Then David sought again to move the Ark to Jerusalem, this time seeking God and offering sacrifices as he went. As the Ark entered the gates, all of Israel celebrated with loud shouts and dancing! All except Michal.

God’s Presence: A Fire That Consumes and Comforts (2 Samuel 6)

God’s Presence: A Fire That Consumes and Comforts (2 Samuel 6)

In 2 Samuel 6, God's Presence is brought into the center of Israelite life once again, as King David brings the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem.  It's a great day of celebration and praise... and tragedy.  The God enthroned upon the Ark is a consuming fire, Who burns away those who presume to enter His presence in an unworthy manner.

If this is Who God is... should we be welcoming His Presence into our lives?  Isn't He too dangerous?  And what does the prancing, jubilant King have to teach us about God dwelling amongst His people?

Come for the fiery wrath of God.  Stay for the public nudity.

    God's Attributes: Holiness

    God's Attributes: Holiness

Isaiah found himself in the presence of God and recorded the only words he heard as being "Holy, holy, holy." The mere words of mankind fall short of describing the "otherness" of God. This week Pastor Tim uses the story of the death of Uzzah in 1 Chronicles 13 to remind us of how we can make the holiness of God an unimportant thing and the need to grow in our awe of Him.
