Zbayul: The Invisible Village of Ladakh

Zbayul: The Invisible Village of Ladakh
"In 1948, as India was fighting Pakistan in Kashmir, the Pakistani army reached this village but bypassed it completely. Simply because hidden behind a gorge, with just one access point, the village was invisible to them. Legend has it that when the army of a neighbouring kingdom tried to invade the village, they were greeted with huge boulders falling off the gorge, which forced the army to retreat. This week, in the ninth episode of Kashmir diaries, we travel to Ladakh and witness one of the most interesting experiments in local heritage conservation, housed in a 500-year-old home.

Being Called Higher - Derek Mack - Monday Nights

Being Called Higher - Derek Mack - Monday Nights
Derek Mack preaches on being called higher. He uses a passage from Matthew 5 and several other Biblical examples of people being called up the mountain in order to encounter God. Even in seasons of uncertainty or chaos, Derek urges us to get out of the metaphorical valley where we are in danger of letting passivity, anger, anxiety or pride keep us stuck. We learn that living out the beatitudes is key to intimacy with God.

All early-stage companies are in search of traction. It’s notable that the opposite of traction is distraction and top Founders have an inverse response to distraction. As the world around them gets more distracting, what they see is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to break out from their competitors and win. NFX partner James Currier talks with Nir Eyal, former instructor at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and author of the bestseller, “Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products.” 2013 His latest book, “Indistractable: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life,” 2019 is out now. Nir walks us through his frameworks for product building, focus, traction, and building a culture centered around speed and growth. We’ve organized some of Nir’s insights from our podcast conversation for the benefit of focused Founders everywhere. Visit nirandfar.com for more.

MK213: Talk Nerdy to Me (The Witcher, LOTR, The Matrix, Video Games, Black and in Tech, DDR)

It’s going to get so nerdy! More than usual- this is going to be a 12 off the nerd scale so get ready! We've got The legendary Cymatic Bruce a VR Evangelist, DDR World Champion, Co Founder of Alt Space VR, and just a fabulous blerd! We are going to revisit some of our favorite Sci-Fi and Fantasy movie epics like Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, The Matrix Trilogy, leading into a discussion about the Witcher and how best to enjoy this diverse fantasy epic (you can tell what I did over the break). And in the main event Bruce leads us in a conversation about video games and tech by first talking about the god father of video game consoles... Jerry Lewis, who was an early Black Silicon Valley engineer and creator of the Fairchild Channel F. He’s kind of like Bruce’s Obi Wan because through him we get Bruce’s origin story, and being Black and navigating the tech and video game world. This of course launches us into so many conversations about the Black Silicon Valley Exodus, toxic masculinity in the competitive video game world, the history of marketing video games to boys how that came to be, and the inclusivity of some pockets of the video game world over others and the direction it’s all heading in. Get your Star Wars Mandalorian Nerd goggles on and your Witcher’s Sorcerer's tarp on because you well get wet... with all this sweet sweet nerdtastic talk.

    Overcoming... Dealing with Cancer!

    Overcoming... Dealing with Cancer!
Being an Overcomer is more than just words! For some, it involves the worry surrounding that next doctors visit, that diagnosis, the treatments that can last for weeks and even months at a time... Being an Overcomer, means to stand up, with your eyes fully focused on Jesus Christ and proclaim: I will not surrender and I will not give-up! My God is Big! Robert Wright is hanging-out with the guys today and will be talking about his personal struggles through a cancer diagnosis. Ultimately, the only possibility to beat it required the removal of his leg. A life dedicated to serving others through Law Enforcement would come to an end. However, through it all, Robert would prove to be a Warrior for God! The lives that Robert touched through his positive and uplifting updates, despite his circumstances, will never be known this side of Heaven. He has walked on the highest of mountains and he has crawled through the lowest of valleys, and all the time he has declared that his God is good! Hop-on and hang-out with the guys!

My Favorite "Health Hack", How to Get the Best Night of Sleep Possible and How I Took 17 Years off My Biological Age

I recently spent an entire month in Estonia. It's a small country near the border of Finland and was the site of the 2018 Mind Valley University. I was fortunate to be invited as a Key Teacher at the month-long event and I wanted to share with you a conversation I had with Vishen Lakhiani. Vishen had a few questions for me, and I was also able to answer a few questions from the audience.

You can watch the whole interview and check out Mind Valley U here.

In my chat with Vishen, you'll discover:

-How the remedies to many common maladies are right in front of us in nature if we just know how and where to look... 7:00

-How you can "hack" your environment to mimic that of our ancestors, even if you're relegated to sitting in front of a computer screen all day... 9:30

-The research that shows how much exercise is "too much" for your own situation... 17:00

-What is my favorite "health hack?"... 24:00

-My thoughts on getting the best night of sleep possible... 29:00

-What are my thoughts on "nutrigenomics"?... 42:15

-The one change I made that took 17 years off my biological age... 47:45

-My best advice on how to look good in the buff... 59:30
