    About Peter Scott:

    Peter Scott is an executive coach and leadership development professional with over 35 years’ experience leading specialist teams in complex and demanding environments. 

    Joining the Royal Australian Navy as a seventeen-year-old Midshipman in 1983, he rose over three decades to be the professional head of the Navy’s elite: the Submarine Arm.  

    During that journey, Peter 

    • survived and led others through at-sea fires, floods and explosions; 
    • passed the most demanding military command course in the world; and 
    • commanded the longest deployment ever conducted by an Australian submarine.  

    A veteran of multiple Special Operations with the Submarine Arm, Peter also saw war service in Iraq, the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan during 2006 and 2007.  

    He was awarded a Commendation for Distinguished Service in the Australia Day Honours List 2008, having previously been decorated with the Conspicuous Service Cross for achievements in command of HMAS Collins.

    In all, he served in twenty different command and leadership appointments over 34 years. 

    Peter holds a Masters in Coaching Psychology from the University of Sydney and now works to unleash the courage, compassion and wisdom of leaders. 

    He is married with an adult daughter and runs trail ultra-marathons for fun and relaxation.

    Author Brian Emerson on expanding leadership through polarities

     

    Brian Emerson, Ph.D. is Principal and founder of Andiron, a firm committed to helping leaders  navigate organizational complexity. He has an impressive history of partnering with organizations around the world to achieve sustained results in leadership development, aligning organizational culture and strategy,  and harnessing the power of polarities.

    In addition to consulting and coaching, Brian teaches about paradox in leadership and  organizations at the University of Notre Dame, the University of Maryland, and as co director of Georgetown University’s Certificate in Polarities and Paradox.

    He is the co-author of two books, A Manager’s Guide to Coaching, and Navigating  Polarities: Using Both/And Thinking to Lead Transformation, the first book in the  Navigating Polarities series, which he co-edits.

    Brian holds an M.A. in Organizational Communication, an M.A. in Human Development,  and a Ph.D. in Human and Organizational Systems. He is a Master in Polarity Thinking and  has a certificate in Organizational Development from Georgetown University.

    He lives outside Washington, D.C. where he and his partner are restoring a historic farm  and trying their best to keep bees.
