Can We Really Take Back Our Data With Web 3? Let’s Start With Understanding What It Is And How Can Change Online Businesses And Our Internet Experience | A Conversation With Connor Borrego | Redefining Society Podcast With Marco Ciappelli

1, 2, 3 … NFT… and WEB .3 For those of you that are still figuring out WEB .2, it may be time to skip ahead and envision an internet where users can regain the ownership of their data — and identity too? Can we really? Let’s start with the basics: what is web .3?

In the podcast, Sean joins Marco, and they ask A TON of questions to Connor Borrego, a web3 nerd who wants to help users reclaim ownership of their digital identity.

He got us thinking that maybe a better internet is in reach and wondering about what that could look and feel like.

    About Connor
He believes... that in spite of religious, cultural, political, professional, et al. divides that we have in theses systems of life, we are just different reflections of the same core truth.

The Connor Borrego that clings to tradition and likes stability is his web2 side, while his passionate drive to constantly learn and grow is a reflection of his web3 side.

Resistance to change is natural, but change is an absolute. forgetting this keeps us locked in hell.

What Is And What Is Not A Virtual Human? More Than An Influencer And A Fashion Statement? | A Conversation With Digital Creative Writer, Specializing In Content For Virtual Influencers, Astrid Hiort | Redefining Society Podcast With Marco Ciappelli

What Is And What Is Not A Virtual Human? More Than An Influencer And A Fashion Statement? | A Conversation With Digital Creative Writer, Specializing In Content For Virtual Influencers, Astrid Hiort | Redefining Society Podcast With Marco Ciappelli

Influencers help brands to sell products by creating content on social media — the concept is certainly not new. How about virtual ones? It depends on what we assume "virtual" means because, in the advertising field, it is not new either. The technology makes this different, but humans are still in the machine.

The point is that testimonials have been around since the beginning of advertising, as such virtual ones. You can think of celebrities, authorities in the field, fictional characters, and cartoon characters. As technology has evolved, so have the techniques to create and make them more believable, likable, engaging, relatable, and even more real.

Nowadays, there is a tendency in our society — well, marketing is responsible for a lot of that hype —  to use the words Artificial Intelligence, Augmented, and Virtual Reality, even when it is not precisely that. Nevertheless, our society is moving faster on the technology highway, and some blurriness is justified. Sometimes.

So these virtual influencers, also called virtual humans — what are they, and, most of all, what are not? What do they do, and what they could do?

Maybe they are not exactly sentient, but there are human that makes them seems so.

Confused? We were too. So we invited on the show Astrid Hiort, a digital creative and journalist, specializing in content for virtual influencers and digital fashion.

Join us, or maybe our digital twins?

How NASA’s Space Exploration, Technology, And Security Positively Impact Humanity | A Conversation With Renee Wynn And Steve Luczynski | Redefining Society Podcast With Marco Ciappelli

Even if you want to refuse to look up or you believe the Earth is flat, it doesn’t change the truth about Space Exploration: it has an impressive track record of improving our life here on the ground. So many aspects of our well-being, our security, and the growth of humanity as a whole depend on it.

In this podcast, we are joined again by our long-time friend Steve Luczynski from the Aerospace Village and our new friend Renee Wynn, former CIO at NASA.

The stories they shared with us kept us glued to the chair, and we had to force ourselves to cut the conversation — as it could have literally lasted forever. From security in space and in our skies to the technology invented, developed, used up there, and then applied to our everyday life; to the essential questions about why we explore the unknown and it is so vital for the future of humanity. We covered a lot but only touched the surface. We guarantee that we will keep telling many more of these stories.

Grab your popcorn, look up, and listen to this podcast!

Ukraine Invasion: Lessons On Cyber Warfare (WAR) And Its Impact On Humanity | A Conversation With Grant Gibson | Redefining Society With Marco Ciappelli

Ukraine Invasion: Lessons On Cyber Warfare (WAR) And Its Impact On Humanity | A Conversation With Grant Gibson | Redefining Society With Marco Ciappelli

Some say that nobody wants war, and yet here we are. They are different because technology has changed, but they still suck. Is there a clear distinction between cyber and kinetic warfare? Does it even matter? What can we learn about it from this war in Ukraine?

Despite the distinction between different kinds of war for headlines and panel conversation, war is war. Under that horrible word, you can line up as many strategies, tools, and methodologies as you like, but once something is used as a weapon against others, it all sounds like war. In today’s conversation with Grant Gibson, we discuss what is happening in Ukraine and how what we are observing is unique, either in the techniques used or in how those are used. An underground cyberwar is going on, which is part of a larger war. Tinder reveals troop locations; amateur drones are taking part in the action discovering and helping to destroy vehicles on convoys, civilian hackers take up arms, and Microsoft and other tech companies play support roles. All the while, leaders try to strategize cyber protocols in wartime theaters.

This will be a moment that defines cyber warfare — well, warfare.

Spoiler alert, you can call war what you want; it is still something that shouldn’t exist — in any form.

Cryptography Everywhere | Protecting Data In Systems, Apps, And Communications - Is It Resilient Enough For What The Future Holds? | Redefining Society With Professor Kenneth Graham Paterson

Cryptography Everywhere | Protecting Data In Systems, Apps, And Communications - Is It Resilient Enough For What The Future Holds? | Redefining Society With Professor Kenneth Graham Paterson

Cryptography is now everywhere in the online world; but how do we know that it’s doing its job properly?

Security of “messaging systems” like WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, etc. How do they work? What security do they offer? How do we know they're any good?

And those are just a few questions for today's reality where we tend to trust that the cryptographic algorithms in user are fairly resilient. What Impact will quantum computing have on cryptography in the future; a reality we must prepare for since quantum computing is developing rapidly. To be prepared for this, we must first understand quantum computing itself and what it means for conventional cryptographic systems. Only then can we determine how (and how well) we are getting ready for it.

Underserved People Need Free Access To Learn Digital, Social, And Business Skills | Redefining Society With Dr. Susan Birne-Stone and Busayo Odunlami

Underserved People Need Free Access To Learn Digital, Social, And Business Skills | Redefining Society With Dr. Susan Birne-Stone and Busayo Odunlami

Positive cultural and societal changes do not happen in a day, but they need to start somewhere, and indeed they do not happen by magic. Education is a key driver that can promote, facilitate, and speed up such changes.

Contact of different societies, technological evolution, and geographical and ecological factors can initiate societal changes that can take quite some time. Still, sometimes we need to improve our communities faster, which is when movements and organizations can speed up the pace.

In today's podcast, we talk about how providing underserved young people with free access to the digital, business, and social skills required to be successful in today's technology-driven global economy can change not only the lives of individuals but also bring much more significant positive consequences in our modern societies.

    Billion Strong Foundation
To achieve economic independence, we believe there are a billion energetic, determined individuals that, if given a chance, will eagerly acquire the digital, social, and business skills necessary to succeed in today's ever-changing global environment.
We want to inspire and uplift young individuals, across the globe, to build future products and services while creating new jobs and new businesses that serve their communities and society. We believe that our framework supports the transformation required for individuals to develop the entrepreneurial spirit required to exist in a technology-driven world.”

A Metaverse That Is Diverse, Inclusive, Accessible And Safe For All. Why Not? Seriously! | A Conversation With With Eve Logunova-Parker | Redefining Society Podcast With Marco Ciappelli

The Metaverse, VR, XR, and much of the social technology we are developing today can and should be used for good. We have an ample opportunity to use it for good or look back one day and regret we didn’t.

In this conversation, we spoke about what is the driving force that is leading the commercialization of VR, XR, and the Metaverse, but also all the paths we could take to create a virtual world that doesn’t have to carry the bias we are trying to fight in the one where we live our daily life, for now. Instead, there is hope for diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and openness for all.

    About Eve
Eve's life mission is to make technology more inclusive and accessible for people of all walks of life, with a special emphasis on building inclusive solutions by DeepTech companies themselves.  With data becoming every company’s best asset, Eve truly believes that AI ethics, Inclusion by design, diverse datasets as well as tech teams are vital in achieving progress toward a more inclusive workplace as well as society at large.

    About the Respect Project

360s, AR/VR, and Virtual Influencers with Rick Allen of Hogarth Australia

360s, AR/VR, and Virtual Influencers with Rick Allen of Hogarth Australia

    Summary

Rick Allen of Hogarth Australia joins the show to talk about the current biggest segment of computational assets in use today, the 360 spin, and we explore some other things the future might bring with regards to AR, VR, GAN Generated Imagery, and we talk a bit about Rozy, Korea's virtual influencer.

    Key Takeaways

    • 360 rotational assets seem to stop and start as content that brands want to use, but in some segments, like shoes and appliances, there is a clear benefit.
    • AR will develop into technology that allows us to virtual try on items, perhaps even becoming an instore shopping feature, where we can check out items virtually to decide if we want to try them on physically.
    • LED technology that create large backdrops that are actually screens (like The Mandalorian Soundstage) could come down in price enough to be feasible for an e-comm studio, creating a significantly more sustainable way to capture editorial content.
    • Studios today should be preparing their pipelines for the data and processing needs of AR. We have yet to see what this technology can do for e-comm, but it could be a seismic shift in how we create content.
