Why optometrists and the province aren’t seeing eye to eye

Why optometrists and the province aren’t seeing eye to eye

With eye doctors embroiled in a pay dispute with the Ontario government over what OHIP covers of an annual eye exam, the province’s optometrists have threatened to not accept OHIP-covered patients — which most affects patients under 18 and above 65 — come September unless the province agrees to legally-binding negotiations on the issue. Dr. Salaba joins us to explain the doctor’s case.

Guest: Dr. Sheldon Salaba, Hamilton-based optometrist and president of the Ontario Association of Optometrists

Healing Your Vision Naturally With Claudia Muehlenweg

Healing Your Vision Naturally With Claudia Muehlenweg

Have you ever noticed that your vision can change during the day or from day to day? The reason for this is because stress affects your eyes. Your eyes are connected to the brain and your emotions and stress can affect your eyesight. Often as children, when our vision starts to suffer, it can be linked to emotional stress that is going on. When our bodies get overwhelmed as children, the nervous system can actually make our vision go blurry, to protect us.

In this episode, I sit down with Claudia Muehlenweg, from Holistic Vision, who as a child was told she needed glasses.  This led to a lot of insecurities and bullying and as a result, she got frustrated and decided there must be a better way.  Now, through her research, she has found that it is possible to self-heal your vision.

Her mission is to now help others with their vision and while she admits that everyone cannot be completely glasses-free, she says that everyone can improve their overall vision and she shares with us some simple exercises we can begin to do today to self-heal our own vision.

    Topics Discussed:

    • The body can heal itself from just about everything.
    • How stress affects our vision & why our vision changes.
    • How to heal your vision without glasses or surgery.

9: Fr. Jamie Dennis, a Blind Priest Guiding the Faithful

9: Fr. Jamie Dennis, a Blind Priest Guiding the Faithful

"The Church hasn't always been good at dealing with people who are, quote unquote different. It's difficult." Fr. Jamie Dennis is one of what he estimates are only 10 Catholic priests in the U.S. He's a fascinating person, who lives in a train caboose, and runs his own railroad, on his family farm near Owensboro, KY. He talks to us about why the Latin Mass and Byzantine Liturgy are more accessible than the Ordinary Form of the Mass, and he talks about the challenges he faced growing up while losing his vision.

“It's a difficult world we live in. But it can be dealt with,” he says. "With God, lots of things are possible."

How Blind Folks Dealing with the Pandemic?

In the last two weeks, the whole world has changed. The global economy has all but slammed to a halt, people are locked in their houses and not allowed to leave except for essential tasks, and the self-isolation has presented humans with a whole new set of challenges they probably never imagined having. Today we take an overview look at how the blind community is reacting, share some resources as starting points for blind and low vision folks looking to learn more, and chat with Be My Eyes communications officer Cecilie Skou Anderson about what's going on in Denmark.
