Share Your Story To Help Others - Summer Break - EP 64

Your story is yours to share and it can serve a bigger purpose for your listener -  it could change their whole world. Getting personal about your stories and experiences can make your listeners feel included, seen, and heard. Even if you prefer to avoid the spotlight, keep in mind that your podcast isn’t about you. It’s about what you can bring to the table through your lived experience. Being vulnerable enough to share a glimpse into what has made you, you, helps build a real connection with your listeners. What will you say today that will help someone else tomorrow?

    Share Your Story By:

    • Understanding why getting outside of yourself and your worries will broaden your relatability
    • Knowing what level of intimacy to share in your stories
    • Creating awareness around how even the smallest story could have a real impact on your listener.

    56. Brag without Bragging - Story #9

Jen Vellenga continues to fill the story bank with a story about William's award.  This episode is ripped from the files of group coaching for the Speak with Presence program by Voice First World.

Jen Vellenga's "word" for 2023 is CONSISTENCY. Co-host Jennifer Rettele-Thomas challenged her to tell a story on the Speak with Presence podcast every day of 2023 starting on January 19, 2023.

Can Jen V. do it? JRT doubts it.

Even if she's not perfect...how many stories can she tell and what structures will she use?

Code Switching - Change Your Voice Behind the Mic - EP 52

Code Switching - Change Your Voice Behind the Mic - EP 52

A new to me phrase is “code-switching,” a term I learnt recently about cultural differences in speech. It’s where you switch from one language to the next or adopt both languages at the same time interchangeably. But what about beyond racial culture and language? The culture of your community and who you are actually speaking to? It's something we all do in everyday situations and in podcasting, you code-switch a lot more than you think.

    9. MaryAnne McCormack: Unlocking the secret power of your voice

    9. MaryAnne McCormack: Unlocking the secret power of your voice

    Hello Honey!

Want to know how to use your voice in the most powerful way?

This week, I interview MaryAnne McCormack from @themacproject. MaryAnne is a vocal, acting and creative coach. While performing at some of Melbourne and Australia's biggest events with The Mac Project Band, she coaches women in business to connect to their authenic voices and harness their power within. This goes beyond the voice and encompasses all aspects of your being!

    Guess what?

MaryAnne is my vocal coach! I give you some of the tips and tricks I have learned through my work with MaryAnne this past 10 months. I have not had any formal training or experience in public speaking and media! I chose to start a podcast anyway and build my skill set on the journey. This is where i found everything I wanted in a voice coach at The Mac Project.

We discuss MaryAnne's start up story, her journey around the world and inspiration to bring her wisdom to women from all walks of life.

MaryAnne shares many secrets to unlocking the power of your voice! She provides us with practical tools to get started today!

For me, I was bored of all the corporate presentation workshops and team building coaches (there is a space for those of you that resonate with these services). I was looking for something, grounding, holistic and little bit spiritual. My work with MaryAnne helped me to find confidence within myself to actually pursue this podcast and deliver my audience an improve quailty audio. I have so much to continue learning, no doubt I will look back and have a giggle at my current production!

As MaryAnne suggests, we need to enjoy the journey and not put all of our focus on the destination!

Let me know if you learned or implemented anything new after listening to this epidsode! I love hearing from you about your wins.

Stop Thinking About Yourself - EP 50

Stop Thinking About Yourself - EP 50

As humans, we are people pleasers. We want connection, community, and a feeling of belonging. As young kids, we do things to please our parents, our teachers, and friends. Then as adults, we want to fulfill the needs of our bosses, partners (romantic or otherwise), and so on.

Podcasting can have that same reflection. We want to delight our listeners, teach or entertain them with our thoughts and stories. But when you think about how you feel and how you may sound, all of those feelings impact your listeners and how they feel. It's not about you. It is about them. So let's get into that feeling.

Challenge What a Powerful Voice Sounds Like - EP 48

Challenge What a Powerful Voice Sounds Like - EP 48

When you’re behind the mic, how often do you second guess yourself, pause and try not to say those ums and uhs? Or you put on your “podcast host” hat and start speaking with a different voice? In today's episode, I break down the limiting beliefs about what makes a “strong voice” so we can rewrite our subconscious brain about what we believe that is. You’ll learn how to reclaim your voice and go from being restricted and nervous to being magnetic and unapologetically yourself behind the mic.

The idea of what power sounds like these days is shifting. So let's explore that and let's change things together.

Normalizing Stuttering for Verbal Diversity with Maya Chupkov - EP 47

Normalizing Stuttering for Verbal Diversity with Maya Chupkov - EP 47

How we perceive strong and confident voices gets manipulated from the big screen and from everyday media. These platforms tinker with our minds to make us think that certain voices or tones represent one way of strength or weakness. And the media will have us all believe that self-assured, confident people sound smooth and never say “um” or “uh” or “like.” But being in the real world, that's not true.

Today, I'm bringing on Maya Chupkov, the executive director of Proud Stutter, a podcast about shifting the stuttering narrative and embracing verbal diversity.

    We dive deep into:

    • How Maya has incorporated her stutter as part of her podcast
    • The defining moment that led her to be an advocate for verbal diversity
    • The difference between a nervous stutter vs a natural stutter

My Day One in Podcasting with Imposter Syndrome - EP 46

I’m back from my Summer break and after reflecting on my personal life and my story so far, I had a few thoughts come up that tie into podcasting. How do we know when to share things, how much do we share, and what is important to share when we're behind the mic?

In this episode and the next few episodes for the rest of 2022, I’m diving deeper into that mindset and how to share your story behind your voice. Today, I'll share mine.

#129 - Judith Quin - Give yourself permission to Speak out, Gain Vocal Confidence and Self-Belief

#129 - Judith Quin - Give yourself permission to Speak out, Gain Vocal Confidence and Self-Belief

    INTRO

    Judith Quin describes herself as a tree-hugging, crystal-loving, sound-healing hippy-chick AND F1-loving, meat-eating rock chick too!
Judith is also a multi-award-winning vocal confidence & communication specialist,  voice-vibration sound & energy practitioner, author, and member of The Association of Transformational Leaders of Europe. Her business is Your Whole Voice

    What we talked about

    • Why using your voice is so important
    • How we have bcome shut down and felt unable to use our voice
    • How our emotions have become trapped in our bodies and often shut us down.
    • Our inner child protects us, as a result of an incident or incidents that leave us feeling we have to have permission to speak out.

“When you liberate your voice, you liberate your life because your voice is a reflection of every experience or emotion that you have ever witnessed or imagined.

    BIO

Liberate Your Voice to Liberate Your Life.

Your voice is a reflection of every emotion or experience you have ever had. These create restrictions which are held in your subconscious brain and body's cell memory, as well as communication challenges in your personal and professional lives.

Judith combines her experience as a voice vibration sound healer, qualified coach and classically trained professional actor to transform lives and businesses by liberating voices.

She helps her clients recognise and release their physical, mental, emotional, and energetic restrictions so they can speak with more clarity, confidence and conviction, no matter the situation.

ALL speaking is ‘public’ speaking – Judith’s work is not just for those who are going to be speaking from a stage, but for all areas of life, personal and professional. She created Your Whole Voice as a powerful, holistic, vocal-liberation method for high-purpose leaders, emerging leaders and entrepreneurs who want to create greater connection and growth when they speak. Too many people disconnect their voice from who they really are and let their fears or concerns drive them. Once you re-connect to your whole, true, self, you can find your whole, true, voice and become a more confident communicator, able to lead life with the courage of your convictions.

If you want to make a change, are ready to step up to the next level, or embrace the next step in your life, Judith re-connects you to who you really are, and to the passion behind your purpose, so that you can express yourself with the power of your whole voice.

Judith is an international public speaker, author of ‘Stop Should-ing. Start Wanting.’, creator of the Sound Your Voice oracle card deck, and co-author of two Amazon #1 international bestselling books, she is also a member of the Association of Transformational Leaders of Europe.

Accept and Elevate Your Accent with Maggie Perotin - EP 42

Accept and Elevate Your Accent with Maggie Perotin - EP 42

Like computer software, your brain is programmed to keep you safe, but sometimes it's doing its job all too well. One area of that is judgement. When we receive judgement, especially when we use our voice, we have this fear of judgement from ourselves and especially from others. What will they think of me? Will I be perceived as smart and knowledgeable versus weak and not knowing what I'm talking about?

Maggie Perotin is a business and leadership coach who recently launched her podcast and touches on this very thing. She reveals how she's reconnected with her voice without changing the way she speaks and has continued to showcase who she is behind the mic on her podcast.

    We also discover:

    • How Maggie uses her voice fully and embraces her accent.
    • Her entire workflow from idea to recording a podcast episode.
    • The mindset blocks she had to overcome along the way.

Embrace Your Accent - EP 41

There is nothing wrong with having an accent because everyone has an accent based on where you were born, where you grew up, and where you live. It's associated with where you're from. So why are we trying to erase who we are or assimilate into the same accent?

Be you on your podcast and empower yourself to know that you can alter certain sounds or syllables based on your muscles, your tongue, your lips, and how you say something because we're not going to erase who you are.

Come along this ride with me so your listeners can get to know you first, instead of trying to assimilate with the crowd.

How Storytelling Builds Emotional Connections for Podcasters with Sophie Wadsworth - EP 33

How Storytelling Builds Emotional Connections for Podcasters with Sophie Wadsworth - EP 33

Storytelling is at the heart of podcasting. Whether you have an interview show creating a scripted podcast or even a solo episode of your own, it's all about being authentic, truthful, and to be confident in sharing your story through your voice. Even though, traditionally, podcasting is an audio-only platform, through our storytelling, we can still feel, smell, and visualize all through how we tell a story. One of the best things about podcasting is that we can paint a picture to create the theatre of our minds. Our sensories are heightened through our voice alone.

Sophie Wadsworth joins me to discuss how we can nurture a culture of storytelling for podcasting. She brings a passion for helping leaders craft and deliver personal, mission-centred stories. She draws on her experience as a writer and executive leader to collaborate with you in creating unique presentations. We'll tackle what a story actually is, how storytelling builds on emotional connections and what the building blocks to storytelling are to crafting a unique story for podcasters.

    We'll also build on:

    • How to improve your communication to nurture empathy and inclusivity.
    • What you can do today to improve the way you communicate solo and with guests.
    • The importance of being a good listener, how to provide value, and how to maintain a natural and conversational pace.

Why Looking Good On Camera Is Important For Your Podcast with Suzanne Glover - EP 31

Why Looking Good On Camera Is Important For Your Podcast with Suzanne Glover - EP 31

A common theme I hear among Podcasters is that we chose podcasting as our medium because we don't have to deal with visuals or video. You can podcast in your pajamas, if you like. We love the virtual space and you don't even have to bother with your hair if you don't want to. That's actually one of my favourite things about it. But more and more, we hear that video is needed as well for anything to be successful. Today’s guest, Suzanne Glover, joins me to explain why we need to embrace video and how we can leverage video alongside our podcasts.

Suzanne is a professional actress, sales pro and internet marketer with a combined 35 years of experience in those areas. She gained recognition in the TV and film industry with award-winning work and has been in the top percentage of earners in the Screen Actors Guild. She teaches how to connect through the camera and sell successfully in the new virtual world that we're in as well as how to successfully integrate video into your very busy podcasting life.

    Hit play to hear about:

    • How to become more comfortable on camera.
    • Market sophistication - what it is and how to adapt yourself to the different mediums available.
    • What podcasters should be doing to encapsulate video to their advantage.
    • The biggest challenges that podcasters face today and how to overcome the struggles of camera anxiety.
