Washed to Get Dirty - John 13:1-20

Washed to Get Dirty - John 13:1-20

Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. 2 During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him, 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, 4 rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. 5 Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. 6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” 7 Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” 8 Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” 9 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” 10 Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.” 11 For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said, “Not all of you are clean.”12 When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? 13 You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. 16 Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. 18 I am not speaking of all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But the Scripture will be fulfilled, ‘He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’ 19 I am telling you this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I am he. 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”

    2.     Do you feel/see how social gravity flows up?
    3.     Of the three following, which attitude do you have more of when it comes to letting Jesus wash you?
“I’m ok, why do I need cleansing?”
“I’m ashamed and embarrassed, and don’t want to be known.”
“I’ll take care of it myself, then I’ll welcome Jesus.”
    4.     In what ways might you make yourself ‘greater’ than Jesus?
    5.     “Our church is only as strong as the love we show to the weakest link.”  Do you agree?  How are we doing in that department?
    6.     Do you believe that serving in Jesus’ name will bring you the blessing of knowing Jesus more?  Is knowing Jesus more worth it to you?

What Does the Bible Say About Life As A Christian?

What Does the Bible Say About Life As A Christian?

In this episode, Arnie and Fred discuss what the Bible says about life as a Christian. We begin by noticing a number of people who claim to be Christians, but their life indicates that they don't really know what it means to be a Christian. This seems to be the case with a lot of people. So, we start by looking at what it means to be a Christian. The Bible teaches that once becoming a Christian, all of our sins have been cleansed. Our former life was one without hope and we look at several passages that tell us that. But when we are baptized, we look at passages that tell us what happens to us. These actions result in the Christian beginning a new life. We note passages that tell us what that means. We end this episode by beginning our discussion of Jesus as our Lord and Master. We will continue this discussion in the next episode. Take about 30 minutes to listen in on our comments. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. What Does The Bible Say About Being Saved?

What Does The Bible Say About Being Saved?

In this episode, Arnie and Fred discuss what the Bible says one must do to be saved.  We start out by talking about why the question is even asked in the Bible about being saved. Saved from what?  We move to the answers that are not given in the Bible, primarily because many people are told to do many things the Bible does not say. We spend most of our time looking at some of the some of the example of people in the Bible that asked "What must I do?" or  "What must I do to be saved?" Those noted are the Philippian jailer, the 3,000 Jews in Jerusalem on Pentecost, Saul of Tarsus, the Ethiopian Royal Treasurer and Cornelius and his household and neighbors. We finally note that there was a consistent answer provided by the inspired apostles to the question of what one must do to be saved. Take about 30 minutes to discover what the Bible says one must do to be saved. Have your Bible handy so you can follow along in our discussion to make sure we are in fact teaching what the Bible says about this most important subject.

Ep. 32 - The Wicker Basket

Ep. 32 - The Wicker Basket

It is great to set big goals.  But beware, they are not what this is about.  This is about the process. This is about you becoming the kind of people who can achieve goals.  The problems with grading ourselves by goal's reached is 1) if we, for whatever reason, don't reach them, we are crushed.  2) we do reach them and they didn't satisfy or we stop trying afterward.  Listen to the story of the boy with the wicker basket today.  He wanted to show immediate and tangible results from his labor. But the results weren't there in that way.  Instead, something else was happening.  Something more important and transformative was happening.  He didn't produce a thing. He fundamentally changed a thing.  And that is a way bigger reason to press on for growth.  Enjoy the process, even more than what you produce, because they process if changing you, and that will make all the difference!

    - How to learn from the wicker basket.

    - How to be less goal oriented and more process oriented.

    - How to find joy in who you become even more than what you produce.

    - How to apply the process to faith, fitness, finance and friendships.

    - How to get great satisfaction in the journey, not just the destination.

Breaking the Chains of Lust - Audio

Breaking the Chains of Lust - Audio
    - Genesis 39:1-12 ; -Pastor Peter Franz ;-Temptations are a challenge of life that we face every day. Lust is one of them and we must deal with it as Joseph did in Egypt. Jesus is with us and will help us face this challenge and recognize the evil in it. We need to refuse to enter into the environment which it occupies, and run away from it so we will not be trapped as Joseph did. There will be temptations in our lives until Jesus comes. We must go to Him and surrender and accept His salvation for our sins, as Jesus went to the cross and died for our sins.
