Det är tidig morgon i Camden, i Norra London. På gatan utanför ett hus står en grupp män. Det är sommar men männen har jackor på sig, efter timmar utomhus. I varje mans hand är en kamera med ett stort objektiv. Fotograferna utbyter cigaretter och halvhjärtade skämt om objektivens längd. Stämningen är uppsluppen. För de väntar på något. Något, eller snarare, någon. De kallar henne för råttfångaren i Camden, efter sagan om den karismastiske råttfångaren som kunde locka alla med sig med sin vackra musik.

Inne i huset sitter den 24-åriga Amy Winehouse. Hon har varit uppe hela natten medan paparazzifotograferna har väntat spänt. Amy har just vunnit fem grammys men hennes lägenhet skvallrar om ett annat liv än hos en framgångsrik sångerska. På golvet ligger chipspåsar, cigarettfimpar och folie.

Tre år senare hittas Amy Winehouse död i sin lägenhet. Hon blir 27 år gammal.

Det här är historien om en artist som anses vara en gammal själ och samtidigt - en helt ny typ av artist. Hon låter afroamerikansk, är brittisk-judisk. Hon är ung och har samtidigt en röst som låter som att hon har levt ett helt liv. Hon sjunger sofistikerat men pratar rått. Amy Winehouse musik blir odödlig eftersom hon är musikaliskt mjuk men textmässigt elak.
