Rockcast 336 - Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust

Rockcast 336 - Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust
It's Sevendust Truthkiller Day! It's the 13th studio album from the legendary Sevendust and to celebrate I caught up with singer and all-around great human Lajon Witherspoon for a quick conversation about Truthkiller. Sevendust also signed a new record deal with Napalm Records for this album and will be hitting the road with Alter Bridge and Mammouth WVH next month, then with Static-X this fall. Oh, and it turns out that in our adult live we both ride Harleys but in our younger live we both had Pontiac Sunfires!

    Friday (1995)

    Friday (1995)

"Friday" wasn't the easiest episode to record, but it's one of our new favorites. After Big D recovered from his Strawberry Festival-induced hospitalization, the Shat Crew convened to debate whether certified stars like Chris Tucker, John Witherspoon, Regina King, "Tiny" Lister, Bernie Mac, and Michael Clarke Duncan could elevate a Zig-Zag-thin plot to a '90s comedy classic.

In this episode, we discuss how Ice Cube and DJ Pooh succeeded in their mission to show a different side of the 'hood, how weed helped Big D "make it a Blockbuster night," and why it sometimes pays to party in dangerous places.

Big D implores today's youth to "live in the moment" as we also cover the bathroom habits of POC, why Ash can't shower alone, "the conditions" in Atlanta, and terrible fight scenes.

States On Screen - Sweet Home Alabama

States On Screen - Sweet Home Alabama

This week is the inaugural episode of a new and weird format for the Statesmen. Don't be scared by a podcast concept where white guys talk about old movies! INSANE! REVOLUTIONARY! BRAVE!

Jokes aside, we had a lot of fun with this new format, and we're affectionately calling it: States on Screen! (or S.O.S. for short.)

In this episode we'll examine the 2002 romantic comedy Sweet Home Alabama, starring the perky chipmunk herself, Reese Witherspoon. Does this film do a good job at representing The Cotton State? Well it's about as casually racist as that official state nickname, so don't be surprised when we rip on this tone-deaf flick.

CronoCine Redux: Pleasantville (Gary Ross, 1998)

CronoCine Redux: Pleasantville (Gary Ross, 1998)

    ¡Hola Crononautas!

The Scott Carty Party, with Lynn Shelton

The Scott Carty Party, with Lynn Shelton

This episode was recorded in early April, but was only published two days before the sudden, unexpected death of Lynn. I'm forever grateful we had this final chat together. I never realized how poignant it would be.  (Original Description follows) Seattle filmmaker Lynn Shelton is behind some of the hottest shows out, including GLOW (Netflix) and Little Fires Everywhere (Hulu). Shelton also has movies like HUMPDAY, YOUR SISTER'S SISTER and her latest, from 2019, with her boyfriend Marc Maron, SWORD OF TRUST. As Marc of his WTF with Marc Maron Podcast walks through their shared quarantine home, Lynn and Scott get all caught up on working with Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon, new love and the challenge to keep creating.
