    Be weird. Be you.

    Be weird. Be you.

What if what made you weird as a kid makes you amazing as an adult?!

I recently heard someone say this, and it’s so true. The weird things that lit you up as a child are a clue to your unique and remarkable magic. Especially the things people might have told you are odd, or made you feel like you didn’t fit in.

Unfortunately, because our education system and work environments prize and reward conformity and assimilation, we choose to suppress our extraordinary “weird.”

In an environment where sameness is rewarded, being different feels extremely unsafe. And humans SO deeply crave belonging.

The good news is, because you made a choice (either conscious or subconscious) to suppress your weird, you also get to choose to uncover it. To shine it up, and to wear it proudly!

    So today, consider:
    - What lit me up as a kid?
    - What made me feel weird?
    - How can I wear that weird a bit more proudly in the world today?

    Getting untethered with: Tarot

    Getting untethered with: Tarot

Have you ever tried tarot? If so, what did you think? If not, why not? As one of the more 'mystical' practices we'll discuss in the Untethered Practices series, I believe tarot to be grossly misunderstood by anyone who fears it.

I feel like I can say this because, quite clearly, this used to be me.

Tarot is a self-reflective practice that can be incredibly supportive in helping you process your thoughts, understand emotions, and gain space and clarity from the swirl in your head.

And – even though it has occult association and influence – those beautiful card decks we know and love today actually originated in the hands of some wealthy Italian dudes. Truly, tarot is as mystical or practical as you believe it to be (and super helpful, either way.)

Whether you're a card flipping fool or simply tarot curious, this episode has something for you! Before recording the episode, I pulled some cards for the collective, so listen in so you can experience the tarot goodness and reflect on what the cards could mean for you. Enjoy!

    About the Untethered Practices Series
Over the next two weeks, I am offering a glimpse into Untethered Practices — some energetic and healing modalities that may be considered “woo-woo” to some.  (And by some, I mean myself, not so long ago.)

The intention with this series is to give you a glimpse into what these practices are,  why people do them, and to help you see if it’s something you may be curious to try!

If there’s a modality you’re curious about, I’m happy to go try it and report back. Send me a message or email! (Links below)

How to leap, even when you're scared

How to leap, even when you're scared

Life is a series of leaps. This is a quote Michelle Blue shared in Tuesday's episode, and I am o-b-s-e-s-s-e-d.

In this episode, amongst several energetic tirades about cacti and bad jingles, I break down why it's so important that we start embracing the leap. Plus, how to reframe fear and discomfort so we can move through (and with!) them sooo much faster.

Because on the other side of fear is all the juicy goodness that's waiting for you in your next leap of life. So let's leap, friend!

Listen to this episode to hear:

    • Why fear is a signal that there's something more for you.
    • How to use those signals to leap into your next stage of amazingness.
    • Why leaping with that fear presents gifts you can offer the world.

In Thursday Threads, I pull a little piece out from the most recent guest episode. In this episode, I’m referencing season 4, episode 21 featuring Michelle Blue.

Create your purpose-driven life – with Michelle Blue

Create your purpose-driven life – with Michelle Blue

Could fear be the number one reason you aren't getting what you want out of life? In this episode, you'll learn how overcoming fear and self-doubt will help you take a leap into the purpose-driven life you're meant to live.

Today's guest Michelle Blue is the creator and host of The Journey with Blue, where she leads conscious conversations and coaches women through sharing the spiritual, success, and mindset principles needed to step into their power to take the leap to create the life & business of their dreams.

Michelle is experienced at making fear and failure her greatest teachers, and in this episode, she shares how her $40,000 failure led her to creating the purpose-driven life of her dreams – and how that journey has led her to helping others do the same.

As a trained coach and experienced entrepreneur, Michelle believes there are infinite opportunities available to us all. Her desire is to share how you can overcome fear, self-doubt and failure to boldly take the leap into  your purpose to make their dreams a reality.

Listen to this episode to hear:

    • How to plug int your purpose.
    • Why fear and failure are the foundation for your transformation.
    • Why entrepreneurship is the biggest spiritual journey you can take.
    • What happens when your personal identity gets attached to your business – and what to do about it if it happens.

    Meet Michelle Blue
I’m Michelle Blue, one thing that I know, is that we all have a dream within us
and that if the dream is given to you, then it’s up to you to bring it forth into
    the world.

My entrepreneurial ‘Journey’ started after a study abroad trip to Ghana.
Inspired by the girls I met on the trip, I questioned “What was my part in
helping them bring their dreams to life?”. Which inspired me to start Bené, a
luxury scarf company committed to sponsoring tuition, books, supplies and
uniforms for the girls to continue their education and follow their dreams.

From my own experiences, lessons, sacrifices and failures I started The
Journey with Blue to help other entrepreneurial dreamers step into their
purpose and take the leap to creating the life and business of their dreams.

Through my personal ‘Journey’ and as a trained coach, each conversation is
rooted in the success, mindset and spiritual principles needed to become the
    person your purpose requires.

    What lights you up?

    What lights you up?

Do you struggle to see yourself clearly?

I talk to a lot of humans about their dreams and goals, and it seems like the hardest thing for people to do is identifying what truly lights them up.

Maybe you can relate. It's easy to say allll the things that don't light us up, but flipping that to the other side is a big challenge. In this episode, I'll walk you through an exercise that can help you get into both your mind and body to see and feel the things that light you up in your life. Because, like Jen Roth said in Tuesday's episode, this is where clarity truly comes from.

Listen to this episode to hear:

    • How to visually recognize if something is lighting you up
    • Why your enthusiasm is more important than "figuring it out"
    • Why joy is the real strategy

So today, take three deep cleansing breaths, and ask yourself:

    • If I had all the money in the world, and I still had to work – what would I do?
    • What am I feeling when I do that thing?
    • Where do I feel those emotions in my body?
    • Can I memorize that feeling  and where it exists in my body? Can I make it grow and expand?

    Stop chasing & Start enjoying

    Stop chasing & Start enjoying

Are you currently wishing for something better than what you have right now? If you don't feel satisfied with your life, if you're feeling like there's something more for you, and you're always trying to figure out what the next big thing is – listen to this episode.

Because future tripping is one of the most miserable trips you can go on. As I mentioned in the episode on Tuesday with Michelle Rios, achievers (like me and Michelle...and possibly you?) tend to find ourselves constantly seeking, striving, and wanting for the next best thing. This can lead us to being incredibly determined and motivated people – and to people who are never satisfied with the life they're living.

So, how do we fix this?

The answer is pretty simple, though I'll admit it's not easy for any high-functioning achiever or perfectionist to accomplish: Instead of always looking down the road for the next extraordinary thing to come our way, you have to feel the extraordinary happening right now.

Despite your hardships, despite your challenges, despite Kevin who won't stop heating up salmon in the break room microwave or Kari who clips her fingernails at 2:30 pm every Tuesday afternoon and the sound is so jarring you could punch a nun, your life is full of magic. Spectacular wonders are occurring inside and around you at every waking moment. Truly.

There is nothing bleh about life. You feel bleh because your awareness is not in the spectacular, it's in the wanting. So live the extraordinary life you're living. Like, really live it. Breathe it. Feel it. Taste it. Savor it.

The big life secret every future tripper is looking for is to simply allow yourself to feel the powerful magic that is in your life right now.  I

Listen to this episode to learn:

    • Why actively loving your life right now (even if you don't feel like you love it) is the ticket to the future you want
    • How to start having fun, even in a job you hate
    • Why your enthusiasm is your superpower, and how to use it
    • How to really feel into the present moment so you can magnetize more joyful moments into your life

My two affirmations from this episode (feel free to steal them!):

    • When I choose the fun, the fun chooses me
    • Money flows to me easily when I’m having fun

    Your homework:
As mentioned in the episode, I would love to hear what fun thing you saw, did, or experience(d) today. Send me a voice note, 60 seconds or less, about it on Instagram @untetheredjen or via email hello@jenliss.com

Hey there, achiever. This one's for you.

The power of shining your brightest light

The power of shining your brightest light

Moira from Schitt’s Creek was right: when one of us shines, all of us shine.

The more each of us is willing to step into our gifts, the more joy we feel. And even more than that, as we light up, we give permission for others to do it, too.

When you shine, it doesn’t steal someone else’s shine. This is a massive limitation so many of us are CHOOSING to live with. Put it down!

There is enough pie for everyone. And in fact, when you take your slice, it automatically refills. (Maybe the pie even becomes more delicious than it was before — so every new slice taken is more and more delicious.)

You can’t shine when you’re choosing to live tied down by your tethers. Which one can you let go of today?

Light up your purpose - with Kristin Svets

How do you find your purpose? Is there a yearning inside of you, but you can't put your finger on exactly what it is?

Kristin Svets is on the podcast today to guide you back to your inner light so you can finally step into your calling and live with purpose – in business and in life.

Kristin and I have a lot in common, from loving the color purple to being middle children, and as coaches who care a lot about you shining your magical unicorn light. This conversation spans many of our favorite topics on this podcast, including our least favorite tether that holds us back: judgment.

We also talk about being middle children, and the protection mechanisms we formed as to keep ourselves safe in childhood – but don't serve us as adults.

Finally, Kristin generously shares some great tools and strategies for using your breath to calm your nervous system.

Listen to this episode to hear:

    • How dimming your light does more harm than good
    • Why finding your purpose is meant to be more fun than we make it
    • What it really means when someone is judging you
    • How to make room for both your inner critic AND your dreams
    • How changing your actions by one degree can change the course of your life

    Find yourself in the stillness

    Find yourself in the stillness

Why do we fight so hard for our limitations?

This week, I reflect on a current experience where I'm getting to speak with hundreds of women as they made a decision about whether or not to join a coaching program.

My biggest takeaway is how hard we fight for our own limitations, and how little we fight for our own possibility.

It's wild, ya'll. It also made me think of what Philip Zave, aka PEZO the poet, said in Tuesday's episode about our identities. What I realized in talking to these individuals is that we fight SO hard for the current identity we have, and all of its baggage, when we could simply decide to drop this current identity and step into the calm stillness where we see endless possibility.

And guess what? This identity you're currently living with that feels so STUCK and so tethered to all these things you don't want? It's a figment of your imagination.

Much of your identity is something you craft for yourself, in your own mind.
Sure we use inputs, but many of those inputs are actually reflections of our own thoughts and feelings we project onto others. So, your identity is actually what you THINK others perceive you as.

Are you with me? Read that again.

Is your identity coming from your source, your soul, your highest wisdom, your sparkly radiance?

Or is it this funky false projection thing described above?

It's truly hard to witness people fighting for the identity that isn't serving their heart and soul. However, I also understand that change is absolutely terrifying. Stepping out of this identity we've lived with, often a disempowered identity, feels like climbing Mt. Everest.

What we don't realize is that stepping into something yummier is as easy as floating down a calm stream.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this one!

After listening to this episode, get still with yourself and ask:

    • What is there for me to learn right now?
    • What am I feeling, in my body, in this moment?
    • Is there anything that I can learn in this moment?
    • Am I thrashing or floating?
    • How might I float a bit more right now?

Get out of your mind and into your body

Get out of your mind and into your body

What the heck is embodiment, and why should you care about it anyway?

In this episode, I walk you through my personal journey of coming back into my body, why I did it, and how it can be transformative for those of us who have lived our lives "outside of our bodies" (hint: guilt or worrying about the judgment of others is an indicator!)

I also share the science behind why embodiment matters, particularly when it comes to making change in our lives in a way that sticks. A neuroscientist I've been working with says that 80% of the messages to your brain come from the neck-down!

Moreover, the vagus nerve, which carries sensory messages to and from our brain, has a major impact on our memory. And yet, most "mindset" work only focuses on the brain alone.  We house SO much physical and emotional memory in pieces of us that we don't ever associate with our brains!

So, basically, being embodied is really freaking important.

In this episode, I also walk you through an exercise that can help you to begin to gently come into your body through feeling joy. If you'd like the written instructions for how to do this Joy Expansion activity, you can get a free download by joining my email list at JenLiss.com

    Enjoy! XO

Surrender and receive – with Po-Hong Yu

Surrender and receive – with Po-Hong Yu

How do you let go and surrender so you can finally receive all of the magic, beauty, and abundance life has to offer?

Explore this question in today's episode, which – like today's guest – goes deep, real, raw, and a little irreverent.

We discuss the topics of  physical sex, sexuality, sexual trauma, and body awareness/consciousness in this episode. Please check in on and be aware of your individual resourcing, and take care and consideration into whether the content in this episode is supportive to you at this time.

In this conversation, Po-Hong Yu shares her journey that led her to become a healer, and how following a few tiny breadcrumbs led her to some big personal realizations. Today, she's dedicated her work to helping women get out of survival mode and into thriving mode through a process of healing, embodiment, expansion, and creation.

We talk about the importance of having compassion for yourself,  loving yourself in the present moment (even in your resistance!), and surrendering to what is.  As Po-Hong says, "Love is the alchemizing force."

Listen to this episode to learn:

    • Why so many of us have numbed ourselves out
    • How to start re-sensitizing ourselves safely
    • Why being "soft" is a power move
    • The importance of surrendering in receiving your desires

Mirroring exercise Po-Hong shares in the episode:

    • Stand in front of a mirror, and make eye contact with yourself.
    • Look at yourself as is you were your own lover.
    • As if you were your own best friend.
    • As if you were your own parent.
    • During each segment of the exercise, flow love onto yourself – and see if you can allow yourself to receive it back.

    Get to know Po-Hong Yu
Po-Hong Yu is a Spiritual Guide, Somatic & Energy Healer, Plant Medicine Facilitator, and Self Intimacy & Embodiment Teacher. Who are you being right now? And is this current beingness serving the shiny, beautiful person who you truly are in the here and now?

Look, I'm well aware that we are living scrapbooks of our past stories. This basic concept makes tons of scientific sense. Our previous experiences have shaped our current experiences. Former judgments, fears, beliefs, and traumas influence our minds, bodies, thoughts, behaviors. Former pleasures do the same.

But have you ever stopped to ask yourself, "What former truths are alive in me today that no longer serve me today?"

And have you ever stopped to ask yourself, "What former truths will no longer serve me where I'm going?"

I love these questions because they do several things:

    1. They invite curiosity
    2. They create space
    3. They remove judgment

When we separate our past experiences, our future experiences, and our current experience, we suddenly have an openness to explore. In this space, new possibilities have potential to take root.

This is how we begin to untangle, and eventually untether, from the things that are dulling our inner sparkle. I pose many questions in this episode that may be helpful in your personal exploration.

All of this becomes really important when we feel called to something more or different. Being entangled with the past makes it incredibly difficult to clearly see our way to something new. We can't see what we desire because we're so caught up in the muck. To further the problem, those past feelings are soooo accessible. It is easy to feel them. You've already felt them. You've got stories.  You've seen and felt some stuff, man.

On the other hand, it's waaaay less accessible to feel the future state. Right?

But what if you can shift that?

Try feeling the future in the now. You want to have a big, beautiful house with a mountain view and a big deck where you can sip a hot cup of coffee every morning while you read a few pages of the latest Colleen Hoover novel. Feel that experience.  Did you feel it? Now, wait 10 seconds.

Now, this amazing mountain-view-romance-novel-morning feeling is a delightful feeling of the past. Choose to feel this future feel again? Another past experience. Do it many moments of every day, and these start to stack. Eventually, you have a whole mind and body full of future feeling stories that have become not just the present but the past.

Get out of the past and into the now, and the past things naturally loosen their grip. This is how you untether from what you don't want, and align with what your current self is asking for, and begin to allow her to shine.

Be more authentically you – with Caroline McGrath

Be more authentically you – with Caroline McGrath

Are you afraid to be yourself? The most authentic, sparkly version of you – where is she? If she's hiding under a rock, afraid of what people might think of her if they really  knew who she was, this is an episode for you.

In this conversation with coach and therapist, Caroline McGrath, we delve into the real problems women face today but don't always talk about, like:

    • The societal pressures that force us to be someone we're not and hide our authentic selves
    • Why we care so much about what other people think, anyway
    • How to stop worrying about the judgment we could face by showing up as our truest selves
    • Mom guilt (and even "I don't want to be a mom" guilt)
    • The difference between therapy and coaching, and why there's space for both
    • How to finally put our baggage down once and for all

Caroline is a coach and therapist for teens and moms, and she is passionate about empowering people to break through their past conditioning to live more authentically.

Let go and let the magic in

Let go and let the magic in

You know you're capable of a more fulfilling life, but how do you actually make it happen?

In this episode, I get to the heart of what keeps so many of us stuck in a ho-hum existence – and what we need to do to call in the magic we know we're truly here to create.

Whether it's a more fulfilling role, starting to sell your art, learning a new instrument, or taking a stab at content creation, we can find ourselves trying so dang hard. To get it right. To get the sale. To get the likes.

At the same time, we're often controlling how much we allow ourselves to fully step into the creative process. So. Much. Control.

I've been flitting around in the personal development space for a long time. I've been a closet "self-fixer" for two decades, always looking to the solution that will finally fix my problems. That is, until someone helped me see clearly that the solution to everything was sitting right in my hands. All I needed to do was drop the rope.

Let go. Let love. Let magic roll in.

    Become untethered.

This is the true secret to bringing us hand-in-hand with all the things we truly desire.

    BIG NEWS, Untethered crew!
I've just opened the doors to my 2023 coaching program, Make This My Year. If you're ready to set down the rope and usher in the magical life  you know you're called to live, I'd love to have you there. You can learn more and enroll at JenLiss.com/MyYear
