Rebekah Armstrong: Head of Advocacy and Justice on Kiwi households reportedly spending $77 per week on goods linked to modern slavery

Electronics have been found to be the most likely product to come from modern slavery.

World Vision has found New Zealand households spend $77 per week on average on products implicated in modern slavery.

This includes clothing, toys, coffee, bananas, furniture, phones and laptops.

Head of Advocacy and Justice Rebekah Armstrong says EVs, e-bikes and solar panels are also impacted.

"It's really interesting that in the transition to cleaner energy, we're actually potentially using products that harm children and people in forced labour."

    # 13 - Grace Arach, Not for Profit Founder
Grace Arach shares with Emma her story of hope. Originally from Uganda and now living in Australia, Grace is a social worker who has also started a foundation to support people who have been through a similar experience to her own. Emma and Grace met through World Vision Australia when Grace was touring with "A Night of Hope" sharing her story of being a former child soldier in the Lord's Resistance Army. Bedo Ki Gen, Grace's Not For Profit Organisation, has been established to pick up where foreign aid left off – providing hope in practical ways to people who were abducted and traumatised by the LRA. Bedo Ki Gen means Living with Hope. Grace also loves to travel and has seen a fair bit of Australia and travelled to a number of other countries as a speaker with World Vision Australia. She loves her time off and shares some of her fun memories from those travels. We also discussed mental health in Australia and Uganda and the differences that Grace has experienced in the approach to support between these two countries. She's incredibly kind, generous, gracious and strong and we are so honoured to have Grace on the podcast sharing her story of hope.

    S2E6: Children of War - Grace's Story Part 2

This is Part 2 of a Two part Series with Grace Arach.

We continue where we left off chatting with Grace about how she managed to escape the Lord Resistance Army (LRA). After escaping, she found herself at the World Visions Children of War Rehabilitation Centre, where she began her healing journey that led to her being able to forgive the very man who abduct her when she was just 12 years old!

After escaping and spending time at the World Vision rehabilitation centre, Grace went on to volunteer at the centre and was able to reconnect with her family. And in 2009 Grace was named 'Ugandan Woman Achiever of the Year' for her strength in the face of adversity as well as her tireless work to support former child soldiers returning to their communities. Today Grace is a Social Worker in Australia and has founded a organisation called 'Bedo Ki Gen' which translates to "Living with Hope" - a organisation that provides ongoing support for returned child soldiers and their families.

I went to a Casting Crowns show last night. It was amazing. I had
never heard of them (I went to see the opening band), and they just
blew me away. Check out their latest CD from iTunes
    and AMAZON.COM

I've always thought about sponsoring a kid. In the end I never did. Well
its time. Sure its not in the budget, but just like having an actual kid, are you ever financially
    ready for a kid?

We get some feedback from some folks about quitting vs making wise decisions.

I also talk about some recent shows that I went to, and how they rocked.
