Hello its Peter here again from writers
life and today why you need to learn to
    write anywhere
here are some of the favorite excuses of
writers when trying to avoid getting to
work the house is too messy I'm too
tired I don't have enough time I'm too
stressed out I don't know where to start
my desk is too cluttered the laundry
I've got to do the laundry
any of them self familiar to you yeah I
thought so all writers go through
    periods of procrastination and we'll
find just about any excuse they can to
avoid sitting down and getting on with
their work the most common excuses find
a way to blame not having the perfect
writing conditions for without them how
could one possibly write write at the
end of the day unless you have the
luxury of being a full-time writer it
might be that you only get a few minutes
here and there it might be that you've
got to do it in a bit of a rush or that
you use your commute or that thirty
minutes when the kids have gone to bed
before you also need to crush out or
early in the morning when no one else
has gone up yet it would be wonderful to
just sit down in our perfectly setup
writing room where we have surrounded
ourselves with objects that inspire us a
freshly made pot of coffee by our side
and the knowledge that there will be no
interruptions for the rest of the day
but we've got to be realistic in short
we've got to learn to write anywhere
training yourself to focus and be
    productive for shorts irregular periods
of time can help you make so much more
progress with your writing and the
sooner you can adapt to working in less
    than perfect environments regardless of
    whether they are noisy
or follow interruptions the better as
with anything practice makes perfect and
to learn to write anywhere you have to
be willing to make an effort to
    consistently right in these inconvenient
    locations at these inconvenient times
and even when you really don't feel like
it if you keep waiting to be in the
perfect mood at the ideal time in the
ideal place chances are you won't get
very far with your writing at all no one
said it was easy we know it's a
    challenge trying to concentrate while
you've got kids screaming in the
background or you're hot and squashed on
    your commute to work
no one said it wouldn't be frustrating
to be interrupted when you've just got
into the writing zone but if you don't
try you might find that progress is so
slow you become even more demotivated
so next time you're finding excuses not
to write recognize them as just that
excuses treat writing like a job stop
waiting for the perfect mood and moment
and fit writing into your life
however messy or complicated it may be
and don't forget if it struggling to
    write or finish your book
our free writers toolkit can help with
it you'll learn how to overcome
    procrastination get organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published to get
access now while it's still available
    simply go to
    that's it for now

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello there it's Peter here again from
writers life coming up today how to
write multiple points of view writing a
book with multiple points of view is one
of the most challenging ways to tell a
story and requires doodling and bouncing
various personalities points of view and
motivations as well as the ability to
pull these together to create a
narrative that not only makes sense but
is compelling and read worthy - however
done right and using multiple points of
view can provide added layers of insight
and intrigue to a story they can be a
smart and insightful way to widen the
readers perspective and allow them to
get to know multiple characters in more
depth before you get started it's
essential to make sure that telling your
story from multiple points of view is
the right decision list the reasons why
your story will benefit from using this
narrative device and be clear on why
this will enhance your story for example
by giving your reader a broader insight
into the into the world you are creating
or allowing different secrets to come
    out through the different perspectives
giving the reader information that other
characters in the story do not have once
you have decided to go ahead and use
multiple points of view here are some
useful tips to ensure you make this as
effective as possible first be clear and
distinct when switching point of view
    there's nothing worse than confusing
your reader and the danger of doing so
is far greater when using multiple
points of view be very clear when you
are switching from the perspective of
one character to another only changing
when beginning a new chapter is usually
a more natural way to keep switches
    defined and easy to follow
next have distinct characters and voices
if you're using multiple points of view
make sure that they are all distinctive
and exciting enough to stand alone in
your story each character should have a
unique voice and personality that feels
utterly separate from the others and
next make everyone as important as each
other each point of view needs to come
from a character that's the hero of
their own story give equal importance to
each character and make sure that they
    all have their journeys struggles
    conflicts and obstacles to overcome
which make the reader interested in them
and want to hear more from their own
point of view next don't repeat the same
scenes over and over telling the same
scene from each character's point of
view runs the risk of boring your reader
and not allowing the story to move
forward of course there are times when
it is essential to reveal the same scene
    from a different characters perspective
but unless truly necessary to the plot
try to avoid this next plan plot and
have a good strategy there needs to be a
reason you are using a particular
character to reveal a specific scene ask
yourself why that character works best
to tell that part of the story what
insight they bring and make sure that
they are the best man all best woman for
the job planning how the points of view
will come together and which character
to use to tell which bit of the story
will make sure things don't get confused
and that there are no inconsistencies in
your story either writing from multiple
points of view is tough but done right
can be incredibly smart and a useful
device to intrigue your reader to bring
different levels to your story and to
give the reader a whole cast of
characters to fall in love with if
you're thinking of using multiple points
of view to tell a story remember to keep
your reader in mind and use these tips
to help ensure you're doing well
and don't forget if you're struggling to
write off an issue but our free writers
toolkit can help with it you'll learn
    how to overcome procrastination get
organized stay focused find time to
write and finally get your book
published to get access now while it's
    still available simply go to

hi I'm Jodi from writerslife.org today
we're going to be talking about how to
make your reader to care about your
story every writer knows that if your
reader doesn't care about your story
they won't enjoy your book no matter how
your book turns out what obstacles your
characters face or what lessons they
    learn without engaging your readers
    without keeping them emotionally
invested there's no way your readers
will carry on reading but how do you
make readers care about your story well
it's easier said than done well you
might think you have a great idea for a
book there are many elements necessary
in order to create a fantastic story and
each one must be executed in a way where
they all work together doing so will
make sure your book delivers an impact
and this will have your readers invested
in the plot the characters and the story
as a whole so what most authors do to
ensure their readers care here are some
things to think about your characters
the most important and obvious part of
your book is the characters you create
within it each character you introduce
the reader to must have a purpose but
more than this the characters must be
interesting and engaging so the readers
become curious about them and as the
story goes on your readers must care
about what happens to the characters you
create they don't have to love them all
they don't have to wish for them all to
have a happy ending but they must care
and be interested in the character so
they keep on reading to find out what
happens to them in the end it's your
world bring your characters and your
plots alight you must create a
    fascinating detailed and believable
world for your characters to live in the
world is your background but without
your readers feeling truly immersed in
it they'll find it distracting and
difficult to focus on anything else
making it hard for them to care about
your story as a whole your story if your
readers don't care about what is
happening in your book they won't want
to keep reading your characters can be
    the most intriguing engaging exciting
characters of all time but if you don't
make anything happen to them then your
    book will fall flat
make sure your story is full of highs
and lows unusual twists and turns
moments of joy and elation sadness and
fear your readers will want to come
along for the ride and be part of the
adventure so make sure there is one to
    be had you are ending
there is nothing more tragic than
getting to the end of a good story and
having the ending let you down make sure
your readers care up until the very last
word on the very last page so they are
left still reeling still overcome and
still totally in love with your book if
you're interested in learning more about

Hello there is Peter here again from
writers life with more tips and advice
for you and today how to promote your
writing on social media getting your
writing scene is one of the most
    significant problems writers base you
can be as talented and hardworking as
you like but without your writing
    reaching the right audiences it's
    challenging to become successful the
rise of social media is both a blessing
and a curse for writers never has there
been a greater opportunity to promote
your writing yourself but because of
this the competition is fiercer than
ever before so it's all too easy for
your writing however brilliant to get
lost amongst a sea of other voices all
clamoring to be heard understanding how
to leverage social media to your
advantage can be critical building a
following can menial work reaches your
target audience is shared by your fans
and reaches new audiences too but how do
you do it here are some useful tips
first join online communities about your
niche whatever you're writing about you
must have a target audience in mind so
find them and reach out to them you
could write about almost any topic and
    you're practically guaranteed there are
groups of people out there that have
    joined together to form communities
because they're interested in join those
    communities and become active ask
questions reach out to people and then
    occasionally
appropriate link back to your writing to
see if they'll take the bait next
scheduled posts in advance if you want
to use social media correctly you need
to get organized and be consistent don't
just randomly write a tweet or post a
Facebook post every once in a while
start to build up a bank of material
engage with your followers at least a
few times a week and schedule your posts
so they go out and consistent times this
way your audience will know when they
can expect new content from you a next
interact with others social media is all
about communicating if you want your
writing to do well you need to be
willing to put in some effort make sure
that you take time to build
    relationships with others comment and
like their work and be genuine and
honest if you only use social media to
    promote yourself and keep everything
    businesslike and transactional it'll be
harder to truly engage with people and
build a loyal following a next one right
    for publications right for publications
that already have a strong social media
presence despite doing all of these
things it can still be hard to build up
a following on social media so why not
take the shortcut interacts with other
    publications write guest posts and
promote them instead this way you're
giving back but the world will also be
avoiding looking like you all you want
to do is to promote yourself and get
exposed to more people while you're
writing so really you can't lose
    promoting your writing on
Emilia isn't rocket science however to
    do so successfully takes time
planning and effort use these tips to
boost your social media profile and help
make sure your writing reaches more of
the right people and don't forget if
you're struggling to write or finish
your book why not try our free write is

Hello there is peter here again from
writers life and coming up this time how
to boost your author profile like never
    before
    self-promotion doesn't come naturally to
many writers we are generally shy and
flighty creatures who spend much of our
time trying to prepare ourselves for
    rejection failure and all-encompassing
do why would we want to bring more
attention to ourselves when doing so not
only suggests we actually think that our
own work is good god forbid but also our
therefore opening up the possibility of
even more people being able to wade in
and tell us how we are wasting our time
and should definitely give up altogether
all with a heartbreaking dream crushing
grin on their faces the problem is
however that without the willingness to
self promote in this day and age your
    chances of furthering your writing
career are basically zero luckily there
is masses of information online and in
books about the different ways we can
promote ourselves as writers it's an art
really and one we must learn if we ought
to keep up building audience and
actually sell our work think of your
author platform as your new book take
your time to think about each and
everything you do you can't expect to
    create a fantastic author platform
overnight it takes time to build this
    opener to
thanks it but if you put the effort in
you'll see a dramatic difference in the
number of engagements you receive and
ultimately the number of readers who
will become loyal fans of your work
firstly be very clear about who you are
train to targets learn what your readers
want what they are interested in and how
they like to receive information think
about how you want your work to be
viewed and make sure you influence your
readers and direct them to this way of
    thinking your message should be
consistent you should have a voice and a
style that people can recognize as yours
make sure you keep tabs on where you're
being mentioned Google Alerts is a
simplest way to do this you can easily
set up several alerts such as your name
and book titles and keep track of when
and where you pop up online this way you
can see your author platform growing
before your very eyes make sure you
think people respond to them when they
mention you too and don't make it all
about me this is the golden rule when it
comes to social media use your platform
    to mostly share useful funny
    entertaining information and only
promote yourself and your work in
between this if you're writing a bunch
of useful articles that will interest
your audience then that's fine you're
sharing this information for free so
people will be glad of it if every
second tweet is a link to buy your book
however people will lose interest and
see you a socially selfish which is
never a good thing there's nothing wrong
with being a bit of a copycat take a
look at your competition writers in the
same field as you or authors you have
how do they handle their author platform
you can learn so much this way from what
kind of content you should be posting to
how frequently to the tone and style
that you should adopt be engaging
    responsive and most importantly yourself
people don't like fake whining all those
    who try too hard
authors are not brands they are people
and so should act like them fans of your
work will be interested in you and your
life and what you like to do in your
spare time so make sure you keep it
personal don't assume that no one cares
or wants to listen to what you have to
say spark conversations be friendly and
give something back people are sure to
respect you for that a little by little
this will help your author profile grow
and don't forget if you're struggling to
write or finish your book Alfre writer's

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello its Peter here a game from writers
life and coming up today how to choose a
name for your website every author has
been taught time and time again that
having a great website is essential a
site can be a useful platform to promote
your work to test your writing to gain
new readers and loyal fans and to sell
your books from - in short having a
website is imperative one of the most
important decisions you can make when
building your website is what you are
going to call it a strong domain name
speaks volumes and if you choose
battling you're stuck with it forever
will have to start from scratch what's
wrong so what do you need to consider
when choosing a domain name first
    simplicity and memorability one thing
that's very important to consider is how
to make your website name one that's
    easy to remember anything too
    complicated or convoluted and people
will forget it get it confused with
something else or just spell it wrong
and never be able to find it so choose
with care and try to keep it simple and
straightforward if he can next choosing
your own name many writers choose their
names their website name and this is
usually a safe option it makes sense
it's self promotional and will make it
easy for fans of your work to find you
of course it's possible your name will
already be taken in which case you may
have to add a number or a word into it
to make it unique choosing your name
also gives you freedom to make your
website about anything you want you can
adapt and change it depending on your in
in the future so if you're writing
changes direction then you won't have to
change your website just because of that
next the name that explains what it is
you might like to choose a domain name
that reveals more about the kind of
writing you are for example if you are a
copywriter you could pick something like
copywriting expert com or if you write
gothic novels you could pick something
like the gothic writer com this can be
helpful regarding your website coming up
    in search results more readily
however being this specific will make it
difficult if for example you decided to
start writing romance novels in the
future next a name that says something
about you you could also try to
incorporate a bit of personality into
your website name use a nickname or a
play on words or even a different
language if applicable this can be a way
of creating your unique name that shows
    you are smart and witty
however these kinds of domain names may
be more difficult to remember finding
the perfect domain name for your website
is well worth taking some time over do
some research to see what your
competitors have used take time to see
what popular sites your target audience
might be interesting in and then go from
there you can call your website
    absolutely anything but once you've
    decided you're stuck with it
so make sure it's a good one and don't
forget if it's struggling to write or
finish your book our free writers
    toolkit can help with it
    you'll learn how to overcome
    procrastination get organized stay
    focused
find time to write and finally get your
book published to get access now while
it's still available simply go to

Hello there is Peter here again from
writers life and coming up today the
best practice exercises to improve your
writing when it comes to writing
practice makes perfect and while it's
all well and good to write as much as
you can it's also well worth trying to
learn as much as possible about the art
of writing - most writers are
    self-taught and that's brilliant
but for those who want to take their
writing to the next level to experiment
or to learn about different writing
techniques and methods they need to sit
down read and learn and then try them
out for themselves so here are some of
the best practice exercises to try and
improve your writing a great way to
improve your writing is by editing
someone else's work it's all too easy to
get so caught up in our writing and not
see the mistakes or the places where the
prose could do with some improvement
editing other people's work trains us to
be able to spot these errors more easily
when we return to our own pieces we'll
be better able to weed out problems and
inaccuracies rewrite or extend a short
story find a short story that you love
this could be anything from a classic
fairy tale to one written by one of the
greats think about how you could rewrite
    it from a different characters
perspective or in a different setting or
certainly you could write about what
    happens next
extend the story while trying to emulate
the style and tone of the original
writer this will help you to think about
different points of view as well as
    learn about
for writers voices and see whether or
not you can emulate another writers
style or if your unique writing voice is
    too strong
next creates new connections we all need
to give our creative selves a boost from
time to time creating new connections
can do just that and inspire us with new
ideas for our work going forward to do
this write for headers on pieces of
paper people places things and themes
they write five things underneath each
    header for example Grandma Scotland
photographs love tear up the paper and
put all these in a hat and then pull out
    different mixes to create new
connections and see what inspires you to
expand next work out what works well
this exercise takes time it can help a
    writer genuinely understand what works
in a story take the top three
best-selling books in your genre and
read them as you do make a timeline of
the action then examine the characters
and how they develop and grow then study
the language they also uses my
descriptions and imagery and how they
manage to build the world of people
within them make as many notes as you
can and then compare the three pulling
out any similarities doing this will
help you get to the core of what makes a
story successful and you'll be able to
apply your newfound knowledge to your
    own work a next mind-mapping
and free writing sometimes the oldest
    techniques are the best
free-writing where you allow yourself to
write whatever is in your mind with
complete freedom can help you loosen
your creative cogs and give you new
ideas mind mapping where you start with
a central concepts or character and then
add different layers of detail branching
off from this can help you organize your
thoughts and come up with new avenues
that you may not have thought of
otherwise so they have it the next time
you feel as though your writing could do
with a bit of a boost or you're curious
    to learn something new
give these writing exercises ago and see
if they can help to make your writing
better easier and more interesting - and
don't forget if it's drawing to write or
finish your book our free rights as tool
kit can help with it you'll learn how to
    overcome procrastination get organized
stay focused find time to write and
finally get your book published to get
access now while it's still available
    simply go to
    and that's

it for now be sure to give us a thumbs

Hello it's peter here again from writers
life and today what makes someone
creative to be a successful writer one
    must be creative
creativity is at the core of what makes
writers able to conjure up worlds to
bring characters to life and to feed
their readers imaginations so that they
immerse themselves in the story that the
writer is telling them but what exactly
is creativity is it something that
people are born with do we all have it
but some find it easy to tap into their
creativity than others or can we learn
how to be creative even if we are not
just what is it that makes a person
creative here are some ideas being able
to use one's imagination when it comes
to writing there is a particular type of
creativity that helps what it really
boils down to is imagination if a writer
is able to vividly imagine that
characters and their worlds as if they
were real it makes it so much easier for
them to describe them to their readers
and next having the ability to think
freely being able to let one's thoughts
    flow without restriction is incredibly
helpful when it comes to creative
thinking writers need to be able to
    think creatively without interrupting
themselves they need to be allowed to
come up with ideas without self
sabotaging or being overly critical of
them they need time to let these ideas
develop to grow to build upon them and
explore freely in their minds where
their stories decide to take them next
having the ability to observe details
it's the smallest details that make
things come to life the way a person
arches their eyebrows or moves awkwardly
across a room the way a plastic bag
dances when it gets caught in the wind
or that exact shade of light I just
time of day a creative person notices
these details drinks them all in and
uses them to build their characters and
their worlds and make them vividly and
wonderfully come to be alive finding
beauty in everyday things is next good
writing does not always need to be
    dramatic or unusual sometimes simplicity
is best a creative person can observe an
    everyday situation and find something
beautiful in it they will pick that
moment that detail out and make their
readers pay attention to it so they see
the beauty - next finding the words a
creative writer not only does all of the
above but also has the ability to find
the exact words the phrases and the
sentences to capture it all -
translating for their readers so that
their readers see hear feel and sense
the very thing that they want them to
that is a skill that takes a long time
to master next they aren't afraid to try
something new every writer needs to take
risks from time to time and being brave
and allowing oneself to do so without
criticism is a creative skill without
    experimenting or pushing the boundaries
writers can't expect their writing to
develop or to learn new skills so having
the courage to do so is very important
    creative people are expressive
    eagle-eyed experimental and courageous
and being creative is essential if you
want to write do you feel as though you
could do more to nurture your creative
self try to do more of these things and
you'll see your creativity saw and don't
forget if you're struggling to write or
finish your book our free writers
toolkit can help with it you'll learn
    how to overcome procrastination get
    organized
stay focused find time to write and
    finally get your book

    available simply go to

Hello it's Peter here again from writerslife.org
and today we're going to talk about how
to avoid writing cliches it can be
pretty tough to write an entire novel
    without slipping into certain cliches
however there's not much that will turn
your reader off faster cliches tend to
interrupt the flow of the story and show
an absolute lack of imagination and
creativity from the writer if you are
trying to get a publishing deal and your
book is full of cliches not only in your
writing but also using a cliched an idea
no publisher is going to bind it's not
easy to avoid writing cliches altogether
and often we use them without even
noticing we're doing it so how can we
weed them out or better still prevent
them entirely here are some useful tips
first don't steal other writers ideas
some plots have just been done to death
and they have been written and rewritten
so many times it's almost impossible to
avoid falling into the trap of a cliche
if you choose to focus your story around
them when writing a book your idea needs
to be unique make publishers editors and
most importantly your readers sit up and
take notice of something that hasn't
been done before next avoid being overly
sensational there is a myriad of moving
subjects to choose from when writing a
book and lots of great books have murder
car crashes bombs going off Wars descent
into madness and so on as part of their
    plots
    however these sensational subjects can
be challenging to write without falling
into cliches this doesn't mean you can't
    tell stories that include
these elements but what do you do pay
    attention pay particular attention to
your writing and be alert for any
cliches that may appear and next make
the ordinary extraordinary one good way
of avoiding cliched writing is by
    turning everyday events and occurrences
it's a beautiful you need unusual
    life-changing adventures it's more of a
challenge but by focusing on smaller
more unusual things that happen in
everyday life or taking something that
we are all familiar with yet making it
    suddenly breathtaking or extraordinary
is a great skill to have as a writer and
next tell your story the way you want to
no one can tell your story or share your
experiences the way you do if you
continue to write cliches it suggests
that you are not being honest with
yourself you have a unique perspective
and an original voice tap into that use
it instead of borrowing from others or
retelling a story that wasn't yours to
tell in the first place and next be
    authentic cliched writing often becomes
that way because it's not true to real
life try to avoid injecting your book
with melodrama when it's not necessary
you'll only end up creating a story that
doesn't resonate with an audience and
    lacks the authenticity necessary to
connect with your readers by using these
tips you can eliminate cliches from your
    writing and create powerfully original
    stories that really are entirely
different than anything else and don't
forget if you're struggling to write or
finish your book our free writers
toolkit can help with it you'll learn
    how to overcome procrastination
yet organized stay focused find time to

Hello there is Peter here again from
writers life of coming up today
fantastic tips to make a kick-ass author
website and all the website is an
    essential platform from which writers
can promote their work here's how to
make yours stand out first keep it
simple don't overly complicate things if
you want very computer savvy creating an
    author website might seem complicated
but it doesn't have to be your author
website doesn't have to be all singing
or dancing but it does need a few
separate pages some nice images to break
up the text and be creative and exciting
enough to attract visitors next have a
diverse content don't make your website
merely another place from where people
can buy your book make it worth readers
while to return again and again release
    chapter samples write entertaining
blocks keep them updated on new projects
engage and involve them by asking for
their opinions make it easy for them to
leave comments and contacts you to have
a theme is next your website should have
a theme that reflects the writing you do
whether you write thrilling crime and
    mystery novels or deliciously decent
romance books everything from the colors
to the font to the content you write
should be carefully thought out so they
complement the theme of your website and
    the genre you writing
our next make it personal readers aren't
just interested in your writing they are
also interested in you too so make sure
you don't put up barriers or make

Hello its Peter here again from
WritersLife.org and coming up today five
tips to create a brilliant novel degrees
a brilliant novel you need to tell a
brilliant story it really is as simple
as that but how I can hear you cry
telling a great story comes down to five
simple rules if you follow these there
is no reason why your story won't be
considered fantastic and we are talking
    about the opinions of prospective
publishers and agents not just your
grammar so how do you create a brilliant
novel one which is fast paced moving and
original you need to show a publisher
that you have knowledge that you have
authority and an understanding of what
your audience wants if you can do this
successfully you are sure to impress so
here are five great tips to help you on
    your way
tip number one make your story a sense
sensation your characters need to be
    believable and engaging your
descriptions need to be delightful and
imaginative the five senses play a
crucial part in involving your audience
in your story giving it texture and
depth we want to see what they see hear
what they hear feel what they feel if
you omit this from your story it will
fall flat and our next tip is be odd
    erratic haunting and idiosyncratic to
    create believable and interesting
characters they need to behave a certain
    way simple straightforward characters
    who look nice and
nice and say nice things are only useful
in your story if they are there to
    create a stark contrast between
    themselves and other more important
characters in your book make your
    characters irrational give them unusual
appearances quirks tics hobbies but do
it softly your readers need to
    understand your character's motivation
for behaving in the ways that they do
they like weird but they will want to
understand why it is easy to emphasize
with people's irrational behavior we all
act like this from time to time so make
sure you allow your characters to do so
too otherwise they may well come across
as rather dull tip number three be free
one of the greatest difficulties writers
    face is themselves
we are obstructive negative and often
downright cruel to create a brilliant
novel you need to free yourself from
yourself allow yourself to explore scary
sad mad parts of your own being really
getting there go deep and inspect all
the ugly things that you don't like to
show to anyone else then use them if you
are daring in your writing it will be
exciting if you are honest with your
    feelings
it can lead to some uncomfortable
moments but if you channel it all into
your writing and refuse to be
    self-conscious or restrained then you
can produce some great content and next
be clever if you have an idea for a
    story that is complicated and
intelligent don't shy away from it
because you are worried it won't appeal
to a mass-market the truth is that most
avid readers are educated and affluent
and these people are more likely to buy
a book that appeals to their Intel
Agence a publisher is far more likely to
be excited about a book that presents a
    clever idea
rather than one that is clearly dumbed
down simply to try and appeal to the
    lowest common denominator don't insult
    your readers don't underestimate them
people like to be challenged they like
to escape resist the need to over
    explain everything
it makes for awkward and slow prose use
    your words carefully and selectively
to portray what you mean and have faith
that your readers will get it and number
five make them laugh and make them cry
one of the most important things to
achieve when creating a great novel is
getting your reaction from your reader
your book should make them feel
something if you are writing a funny
story then aim to make your readers not
just smile or half chuckle but bend over
in gasping and embarrassing hysterics on
the train if your story is sad for yes.i
or solitary tear have them sobbing
snotty and heartbroken if you can evoke
your design response from the reader
you're doing something right if you can
make them both laugh and cry you are on
to a winner agents and editors are
highly skilled when it comes to seeing
the weaknesses in a story but they will
also forgive many flaws if an author
shows bravery and skill follow the tips
which I've given you here to engage your
audience to be true to yourself and
hopefully creates a brilliant novel in
the process and don't forget if you're
struggling to write or finish your book
our free writers toolkit can help with
it you'll learn how to overcome
    procrastination get organized stay
focused find time to write and finally
get your book published to get access
now while it's still available simply go

    it for now
my name is Peter and I'll see you next
    time bye for now

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello there is Peter here again from
WritersLife.org and coming up today five
things you didn't know about being a
freelance writer you may think that
being a freelance writer is a bit of a
doddle you imagine endless days of
sitting in coffee shops typing away on
your laptop without a care in the world
while watching the big books roll in
however this is rarely the case being a
freelance writer or rather being a good
freelance writer as with any job
requires hard work dedication and a
whole lot of effort similarly there is
no need to be put off by the idea scare
stories of over where writers constantly
struggling to meet deadlines and never
see in the light of day as they try and
scrape enough money together to keep a
roof over their heads while being
shouted up by editors every minute of
every day is equally unrealistic the
fact is providing you are willing to
work with it and hone your craft there
is no reason why you can't become a
successful writer and reap all the
rewards that go with it so what is the
middle ground what is it really like to
be a freelance writer can you achieve a
work/life balance can you really make a
decent living well yes of course you can
but before you decide let's look at some
of the common assumptions so you can see
if being a freelance writer is really
for you first you don't have to get
    dressed all day
so if you are working from home most of
the time you may feel there's no reason
to do anything other than start your
working day by reaching for your laptop
in bed and beginning to write you are
your own boss after all so the dress
code is up to you however if you want to
take your job seriously then it's a good
idea to treat it like one that means
    getting up getting dressed okay
so you don't have to put a suit and pack
your briefcase but some clothes that
aren't pajamas will help and sitting in
a work ready space before you begin you
are a professional and should act by one
motivating yourself to do a great job
and work productively is going to be
tough if you can't even be bothered to
get out of bed and next you'll be rich
as with any career some people become
hugely successful others fail and fall
into debt but for the majority of us
there tends to be a ratio the more time
and effort we put in the better we'll do
you can't exactly work your way up the
ladder or decide to give yourself a
massive pay rise but you can spend time
learning how to write effectively find
your niche and become an authority on
something build up your experience and
slowly but surely you'll be able to
pitch for bigger more lucrative jobs
feel confident in your value become a
    good negotiator
and that's when you'll start to see the
    financial rewards
you'll be stress-free so you are working
for yourself which effectively means you
don't have a boss that can dump a load
of work on you right before you go on
holiday and shout to you for taking a
longer lunch break then you're supposed
to however working for yourself has his
own precious and if you are a freelancer
you'll have clients clients who you work
for who are paying you to do a good job
and do it on time if you don't do this
not only will the stress of your
    workload become unmanageable
you'll lose clients and get a bad name
in the industry too next you can do what
you want when you want freelancing does
bring with it a certain flexibility but
if this is your full-time job you can't
just pick and choose a few convenient
hours every week when you're feeling at
your most creative you'll have deadlines
you'll want great jobs that mean working
all the hours that God sends for a while
and you'll have up the evenings and
weekends where you've got to make up for
the times you weren't being quite so
    productive suddenly instead of working
Monday to Friday and getting nice paid
holidays you've got to manage all your
own time and if you choose not to work
you don't make any money so the pressure
to do so will be all the more constant
and next it won't feel like work doing
something you love is amazing and a
privilege so if you're a successful
freelance writer and it's what you want
to do then you will enjoy your work and
get great satisfaction from doing it it
is however still work and when you have
been typing in your laptop for 6 hours
    straight
it will definitely feel that way to
remember that going freelance isn't just
    about
writing you've got to constantly pitch
for jobs do research send invoices chase
invoices do your tax returns and keep
track of every single piece of work
you've got to get done and when you are
your own boss but you are also your
    accountant admin assistant and HR
manager so you better be prepared for
that being a freelance writer is hard
    you've got to love it
you've got to work at it and you've got
to be realistic about it if you can do
all that then it can be a wonderfully
rewarding career and don't forget if
you're struggling to write or finish
your book our free writers toolkit can
help with it you'll learn how to
    overcome procrastination get organized

Hello there it's Peter here again from
WritersLife.org and today why you must be
    patient
it's easy to fall victim of looking at
other people's success and wishing you
were then when this happens you won't
    get far
you spend your time looking at other
people's success and by default you will
neglect your own when you ponder on
other people's success you forget that
it didn't happen overnight the person
you're looking at took years and years
to become successful you're only looking
at the finished product it's easy to
look at the finished product because
it's still shining will aspire to become
the finished product but we forget what
it takes to get there all the trial and
error that goes into becoming a finished
product ceases to exist in our minds you
will not become the finished shining
    product overnight when you're starting
on the journey of success learn the art
of being patient when you become patient
you will not give up at the first sight
of failure you understand that failure
is part of the process when others
desire success right away when they
can't achieve it they give up you won't
be one of those people you understand
that if you're patient eventually you'll
    achieve your desired success patients
will play a virtue on your journey when
your patient not a lot will affect you
you're able to withstand more than the
average person when others complain you
keep taking massive action you don't let
excuses stand in the way of where you
want to go you know excuses are just
another obstacle you need to overcome
patience leads you to a more fulfilling
life you don't put this unnecessary
    pressure on your
to succeed right away instead you take
your time you put in a daily grind
knowing that with each step you'll get
to where you want to go when your
    patience you'll become successful maybe
not right now but over time and don't
forget if you're struggling to write or
finish your book our free writers
toolkit can help with it you'll learn
    how to overcome procrastination yet

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi I'm Jody from WritersLife.org and
today we'll be talking about how a book
gets published the basics of how a book
that's published please note that this
refers to mainstream publishing and not
    self-publishing which is something else
    entirely
but most of the books you see in
bookstores happen this way for a
    first-time author a book generally
starts with a completely finished and
    polished manuscript for fiction and
memoirs in a proposal and a sample page
for nonfiction yes novelist you have to
write the whole thing published authors
can sometimes sell novels on proposal
it's then generally advisable for an
unpublished author to find a literary
agents very few publishers these days
accept submissions from uh nogen tada
and a good agent can give a project a
better chance at succeeding and will
usually be able to negotiate a better
deal than the author would be able to
achieve on their own once an agent has
taken on a project they then send it to
one or more editors at different
    publishing houses the agent will
    specifically target the submission to
the editors that they feel are most
appropriate for the book the editors
take a look at the project and if it's
something they are interested in they
will share it with your colleagues and
bosses to gauge enthusiasm once the
editor has to go ahead to move forward
with the project they will send the
agent and offer the submission process
can take anywhere from a week to a year
or more depending on when or if the
agent finds a match for the project an
    author usually includes an advance
    royalties territory and other specific
terms sometimes the offer will be for
one book or sometimes it will be for
multiple books if more than one editor
is interested there might be an option
to determine which publisher will make
the best offer when the deal points have
been agreed upon and the author accepts
an offer the publisher will then send a
contract which the agent or the agency's
    contracts director will negotiate after
the contract is in sight if the project
was sold on proposal it's then time for
the author to write the book once the
    manuscript is completed for nonfiction
or after the contract is signed for
fiction the auditor will usually send an
    editorial letter see
justing content changes that the author
will then make these changes are
somewhat negotiable but for the most
part authors will follow their editors
suggestions when the changes have been
made and the manuscript is deem
editorially acceptable it moves to copy
editing where typos and other errors are
corrected and designed as it will look
on the page the author has to review the
    different versions of the completed
manuscripts to catch typos the publisher
is also working during this time on the
design of the book including the cover
trim size paper size and other design
    considerations meanwhile the editor is
    coordinating with their marketing and
sales teams to write copy for the
    publisher seasonal catalog write the
    jacket copy to hopefully generate
enthusiasm among the sales team for the
project and to help shape the marketing
plans several months before the book's
publication the sales team will be
    coordinating with bookstore buyers and
other accounts as they place their
orders which helps determine how many
copies of the book the publisher prints
the agent usually keeps tabs on this
process to make sure everything is
    happening according to plan the
    publication process from finished
manuscript to in books or books usually
takes a year or more can occasionally be
compressed if it is an especially timely
project but the process usually requires
quite a bit of lead time when
publication date arrives the book goes
on sale and the author is rich and
    famous beyond their wildest dreams
sometimes not usually the author then
gets cracking on their next book or
rather they should already have been
cracking and the process repeats the end
    don't forget if you're having a hard
time reading or finishing your book
