So far, that sounds like a relatively common scenario, but what is special about this project is its rigorous pursuit of a circular system based on a zero-waste approach. Almost all of the finishing materials and fittings—down to handles and window sashes—are reused items, primarily materials formerly used at this factory facility. Unlike designs that merely mimic the vintage look of an abandoned building, the power of this place lies in its composition of items with real memories attached to them, making it unique in design terms. As well as being a trial for a fully fledged zero-emissions initiative, it achieves a high standard as a design.
