Water Flows from the Rock - The Book of Numbers

Water Flows from the Rock - The Book of Numbers

In this Bible Story, Moses grows angry against the people of Israel. Their constant complaints and groans sparked anger in Moses, and his rage inhibits him from being able to see the promised land. This story is inspired by Numbers 20-21. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.

Today's Bible verse is Numbers 20:11 from the King James Version.

Episode 47: Hungry and thirsty, the people complain once again that it would have been better for them to die in Egypt instead of being thirsty in the desert. So God listened compassionately and asked Moses and Aaron to show His love to Israel by speaking to a rock in front of the people causing water to flow from it. But in his anger, Moses decides to do things his own way, and for this, he is banished from ever entering the promised land.

    1 Samuel 28-31, Psalm 18 | I See Dead People

    1 Samuel 28-31, Psalm 18 | I See Dead People

Thanks for listening. Please leave us a review HERE.

In these chapters, Saul, the first king of Israel, is faced with impending war against the Philistines. He seeks guidance from God, but receives no answer. In desperation, he visits a medium and asks her to summon the spirit of the prophet Samuel, who had died. Samuel's spirit is summoned and predicts Saul's defeat and death in battle. Saul and his sons are indeed killed in the battle, and the Philistines display their bodies on the wall of a city.

Chapter 28 describes the desperate situation that King Saul finds himself in as he prepares to go to war against the Philistines. Saul is afraid and unsure of what to do, so he seeks guidance from God. However, God remains silent and does not answer Saul's prayers. In his desperation, Saul turns to a medium to summon the spirit of the prophet Samuel. This is significant because it goes against God's commandments to consult with mediums and spiritists (Leviticus 19:31, 20:6).

In  chapter 29, the Philistines prepare for war against Israel. David, who has been living with the Philistines for a time, has been drafted to fight alongside them. However, the Philistine commanders do not trust David and send him back to his camp. As a result, David and his men are spared from having to fight against their own people.

In chapter 30, David and his men return to their home base of Ziklag to find that it has been raided and burned down by the Amalekites. Their families have been taken captive, and David's men are so distraught that they talk of stoning him. David seeks God's guidance and receives assurance that he will be able to rescue their families. David and his men pursue the Amalekites, and with God's help, they are able to defeat them and recover their families and possessions.

Chapter 31 describes the battle between the Israelites and the Philistines. Saul and his sons are among the casualties, and the Philistines decapitate Saul's body and put it on display. The chapter ends on a somber note, with the people of Israel mourning the loss of their king and soldiers.

These chapters depict a series of desperate situations for the characters involved. The chapters also highlight the theme of God's sovereignty, with God's will ultimately prevailing despite the actions of humans.

Psalm 18 is a song of praise and thanksgiving to God for delivering the psalmist, David, from his enemies. David recounts how he called on God for help and was rescued from the hands of his enemies. He describes God as his rock, his fortress, and his deliverer. The psalmist then reflects on God's power and majesty, and how God had helped him overcome his enemies. The psalm ends

David in Ziklag - The Book of 1 Samuel

David in Ziklag - The Book of 1 Samuel

In this Bible Story, the Philistine horde rises up against Israel. David continues to wrestle with his alliances. While Saul, now living apart from the spirit of God, turns to dark arts to settle his weary and restless soul. This story is inspired by 1 Samuel 27. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.

Today's Bible verse is 1 Samuel 27:7 from the King James Version.

Episode 93: David, still playing the role of a Philistine marauder in Ziklag, found himself in the camp of the enemy as they were marching up against Israel. But the lords of the Philistines disapproved of this and petitioned Achish to send him and his men away. God kept David from killing his brethren that day, but when they returned to Ziklag, they found that the Amalekites had raided their city and taken their wives and children. So David sought God and pursued the Amalekites to overtake them, bringing back their wives and children. God gave them favor, and the women, children, livestock, and goods were saved! David got his first true taste of what it meant to be king.

JERUBBAAL: The Bible's Nickname for Gideon Has Been Unearthed! Prof. Yosef Garfinkel Explains

JERUBBAAL: The Bible's Nickname for Gideon Has Been Unearthed! Prof. Yosef Garfinkel Explains

In this episode, Jeff talks to Prof. Yosef Garfinkel, Head of the Institute of Archaeology at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem about the inscription unearthed in 2019 while he and his team were excavating ancient Ziklag. Scholars agree that the inscription reads "Jerubbaal", the nickname the Bible gives Gideon in the book of Judges:

'So because Gideon broke down Baal’s altar, they gave him the name Jerub-Baal that day, saying, “Let Baal contend with him”' (Judges 6:32).

But how sure can we be that the inscription is referring to Gideon? And how exactly did Prof. Garfinkel's hard-working team unearth this intriguing find?

ZIKLAG FOUND: Archaeologist Talks About Unearthing the Philistine City Given to King David

ZIKLAG FOUND: Archaeologist Talks About Unearthing the Philistine City Given to King David

In this episode of "Keeping it Israel" Jeff talks to Prof. Yosef Garfinkel, Head of the Institute of Archaeology at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem about what he's discovered in the 5 years he's been excavating at Khirbet al-Ra'i. According to Yossi, the site is ancient, Ziklag, found exactly as described in the Bible. The finds there are consistent with the Bible story about King David and his complicated interactions with the Philistines. From 2007-2013, Yossi excavated Khirbet Qeiyafa and discovered a fortress dating to the time of King David (1000 BCE), overlooking the valley where the bible says David slew the Giant Philistine, Goliath. There, among other incredible finds, he unearthed an inscription that is possibly the earliest Hebrew inscription known. According to Yossi, the Bible story about King David and the Philistine giant Goliath is not as far-fetched as some might think.

2020 – A Time of Danger, Decisions and Destiny

2020 – A Time of Danger, Decisions and Destiny

2020 will go down in history as a time of danger. It will also be remembered as a time when we made decisions that will shape our destiny as individuals, households and as a nation for years, decades and generations to come. Let me say that again, 2020 is a year that will set the course of our destiny as individuals, households and as a nation for years, decades and generations to come.

In this pivotal year, as a Christian, I believe that it is essential that we look beyond the media, beyond the political voices, beyond our own private opinions and prejudices.  As we search for meaning and resolution to this season of COVID-19, social upheaval and political antagonism, it is vital that we look to Scripture for answers.  It is also essential to listen to the voice of Holy Spirit for direction, correction and encouragement in this trying and uncertain time.

John 16:13 in the Amplified tells us….

But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father—the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future].

As I have studied Scripture and listened for the voice of Holy Spirit regarding the truth about this time and season, I have been drawn to the story of David the future King of Israel especially the portion of that story that begins in in 1 Samuel, Chapter 27. I believe there are parallels to be observed and lessons to be learned from this study that apply to this present time and our current circumstances.

Assumptions Can Be Dangerous - Admonition 267

Assumptions Can Be Dangerous - Admonition 267

2 Samuel 4:9-11 But David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, "As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my life from all adversity, when someone told me, saying, 'Look, Saul is dead,' thinking to have brought good news, I arrested him and had him executed in Ziklag-the one who thought I would give him a reward for his news. How much more, when wicked men have killed a righteous person in his own house on his bed? Therefore, shall I not now require his blood at your hand and remove you from the earth?"

    Transcript:

And now, Admonition, brought to you by the Collierville Church of Christ.

Assumptions are a dangerous thing. In Second Samuel Chapter 4, two men kill Saul's son who has taken the throne of Israel, and they bring his head to David thinking because he's David's enemy, David will reward them. They assumed wrong. We read in second Samuel, Chapter four,

As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from all adversity. When someone told me saying, Look, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good news, I arrested him and had him executed in Ziklag, the one who thought I would give him a reward for his news.

How much more when wicked men have killed a righteous person in his own house on his own bed. Therefore, shall I now require his blood at your hand and remove you from the earth?

Assumptions caused these two men to die. Be careful of your assumptions.
