    When we're doing things because... well, we've always done them. 

    Our minds can end up on autopilot A LOT if we're not paying attention. 

    And so often, our minds on autopilot tend to create a lot of negative thoughts. 

    In this meditation, I'll guide you through a visualization experience to help recognize some of those paths you take yourself on without realizing it and we'll review what to do to create new, more helpful thought paths for ourselves.

    People tend to think that meditation is about controlling or changing what they are thinking... and it's actually quite the opposite. 

    In this new series, I'll be using meditations to share some of the foundational elements of this practice. Every Monday for the next 4 weeks, the meditation I share will be focused on introducing another foundational part of the meditation practice.

    Slow Down the Overthinking Mind

    I have felt it too, my friend... the ruminating thoughts, the anxious negative thought spiral, the loud inner critic...

    Our minds are capable of incredible things and can also create the thoughts that become the cause of our anxieties. When we spend so much time thinking, we can easily create patterns that no longer serve us.

    We have to remember we can slow down the mind and influence these recycled thoughts.

    This meditation will help you come back to the present moment, reconnect with your breath, and slow down the overthinking mind.

    Sometimes illness can be our body's way of communicating that we need rest.

    That's been the case for me this week and as difficult as it's been to heal, it's been a powerful reminder of just how good rest can feel.

    When we experience feelings like insecurity and sadness, we tend to want to quickly fix them. Like they are 'bad' feelings and we need to get rid of them as quickly as possible. 

    What if instead you sat with the pain and held your tender heart?

    What if that might feel different or lead to more compassion and understanding toward yourself? Maybe in order to feel something different, you need to try doing something different.

    How often do you feel a rush to get to the next point in your life or fast forward to a future state?

    I don't know about you, but when I feel that way, it's exhausting. 

    This meditation is for those times. When the weight of wanting to be somewhere or someone else and the heaviness of feeling behind sets in.

    You are right on time. There is no rush. You are exactly where you need to be.
