    Podcast Summary

    • Become an observer to manage emotionsObserving thoughts, emotions, and reactions helps respond calmly and effectively, instead of reacting impulsively

Practicing being an observer can help manage emotions and remain calm in various situations. According to Michael Singer's book "Living Untethered," becoming an observer to what's happening around us and within us allows us to see things more objectively and shift our perspective. This analogy suggests that we are like viewers watching a TV show, recognizing that the events in front of us are not entirely under our control. By observing our thoughts, emotions, and reactions, we can respond more calmly and effectively, rather than taking things personally and reacting impulsively. A personal example given was during an argument with a loved one, where instead of reacting defensively, the observer perspective helped to understand their emotions and respond in a calmer manner.

    • Explore mindfulness and positivityPractice mindfulness, observe surroundings, delve deeper into personal positivities, learn from experts, engage in mindful activities, stay connected through social media, and remember 'You have 100% got this'.

Practicing mindfulness and being present in the moment can bring about positive experiences. The speaker encourages listeners to observe their surroundings and emotions, and to delve deeper into their personal likes and positivities. For those in the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet Store area, the Food For Thoughts Wellness Festival offers opportunities to learn from experts and engage in mindful activities like coloring. For those unable to attend, the speaker's Instagram account provides a platform for staying connected. Ultimately, the message is one of encouragement and self-empowerment: "You have 100% got this."

Dr. Michael Gervais Is The Sensei of Human Performance
How do world-class athletes, artists and top business leaders organize their inner lives to expand the edges of their potential? What are the frameworks and key mental skills needed to excel in those intense, all or nothing make-it-or break it moments? How do change-makers find peace, grounding, and even joy in the most intensely stressful, critical moments of their lives and careers? There is no human more well-suited to fielding these questions than world-renown high performance psychologist Dr. Michael Gervais -- returning for his 4th appearance on the podcast. A globally recognized authority on optimal human performance, Dr. Gervais has spent the last twenty years working in the trenches of consequential, high-stakes environments, where there is no luxury for mistakes, hesitation, or failure to respond. His clientele includes the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, countless Olympic medalists, MVPs from every major sport, world record holders, internationally acclaimed music artists, and corporate leaders. In addition, Dr. Gervais is the host of the popular Finding Mastery podcast. Alongside NFL coach Pete Carroll he founded Compete To Create, an online and live master class for the mind, and together they authored the recently released Audible Original also entitled Compete To Create -- a must-listen for anyone interested in raising the bar on their own potential. There's a reason he's been featured by NBC, ABC, FOX, CNN, ESPN, NFL Network, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Outside Magazine, WIRED, ESPN Magazine, the Harvard Business Review and more:  Dr. Gervais is the sensei of human performance optimization. Unlike our previous episodes, today’s exchange is not about elite athletic performance. Nor is it about the demands of jumping out of a plane without a parachute. In fact, it's not really about sport at all. Instead, this is a conversation about how best to navigate the cataclysmic shit show we call 2020 -- and the years of political, pandemic and planetary turmoil likely to follow. It's about understanding trauma. Accepting pain. Working through it. And how suffering is integral to the human experience. It’s about the difference between purpose and vision. The role of sport in a world that's closed for business. And the importance of optimism in dark times. If you're new to the show, you're in for a treat. I adore this man. So prepare to fall in love. The visually inclined can watch our exchange on YouTube. And as always, the podcast streams wild and free on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. If you enjoy today's conversation, you might also dig Michael interviewing me in the most recent Finding Mastery episode (FM #244). And you can mine his three previous appearances on the RRP (episodes 120, 252, and 366). It’s hard being a human in 2020. Don’t underestimate the circumstances -- but know there is a light out there. Let's find it together. Peace + Plants, Rich

How to Deal With & Overcome Trauma with Ryan Pinnick

How to Deal With & Overcome Trauma with Ryan Pinnick

Ryan Pinnick joins Rob in this episode to discuss his past trauma as well as his beliefs and philosophies. This is an experimental episode of Disruptors, full of raw, philosophical and authentic content, not to be missed!

Ryan is the CEO of SuperGenius and has a tremendous passion for applying Superconsciousness in Life Mastery and Entrepreneurship.

Born in Cape Town, South Africa he moved to London in 2000 as an electrical engineer. Having had a traumatic childhood as a result of his abusive alcoholic father and sexual violence as a young adult, he failed to deal with the challenges he faced and he tried to suppress his demons with alcoholism and recreational drug addiction. At 26 he started his recovery and healing which lead him to the world of personal development entrepreneurship.

During that journey he was introduced to what he now calls Superconsciousness and this was for him the key to creating a life beyond his wildest dreams.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Rob has been really keen to talk to Ryan about the paradox of trauma.
    • Trauma can ruin a person, yet if you look at almost every successful person alive they have had to deal with adversities and trauma to become successful.
    • You can put people under pressure but if they don’t have the right tools to deal with it they will break and suffer.
    • Ryan is a great believer of support systems; he believes they can help any person deal with the difficulties and challenges we have to face in life.
    • A polarising view Ryan holds, is that you attract everything in your human life, good or bad.
    • We all have a sequence of steps to self-sabotage ourselves subconsciously, we have to become conscious to become true masters in our own lives or we will continue to repeat the same behaviour again and again.
    • Ryan has had to deal with a lot of trauma in his life, he is incredibly brave to be so open about the extreme difficulties he has had to face and to then use it to inspire others is incredible.
    • One thing you can do to help yourself overcome yourself, is to find people you aspire to be like.
    • We all have emotions that come to the surface preventing us to be ourselves.
    • Podcasting, like all forms of content creation entails putting yourself out there. But you will learn from the mistakes, the embarrassing moments more than you will from the ‘good’ content; the bad times will be the stories you tell.
    • Ultimately shame is what we fear other people will think about us.
    • Through criticisms and negative feedback we get given an opportunity, to evaluate and decide whether to change what it is we are doing.
