    • Growing up around law enforcement and an early interest in death led Kathleen Vernon to a career as a coroner. An unconventional upbringing and unique interests can lead individuals towards rewarding and unexpected careers.

Curiosity and a unique upbringing can lead individuals towards unconventional careers. In the case of Kathleen Vernon, growing up surrounded by law enforcement professionals and showing an early interest in death led her to a successful career as a coroner. However, the circumstances surrounding her discovery of a man's death and his unusual cause led her to an unexpected and chilling realization. The man had been consuming antifreeze to prevent hypothermia, leading to ethylene glycol crystals forming in his kidneys. While this may seem like an unusual occurrence, Kathleen's background and upbringing allowed her to approach the situation with a level head and a professional demeanor, even when the situation took an unexpected turn. Her story serves as a reminder that sometimes, the most unconventional paths can lead to the most rewarding careers.

    • A young girl's fascination with bugs leads to a unique science fair projectPassion and curiosity can lead to unforgettable experiences and inspire new opportunities, even at a young age.

Passion and curiosity can lead to unique and memorable experiences, even at a young age. Kathleen's fascination with bugs evolved into a science fair project where she raised beetles to clean bones for display. She obtained specimens from various sources, including a museum and a taxidermist, and carefully watched their progress. Although the project involved dead animals, no harm was caused to living creatures. The experience left a lasting impression, leading Kathleen to preserve the bird skeleton, and inspiring her mother, a former homicide investigator and coroner, to stop her career and support her daughter's interests.

    • Exploring Darker Subjects with Passion and CuriosityPassionately exploring darker subjects can lead to unique experiences, instilling curiosity and personal growth in oneself and others.

Passion and curiosity, even if it involves darker subjects, can lead to unique experiences and opportunities. Linda's love for forensics led her to create crime scenes in her own home using her own blood for the best results. Her honest approach to raising her daughter, Kathleen, instilled a strong work ethic and an unwavering curiosity about the world, leading Kathleen to pursue a career in forensics at a young age. Honesty, passion, and curiosity, even when faced with challenging subjects, can lead to meaningful experiences and personal growth.

    • Exploring the Lives of the DeceasedCoroner Kathleen gains insight into people's lives through their belongings and circumstances, bringing closure to families and understanding reasons behind each death.

Working as a coroner involves examining the lives of deceased individuals through their belongings and circumstances, providing valuable insights into their daily lives and last moments. Kathleen, a coroner, finds this work fascinating and is hooked despite the unsteady nature of her job, which sees groups of deaths occurring at irregular intervals. Many in her field keep their work private due to its sad and morbid nature, but Kathleen is grateful for her mother's support. Her work includes investigating various cases, such as the death of a baby on Christmas morning, which were particularly challenging. Despite the difficulties, Kathleen remains committed to her role in bringing closure to families and understanding the reasons behind each death.

    • Childhood experiences with law enforcement shape livesOur unique past experiences, including those related to family professions, can significantly impact our future careers and personal growth.

The experiences we have as children, especially those related to our families and their professions, can significantly shape our lives in profound ways. In this episode of Criminal, we heard from a woman named Kathleen, whose entire family is involved in law enforcement and death-related work. Kathleen herself is a coroner, and her husband is as well. She shared how their dinner table conversations were vastly different from others, and her daughter, Casey, grew up to become a coroner herself and marry another coroner. Kathleen acknowledged that her upbringing might have had an impact on her child, and it's a question she now faces: how much of this exposure to crime and death should she allow her own child to experience. This episode serves as a reminder that our past experiences, no matter how unique or seemingly negative, contribute to who we become. Ultimately, all we can do is the best we can as parents and trust that our children will find their way. Approval and Attention Seeking: Looking Outside of You To Feel Good Enough

Approval and Attention Seeking: Looking Outside of You To Feel Good Enough

As children, our sense of worthiness hinges on the approval, attention, validation, and protection of others. When we do not receive the consistent, maternal warmth every child needs to develop the psychological sense that we are enough, we matter, and that we are good, and acceptable even when we make a mistake or do not always behave as our parents prefer, this mystical connection to the self is fractured.

In this space, our survival brain and even the root chakra, operate from a place of survival. Rather than live from our hearts, embracing ourselves as works in progress, without self loathing and internal self-abuse, we develop hypervigilance codependency traits and are soaked in insecure attachment issues. All these effects are normal, considering being raised to feel alone, invisible, abandoned, and detached from the authentic self.

On the road to personal development, spiritual healing, and living an authentic life, all serious truth seekers find themselves questioning the thoughts, emotions, patterns, and behaviors that inhibit their spiritual growth. If you are here, and you are learning to become more objective about how you show up in the world, that's incredible. It may also be painful. However, to grow we must all confront what we feel, why we feel what we feel, and how the past organically recreates itself in our future, all outside conscious awareness. In this episode, Lisa A. Romano will help you explore how you show up in the world and reveal signs that indicate you might be stuck, living out unhealed childhood patterns by seeking approval and attention outside of yourself. Awareness is necessary for spiritual healing, personal growth, and living a conscious, authentic life, so buckle in Dear Ones.
