Diffusione Fiaba hosted the UK storyteller Sarah Lloyd-Winder for a conversation on one of the most mysterious characters in fairy tales: the witch.

It is an alternative analysis of the figure of the witch in fairy tales: no witch hunt in traditional stories, but the transmission of a wisdom that can free from the chains imposed by morality, especially Christian morality, and by patriarchal societies.

EN - This episode of Diffusione Fiaba is a journey to discover two different oral storytelling experiences, ranging from the local to the global dimension.

We start from Paternò (Catania) to remember and commemorate the narrative art of Ciccio Busacca, the Sicilian storyteller known throughout the world and to whom the 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗮 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲 (Paternò) was dedicated. Our guide is Alessandro Nicolosi, storyteller and one of the founders of the Casa Museo Cantastorie.

The journey ends with the meeting of the British storyteller Tim Sheppard. Regular guest of the Diffusione Fiaba and promoter of the World Storytelling Day (WSD), Tim talks about the 2024 WSD edition, whose theme is "building bridges", and the importance of having a global occasion to commemorate the power of oral storytelling.

Questa puntata di Diffusione Fiaba è dedicata a 𝗚𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗲, letterato e scrittore campano del XVII secolo, nonche’ uomo d’armi e di politica. L’intento e’ quello di conoscere un po’ meglio la raccolta di fiabe, redatta da Basile in lingua napoletana dal titolo Lu Cunto dei Cunti, overo lo trattenemiento de peccerille, e pubblicata tra il 1634 e il 1636.

Per fare ciò, Elena Asciutti ha incontrato e conversato con 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗳𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲 – docente all’Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia – e con le cantastorie 𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶 e 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗭𝗼𝗰𝗰𝗮. Stefano ha fatto un'introduzione su chi era Giambattista Basile e l'importanza Lu Cunto dei Cunti per la fabulistica in Europa. Alice e Valentina hanno presentato il loro nuovo progetto di narrazione orale in inglese: come cantastorie, intendono diffondere le fiabe di Basile in giro per il mondo.

In this episode, Elena Asciutti engaged with Aaron Oliver, storyteller in the UK. It was a journey across storytelling and queer stories, and their connection with a more inclusive representation of reality in comparison to the monolithic identity depicted by the straight and patriarchal culture.

In fact, in fairy tales, there is plenty of queer enchantment to go around, and Aaron well pointed out how oral tradition can transform and play a transformative role in our societies, fostering inclusion and diversity, whilst avoiding the symbolic annihilation (term used for the first time by the USA scholar George Gerbner in the ’70s) of some groups of people, on the basis of sexual orintation, and even on gender, race, socio-economic status, etc.

Diffusione Fiaba celebrated "Diwali", the Indian Festival of Lights, which took place on 12 November! Diwali can be considered like the Indu New Year, marking the victory of good over evil, through the return home (Ayodhya) of Lord Rama - the Hindu God Vishnu in human form - his wife Goddess Sita and his brother Lakshmana after 14-year exile upon the defeat of their rival Ravana, the king of Lanka.

For Diwali celebration, Elena Asciutti welcomed and interviewed the Indian storytellers: Vinita Bhatnagar and Shreya Biswas. Both talked about oral traditions and storytelling practice in India, while sharing two traditional stories related to Diwali.

Nell'orto di Radio Cavolo, in prossimità del 2 novembre giorno dedicato al ricordo dei morti, Elena Asciutti ha parlato di fiabe e della loro connessione con la morte insieme a Marco Pollarolo, cantastorie e antropologo in Piemonte.

Nel centenario della nascita di Italo Calvino (15 ottobre 1923), Diffusione Fiaba ha dedicato la prima puntata della sua quinta stagione allo scrittore e alla sua raccolta Fiabe italiane.

Pubblicato nel 1956 da Einaudi, Fiabe italiane raccoglie 200 fiabe provenienti da tutte le regioni italiane, selezionate e ritrascritte da Italo Calvino, con il sostegno di importanti studiosi: Giuseppe Cocchiara dell'Università di Palermo, direttore del Museo Etnografico "G. Pitrè", Paolo Toschi dell'Università di Roma, Giuseppe Vidossi di Torino.

Con quest'opera Italo Calvino dona al pubblico italiano e internazionale un corpus di fiabe che l'Italia non aveva ancora, nonostante le numerose antologie di fiabe e racconti a livello regionale.

Elena Asciutti ne ha parlato con Silvia Pacelli, studiosa di letteratura per l'infanzia e dottoranda in Teoria e Storia della Pedagogia, dell'Educazione e della Letteratura per l'Infanzia presso l'Università degli Studi Roma Tre, approfondendo il tema della diversità nelle fiabe.
