Push through discomfort for easier outcomes: Facing tasks we don't want to do can be uncomfortable, but pushing through leads to easier outcomes and relief
No matter what task you're facing that you don't want to do, it's important to push through and do it anyway. As Kate Cocker from the Volley Network explains, sometimes the hardest things in life lead to the easiest outcomes. She uses the example of Katarina Johnson Thompson, a British athlete who won the heptathlon by giving her all in the final 800 meters. Dame Jessica Ennis Hill, another successful heptathlete, advised Thompson's coach that those last two laps would hurt regardless, so it's better to just run them fast and get it over with. This concept applies to any task, no matter how small or large. It may be uncomfortable or even painful to face what we don't want to do, but the results and relief that come after make it worth it. So the next time you're faced with a task that you're avoiding, remember that it's going to hurt either way, so you might as well just do it and move on to the easier parts of life.
