    en-usOctober 04, 2020

    Podcast Summary

    • Friend's struggle with heavy drinking cultureBeing sober in a group of drunk friends can be isolating and stressful, and it's important to be supportive while also setting boundaries.

Being the sober person in a group of drunk friends can be a challenging experience. Indiana shared a story about a friend, Jared, who struggled to keep up with the heavy drinking culture of Southern college students during a party. Despite Jared's attempts to prove he could hang, he quickly became intoxicated, leading to numerous calls and texts to Indiana for help. Indiana, who doesn't drink, was left feeling out of place and constantly pressured to join in the festivities. The experience highlighted the contrasting experiences of being intoxicated versus being sober in social situations. Additionally, the conversation revealed Jared's tendency to make impulsive decisions while under the influence, leading Indiana to intervene and prevent him from potentially regrettable actions.

The speakers in this conversation reminisced about various experiences, some of which were humorous, others uncomfortable, but all served to strengthen their bond. For instance, they shared stories about using each other's toothpaste, getting rejected at prom, and watching movies. • Misunderstandings from not expressing feelingsClear communication and honesty are crucial for building strong relationships. Avoiding misunderstandings by expressing feelings and intentions is essential.

Communication and honesty are key in building and maintaining relationships. The speaker shared a past experience of not being asked to prom and feeling rejected, leading to a misunderstanding with a friend. They also discussed the challenges of expressing feelings and being perceived as nice rather than attractive. The conversation also touched on the importance of knowing when to be serious and when to have fun. Ultimately, the importance of clear communication and being true to oneself emerged as a valuable lesson from their conversation. It's essential to be open and honest about our feelings and intentions to avoid misunderstandings and build strong, meaningful connections with others.

    • Understanding the Difference Between Being Nice and FlirtingBe clear about intentions, express romantic interest directly, and communicate authentically to build meaningful relationships.

Being nice and flirting are two different things. While being nice involves comforting and showing interest, flirting is more direct and involves expressing romantic intent. It's important to be clear about your intentions and not be afraid to ask someone out on a date. Additionally, people, regardless of gender, have complex emotions and thoughts about relationships. It's a common misconception that men don't think about relationships as deeply as women do. Furthermore, trying to come across as having many options can be off-putting, and authenticity and clear communication are key in expressing interest.

    • The unpredictability of human connectionsPeople often enjoy the chase in relationships and human connections can be complex and unpredictable

People, especially when it comes to matters of the heart, can be unpredictable and complex. The speaker in this conversation shares a story about his experience with pursuing two different women, only to be rejected by the first one he had long-standing feelings for, and then unexpectedly being in a relationship with the second one. He reflects on how people seem to enjoy the chase and how it can be a significant factor in relationships. The conversation also touches on the topic of what women wear to please men, leading to a debate about preferences and the authenticity of certain statements. Ultimately, the conversation highlights the intricacies and uncertainties of human connections and desires.

    • Safety, companionship, and planning in the bathroomFriendship and trust are crucial for women's safety and emotional well-being. Discussing plans with friends can lead to meaningful connections and memorable experiences.

Women often go to the bathroom in groups for safety, companionship, and to discuss their next moves. The speaker expresses her preference for affordable shoes like Vans and her admiration for guys wearing jerseys and hoodies. She also shares her experience of going to the bathroom with friends and sometimes staying there to discuss plans instead of using the facilities. The speaker also addresses the issue of women having guy friends, emphasizing that it's essential to trust and communicate in relationships. The conversation also touches on topics like fashion trends, dance battles, and the importance of emotional connections. Overall, the conversation highlights the importance of friendship, trust, and communication in various aspects of life.

    • Men and Women Share Struggles with Self-PerceptionBoth genders deal with body dysmorphia and self-criticism, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging progress and focusing on positive affirmations for self-confidence.

People, regardless of gender, struggle with self-perception and insecurities. During a discussion, it was revealed that both men and women can experience body dysmorphia and have internal criticisms that often exceed external realities. The speakers shared their personal experiences of feeling self-conscious, despite appearing fit and healthy to others. They emphasized the importance of acknowledging one's progress and focusing on positive affirmations to help build self-confidence. Ultimately, the conversation highlighted that everyone has their unique struggles and that open communication and understanding can help bridge the gap towards self-acceptance.

    • Embrace Self-Love and Body PositivityDaily affirmations, self-examination, and supportive relationships can boost self-image. Individuality, self-reliance, and personal goals promote well-being.

Self-love and body positivity are essential for personal growth and well-being. The speaker emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and appreciating one's own physical appearance through daily affirmations and self-examination. The idea of dedicating time each morning to examine and praise one's body with a supportive friend or partner is proposed as a way to foster positive self-image. Additionally, the speaker encourages individuality and self-reliance, emphasizing the importance of pursuing personal goals and being accountable for one's own choices and actions.

    • The Power of Hard Work and DeterminationHard work and determination can lead to unexpected opportunities and success. Stay true to yourself and keep pushing forward, even when challenges arise.

Hard work and determination can lead to great opportunities and success, even if they don't come easily or in the place where you initially expected them to. The speaker shares her story of graduating from college early by working hard and then using that opportunity to move to LA and start her career. She emphasizes that everyone's path is different and what works for one person might not work for another. The speaker also touches on the importance of having a strong work ethic and being willing to put in the effort to achieve your goals. Additionally, she emphasizes the importance of staying true to yourself and continuing to put effort into relationships, even when they become challenging. Overall, the message is that hard work and determination can lead to great rewards, but it's important to stay true to yourself and keep pushing forward, no matter what.

    • Expressing feelings and having open conversations prevent drifting apartCommunication is vital in relationships. Be patient, understanding, and encourage open conversations to prevent misunderstandings and drifting apart. Surround yourself with positive and supportive people, and embrace your strengths to be the best version of yourself.

Communication is key in resolving relationship issues. Whether it's a romantic interest or a best friend, expressing feelings and having an open conversation can help prevent drifting apart. It's important to remember that everyone goes through awkward moments and may need some time to process their emotions. Being understanding and patient can go a long way. Additionally, surrounding oneself with positive and supportive people is essential for personal growth and happiness. Regarding the situation with the mutual interest and the excuses, it's essential to recognize that people, especially young ones, can be nervous and unsure of how to express their feelings. Instead of jumping to conclusions, try to approach the situation with empathy and understanding. Encourage open communication and create a safe space for both parties to express their thoughts and feelings. Lastly, don't underestimate the power of self-confidence and being true to oneself. Embrace your strengths and don't let others define you. Remember, it's essential to be the best version of yourself and surround yourself with people who appreciate and value you for who you are.

    • Finding connections in group settingsEngage in group activities, be honest, and communicate openly to build strong and lasting relationships, whether romantic or platonic.

Building a connection with someone can start in a group setting, where shared interests and conversations can lead to deeper understanding and potential romantic relationships. Activities like mini golfing or watching movies can provide opportunities for prolonged interaction and getting to know each other better. However, honesty is crucial in maintaining friendships, even if past romantic relationships are involved. Lying or hiding the truth can lead to misunderstandings and unnecessary conflicts. It's essential to communicate openly and honestly with friends, especially when past romantic connections are present. Ultimately, being genuine and authentic in relationships, whether romantic or platonic, is the key to building strong and lasting connections.

    • Friendships on hold and the power of patienceUnderstand complex situations, maintain patience, and use humor to keep friendships strong.

Sometimes friendships can be put on hold due to complex situations, such as a friend being in a toxic relationship where their partner doesn't allow them to spend time with others. It's important to understand that these situations can be difficult and may require patience and waiting for things to change. Resentment isn't always the answer, and it's essential to maintain a long-term perspective. Additionally, the discussion touched on the use of humor and memes as a way to lighten the mood and engage with listeners during podcasts. The memes shared during the podcast ranged from funny anecdotes to relatable situations, adding an entertaining element to the conversation. Furthermore, the importance of keeping listeners engaged and on their toes was emphasized through the use of humor and unexpected twists in the conversation. Overall, the podcast episode demonstrated the power of patience, friendship, and humor in navigating complex situations.

    • Engagement fuels YouTube successViewer engagement, including comments, likes, subscriptions, and notifications, can boost a YouTube channel's visibility and success

Engagement matters on YouTube. The creators in the video expressed their appreciation for viewers leaving comments, as it could potentially help with the algorithm and increase the visibility of their content. They also encouraged viewers to like, subscribe, and turn on post notifications to stay updated with new episodes. The creators' playful invitation to come up to them in public with their tongue out if they're ever 18 was a lighthearted way to connect with their audience and encourage interaction. Overall, the video emphasizes the importance of viewer engagement in the YouTube community and the potential impact it can have on the success of a channel.

What's up party people! We're back with another fun themed episode but this week we travel back in time! Maybe idk the timeline is a little fuzzy on this one. This week Zach and Tara talk about their experience meeting Tara's idol, we explore the depths of one of our love lives, and there might be a new Dropouts couple to ship you'll just have to watch and see...We hope you enjoy!

    P.S.

We sincerely apologize for another shorter episode this week :( As you can see this was shot on the same day as the Mount Everest ep and just for a little context, because of everybody’s schedules we had to shoot two episodes AND a music video all in the same day to make sure we were able to put out our regularly scheduled episodes for you all. I hope you can understand and give us a little grace for that. I also wish I could say that we’d be back to our normally scheduled program next week but to be honest with you, the next time we film will most likely be while we’re in NYC for our East coast live shows! Now, no promises, but that episode may or may not have a very cool guest on it 👀 What I can say for certain is that it’ll still be another week until we’re back in the diner. We always want to give you the best content possible and sometimes life gets busy and hectic and tries to throw a wrench in that plan, and we’re just trying our best to uphold that promise to you all. Thank you for coming along this journey, you truly mean the world to us. Can’t wait to see everybody on tour next week!!

Thank you to the team at Thurgood Media for creating the back drop for us!https://www.thurgoodmedia.com/ What's up party people! Okay, first order of business we'd like to formally apologize for the shorter episode this week. As you can see we filmed in a special location this week, but with that (and also a few technical issues) came some time constraints that we couldn't avoid. We were also filming a VERY cool project the same day that i think many of you will be excited to see 👀 We always want to provide you all with the best content we can and we hope that this unique location and all the behind the scenes effort we put into every episode and this one in particular, at least somewhat makes up for it... Second order of business, we still have a great episode for you! Despite what the background might say, things start off HOT this episode with some drama between two of our cohosts 👀 You'll just have to see for yourself who's a part of that. Elizabeth Day - How To Cope With Being A 'Friendaholic'

Elizabeth Day - How To Cope With Being A 'Friendaholic'

My guest today is the awesome Elizabeth Day. Elizabeth is a very dear friend and a person who has affected my life incredibly positively. If it wasn't for her you wouldn't know about me. Back in 2019, she hosted me on her podcast 'How To Fail" which now has more than 35 million downloads. Elizabeth is an amazing soul who has found a way to use her vulnerability to dig deep inside to tell us about what we all feel but don't say or address. She now has a new book out called 'Friendaholic' it's a beautiful approach to understanding that friendship is not always better when there is more of it. Anyway I just used that as an excuse to meet my wonderful friend

Elizabeth Day is an award-winning author and broadcaster. Her chart-topping podcast, How To Fail With Elizabeth Day, is a celebration of all of the things that haven’t gone right. Every week, in a one-on-one interview, a guest discusses what they have learned from failure. Elizabeth has written two books off the back of the podcast: How To Fail: Everything I’ve Ever Learned From Things Going Wrong, is part-memoir, part-manifesto. It is also a Sunday Times top 5 bestseller. Failosophy: A Handbook For When Things Go Wrong was described by Alain de Botton as ‘beautiful, timely and humane.’ Elizabeth is currently developing her first screenplay - a fictionalised adaptation of How To Fail. Two of her novels have also been optioned for screen. https://www.elizabethday.org/

    Sexuality, Friendships & Jealousy

    Sexuality, Friendships & Jealousy
(Video podcast available on Spotify & YouTube) Tune in to Pretty Lonesome for a discussion on male vs. female friendships. Madeline admits that she is pickier when getting into male friendships and as a result, tends to have healthier relationships with male friends. With women, however, Madeline tends to take a “the more, the merrier” approach, which does not always lead to the healthiest of female friendships. Madeline also explores the theme of jealousy in her intimate relationships. She has found that there are different boundaries with friendships when it comes to straight vs. bisexual relationships. Madeline reveals that she feels uncomfortable with partners that don’t let each other see their friends out of jealousy and shares the ways in which she has navigated these situations with previous partners of hers. Welcome back to The Viall Files! Today we have another special “where are they now” update show where we give you updates from our past callers to see what’s happened in their situations and relationships since appearing on the show.

We bring on our first caller who was debating shooting her shot with someone who had ghosted her 2 years ago. We had encouraged her to reach out to him when she was in his area again, and find out if her messages were well-received. Our second caller had first called in because she was deciding whether she should break up with her boyfriend or not. We pushed her to talk to him about their compatibility, and find out if they’re still together. Our third caller had originally called in because bl*wjobs were ending her dates. We gave her the advice of taking things slow and being more selfish in dating, and find out how her dating life has progressed since then.
