Overall, the conversation revolves around travel plans, body image, and cosmetic procedures.

    • Finding value in unexpected situations and the importance of resilienceEven in seemingly worthless or damaged situations, there's often a chance for redemption or salvage. Embrace resilience and find humor in failure to learn and grow.

Even in the most unexpected and seemingly unfortunate circumstances, there's often a chance for redemption or salvage. The heart transplant story illustrates this perfectly - despite the heart being dropped on the ground after a helicopter crash, the doctors managed to save it and use it for the transplant. This shows that sometimes, it's possible to find value in seemingly worthless or damaged things. Another theme that emerged from the conversation was the idea of resilience and finding humor in failure. The call-out for the biggest fail resulted in stories of personal mishaps, from losing teeth to dropping the holy Eucharist. Yet, the speakers found humor and even positivity in these situations, recognizing that everyone makes mistakes and that it's important to learn from them. Lastly, the conversation touched on the topic of learning and personal growth. One speaker shared their efforts to learn about Jesus on the train, highlighting the importance of continuous learning and self-improvement. Overall, the conversation demonstrated the ability to find meaning and value in unexpected situations, as well as the importance of resilience and a sense of humor in the face of failure.

Overall, the speaker's reflections highlight the importance of self-reflection, learning, and striving to be better individuals.

    • Actions have consequences in relationships and brandsReflect on potential consequences before acting, as actions can impact relationships and brands significantly. Daniela Westbrook's actions led to Burberry's downfall, and words can also cause harm. Consider the ripple effect of every action.

Actions have consequences, and they can impact relationships and brands in significant ways. Sanjay and his wife had a falling out, and he received various offers for suitcases, leading him to reflect on the power of celebrity endorsements and their potential impact on a brand's reputation. • Personal stories of exam experiencesDespite unexpected challenges, people have found ways to cope and pass exams, showcasing the importance of resilience and adaptability.

People have unique experiences and stories related to exams, some involving dressing up for the occasion, others involving unexpected events like vomiting or cheating. Some people had tense relationships with their teachers, while others found creative ways to get out of difficult situations. The speaker shared stories of girls going out the night before exams, a teacher touching her during an exam, and even attempting to cheat by stuffing a note in her mouth. Despite the challenges, most people managed to pass their exams and move on. The speaker also mentioned her fondness for a nightclub in Dublin and a humorous incident involving a bomb threat. Overall, the discussion highlighted the variety of experiences people have had with exams and the importance of finding ways to cope with the stress and unexpected situations that can arise.

    • Unexpected stories about exams and smear testsUnexpected experiences during exams and medical procedures can be uncomfortable, but sharing and finding humor in them can help alleviate stress and promote openness.

Exams, such as the Leaving Cert, can be a source of great stress and unfairness for students. Despite the pressure, it's important to remember that everyone goes through it and that passing is a cause for celebration. However, the topic of exams led to an unexpected story about a smear test. The speaker shared an experience where the nurse showed her a poster of George Clooney during the procedure, which added to the awkwardness. Another story involved having multiple people in the room during the test, making it feel like an orgy. While these experiences may be embarrassing or uncomfortable, they are a part of growing up and learning to navigate sensitive situations. Overall, the discussions highlight the importance of being open about uncomfortable experiences and finding humor in them.

On today’s episode in our special series, Momentum: Civil Rights in the 1950s, Sharon talks about some of the most important components of a successful movement: money and reputation. Ep 30: Angela and Resilient at Any Age

Ep 30: Angela and Resilient at Any Age

It all started with a LinkedIn post that drove a ton of traffic (including from me), Angela Shaw, HR executive and DEI advocate, was fielding tons of questions and connections from others feeling the same. Angela was gracious enough to join our show while in transition, prior to landing at JuiceLand as their Chief People Officer.

In this episode, we talk about the joys and challenges of resiliency at middle (ahem) age, the joys of understanding yourself and giving yourself space to just be ok taking a full-on nap in the middle of the day!

We start with a study from Harvard and MIT about resiliency at middle age, followed by the article, " "Resilience, mindfulness and flourishing in middle aged adults." But ultimately, we just have a great conversation about self-care, self-compassion, and giving yourself permission to being true to who you are.

I also made a quick-start guide with 5 ways to be resilient at any age, which is on our website. Check it out!

Episode 253 | Strategies For Self-Care & Resilience With Natalie Dattilo, PhD

Episode 253 | Strategies For Self-Care & Resilience With Natalie Dattilo, PhD

I had the opportunity to speak on a panel for the development of a new chronic pain app. There were three of us that were practitioners on that panel. It was myself, a social psychologist and our guest, Dr.Natalie Dattilo. We were fielding questions both from people living with pain as well as practitioners. I had the opportunity to get to know Natalie and I wanted to share her with you and introduce you to her because I found her approach to be very refreshing. For me, it was refreshing even though we know that mental health is finally getting the attention it deserves both in pain care and other aspects of illness.

What I like about her approach is that she focuses on well-being and resilience. Instead of focusing on what's wrong, she's focusing on what can we improve and how can we improve someone's resiliency so that they can cope and overcome whatever physical or mental health challenge that they're facing.

She is a licensed Clinical and Health Psychologist who specializes in the treatment of depression, anxiety, stress as well as insomnia. She provides psychological evaluation and treatment at Brigham Women's Hospital and is an Instructor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. In this episode, we discuss the intersection between self-care and resiliency, when it comes to living with chronic pain or another challenging health condition.

We discuss why self-care is important and how self-care is related to resiliency, how to build resiliency, as well as the barriers that might show up as you start to engage in a self-care routine. The rates of depression, anxiety as well as chronic pain skyrocketed during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is an important episode to share with your friends, family as well as the patients that you treat. There's no time like a depressant to take stock of how you're doing mentally, physically as well as emotionally and to develop a self-care routine that will contribute to resiliency. Without further ado, let's begin and meet Dr. Natalie Dattilo.
