    • Technological disruptions, political divisionsGlobal internet outage caused flight disruptions and affected businesses, while political divisions persisted at the RNC and in Minneapolis city council

The global internet outage caused disruptions at the Twin Cities Airport, leading to delayed or canceled flights for several major airlines. The outage also affected various businesses and institutions beyond the airport. Meanwhile, at the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin, delegates expressed their support for President Trump, regardless of who the Democratic nominee might be. In Minneapolis, the city council approved a new contract with the police department, which includes pay increases and recruitment incentives. Some council members, however, were disappointed that the contract did not include more reforms and accountability measures. Overall, these events highlight the far-reaching impacts of technological disruptions and the ongoing political divisions in the United States.

    • Dakota County Jail concernsA mentally ill detainee with diabetes allegedly suffered severe complications due to denied meds in Dakota County Jail, highlighting the importance of proper care for detainees

Despite some progress towards transforming public safety in Minneapolis, concerns regarding the well-being of detainees in the Dakota County Jail continue to surface. In a lawsuit, a father alleges that his son, who is mentally ill and requires psychiatric medication and insulin for diabetes, was denied his necessary meds and suffered severe complications while in custody. The incident resulted in critical condition and a lengthy hospital stay. Meanwhile, the Rapidan Dam in Blue Earth River, which faced severe flooding earlier this month, showed no significant movement during or after the flood based on preliminary observations. However, engineers are still monitoring the dam for potential damages. The incident at the Dakota County Jail underscores the importance of proper care and attention for detainees, particularly those with complex medical needs.

    • Baseball Hall of Fame inductionFormer Twins catcher Joe Mauer, a Minnesota native, is being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday, becoming the fifth player from St. Paul to be honored.

The Minnesota Twins begin the second half of their baseball season at home against the Milwaukee Brewers this weekend. A notable event in baseball history will occur on Sunday when former Twins catcher and Minnesota native, Joe Mauer, is inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Mauer, who is the only catcher in baseball history to win three league batting titles, joins other St. Paul-born players Jack Morris, Paul Molitor, and Dave Winfield in the hall. Meanwhile, the weather in Minnesota is warming up with mostly sunny skies today, but there's a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the West late this afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 70s to mid 80s, with partly cloudy and humid conditions tonight, and a chance of showers and storms with lows in the 50s and 60s. The Twins' game against the Brewers and Mauer's induction into the Hall of Fame are sure to be significant events in the coming days for sports fans in Minnesota.
