    About this Episode

On the seventh episode of season two of The Sarah Show, Sarah Chew talks with Janine Kwok, founder of the brand AUTO, about her experience living with autoimmune diseases.

Janine was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and Hashimoto's disease when she was only 15 years old — making her life in high school very difficult. Chronic illness symptoms can come and go, so Janine describes how she'd need a wheelchair one week but be fine to walk the next. She discusses her triggers, her medications, and her methods to de-stress to try and improve her symptoms.

After not talking about her autoimmunity to people for many years, Janine decided to open up to trusted friends —and it made a world of difference. Now she empowers other people living with autoimmune conditions to share their stories and create community through her brand, AUTO.

AUTO currently sells merchandise (which you can buy here: https://autothelabel.com/ ) but as Janine talks about in this episode, the brand will be doing so much more in the near future.

    2) What can you do this week to support the autoimmune disease community? Can you donate to/fundraise for one of those foundations linked above? Can you share this episode and raise awareness through Janine's story? If you know anyone in your life currently living with an autoimmune or chronic illness, can you ask them if and how they'd like your support?

How To Rest Pt 1: What Is Rest and How Do We Sabbath? feat. Pastor Kevin White

On the ninth episode of season two of The Sarah Show, Sarah talks with Youth Pastor Kevin White about the historical background of rest and its purpose in our lives.

Pastor Kevin has worked as a youth pastor at Cornerstone Christian Community Church for 14 years, and he has learned a lot about the necessary rhythms of both work and rest.

Pastor Kevin and Sarah dive into why God rested on the seventh day after creating the earth, and why He set an example we should follow.

They also dig into Jesus' time on earth, and how he said that the Sabbath wasn't supposed to be a bunch of rules but that true rest came in a close relationship with Him.

Pastor Kevin and Sarah share the different ways they "shabbat" (stop work) and "nuakh" (settle and be restfully present) during the week, and what that looks like practically.

This is the first part of the two-part series on rest —so stay subscribed and follow The Sarah Show to keep up with the series! You won't want to miss either episode.

How I Left My Abusive Boyfriend feat. author Rebecca K. Tan

On the sixth episode of season two of The Sarah Show podcast, Sarah Chew talks to author Rebecca K. Tan about how she escaped an abusive relationship.

*TRIGGER WARNING: this episode talks about emotional, physical, sexual and spiritual abuse. Listener discretion is advised.

Additional note: In order to protect the privacy of all the individuals involved, Rebecca K. Tan operates under a pseudonym; all names have been changed in the interview and her book; and her voice has been digitally altered.

Rebecca met her first boyfriend through a Christian fellowship in university. In the beginning stages of dating, Tony seemed perfect. He seemed to be a man of God, everyone loved him, and he knew the Bible really well. But after a few weeks, Tony started to change. He became emotionally, physically and sexually abusive to Rebecca, all while twisting Scripture to reason with her.

Listen to the episode to find out how Rebecca ended the toxic relationship, and how she eventually found freedom through Jesus Christ.

Throughout the whole ordeal, Rebecca kept a journal full of her raw thoughts and prayers. In 2020, she published a book containing these accounts titled, "But He Said He Is A Christian." You can find Rebecca's book on Amazon or on her website (linked below).

How Anti-Asian Racism Affects Us All #StopAsianHate

On season two episode three of The Sarah Show, Sarah records a solo episode all about the recent rise in Asian-targeted crimes and how she herself has experienced racism.

This episode unpacks a lot: from the statistics that show that crimes against Asians have risen insanely during the COVID-19 pandemic; to the history of Asian discrimination in Canada, to Sarah's internal racism growing up; to the under- and misrepresentation of Asians in media; to examples of cultural appropriation that will make your head hurt — this episode talks about it all.

Sarah also analyzes why being racist is wrong according to the Bible. She quotes several Bible verses, including Genesis 1:27 that proves that all of humankind has been made in the image of God —not just some races.

She finishes off the episode with three tangible action items you can do to combat Asian racism and potentially save people's lives.

Listen until the end to hear Sarah's personal Asian media recommendations —and there are a LOT.

    Questions of the episode:
    1) What are your honest thoughts and opinions of the Asian community?
    2) How can you join in the movement to end Asian hate?

How I Became A Black Enneagram Artist feat. TheBlackEnneagram

On the second episode of season two of The Sarah Show, Sarah talks with Dayo of @TheBlackEnneagram on Instagram about how she merges Black culture with the Enneagram.

Dayo is a digital creator, a future law student at Berkeley Law, and even works with Christian hip-hop legend Lecrae. But most importantly, Dayo is passionate about Black representation in media and entertainment.

In fact, Dayo noticed the lack of representation in the Enneagram online community, and that inspired her to create her account, which shares art based on the nine-type personality system as well as Black culture.

In this episode, Dayo breaks down the nine types, talks about how her type one personality affects her everyday life, and shares how trauma linked to racism impacts her as an artist.

*WARNING: the subject matter of racial violence and injustice may be triggering to some. Listener discretion is advised.

The Bible verse Dayo referred to is Micah 6:8:

How You Can End Homelessness feat. Lorraine Lam of Sanctuary Toronto

Welcome to season two of The Sarah Show! To kick off the new season, Sarah talks with Lorraine Lam about how listeners can partner and walk with people experiencing poverty, homelessness and marginalization.

Lorraine Lam is as an outreach worker at Sanctuary Toronto, a Christian organization that works with poor and homeless people and provides community meals, health care, resources, worship services, etc.  In this first episode of season two, Sarah and Lorraine discuss the importance of listening to people before trying to "help" them — and why your "help" might not be so helpful after all.

Lorraine also speaks about how her faith influences the advocacy work she does on social media, and how she handles grief and anger while witnessing injustices day to day.

It's an epic episode that will be sure to make you think twice about performative service, and consider pursuing humble partnership with marginalized members of your community.
