    • Deep State vs. The Rest: Giuliani Under InvestigationThe deep state's power and tactics threaten individual privacy and freedom. Protect your online data with a VPN.

There's an ongoing war between the deep state intelligence community and those representing the rest of the population. This war involves prominent figures like Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump, Mike Flynn, and others. The deep state uses similar tactics to take down anyone who poses a threat to their interests. Meanwhile, internet service providers make money by spying on users and selling their data to big tech companies. To protect your online data, use a VPN like ExpressVPN, which creates a secure tunnel and encrypts all your internet activity. In the news, Rudy Giuliani has been under investigation since 2019, but the deep state's involvement was not acknowledged by the public until recently. The deep state's power and entrenchment make it a formidable force, often making even high-ranking officials like Bill Barr and Donald Trump its victims.

    • Deep State's Wrath Against Perceived ThreatsThe deep state intelligence community wields significant power and retaliates against those who challenge them, often investigating individuals for perceived threats and discrediting them to protect their interests

The deep state intelligence community holds significant power and will retaliate against those who challenge them. As stated by Chuck Schumer, even someone like Donald Trump, who is perceived as a practical businessman, risks their wrath. The intelligence community has a history of using the same tactics to target individuals they perceive as threats, often investigating people in search of crimes rather than the other way around. One notable example is Rudy Giuliani, who possesses damaging information on Hunter Biden. The deep state intelligence community has responded by labeling him a tool for Russian disinformation, an attempt to discredit him and undermine the validity of the information he holds. This pattern of behavior highlights the deep state's entrenched power and their willingness to use it to protect their interests.

    • FBI declined to take Hunter Biden's hard drives from Giuliani's houseThe FBI declined to take Hunter Biden's hard drives from Giuliani's house despite them falling within the scope of the subpoena, raising questions about their investigation priorities and possible targeting of Giuliani.

During a search warrant execution at Rudy Giuliani's house, the FBI did not take Hunter Biden's hard drives, despite them falling within the scope of the subpoena. Giuliani repeatedly offered the hard drives to the FBI, but they declined, relying on his word that they were Hunter Biden's. This incident raises questions about the FBI's priorities in their investigation, as Giuliani is believed to have information on the Biden family, specifically Hunter Biden, and his hard drive from his laptop. The FBI's decision not to take the hard drives, along with their subsequent characterization of Giuliani as a Russian influence campaign target, has led some to speculate that Giuliani himself may have been the real target of the investigation.

    • Investigating Perceived Threats: The Cases of Rudy Giuliani and Michael FlynnThe intelligence community's investigations of Rudy Giuliani and Michael Flynn, based on perceived threats rather than clear evidence, highlight the need for transparency and accountability in intelligence operations.

The intelligence community has been accused of using questionable tactics to target individuals perceived as threats, even if there was no clear evidence of wrongdoing. The discussion focuses on two specific cases: Rudy Giuliani and Michael Flynn. In both instances, the intelligence community reportedly investigated them without finding initial evidence of crimes but continued the investigations in order to potentially uncover something incriminating later. Rudy Giuliani came under scrutiny due to a hard drive containing photos and videos, some of which appeared suspicious. The questionable nature of the material led to the intelligence community's interest, but the authenticity and context of the content remain unclear. Michael Flynn, on the other hand, was targeted due to his operational knowledge within the intelligence community. He had criticized the community's performance and was seen as a potential threat to their interests. When he became a Trump representative and later the national security adviser, the intelligence community allegedly tried to dig deeper into his connections, eventually leading to charges against him. However, these charges were later dropped, raising questions about the motivations behind the initial investigations. Both cases illustrate the importance of transparency and accountability within the intelligence community, as well as the potential consequences of politically motivated investigations.

    • Discussions to investigate Flynn and Trump's son during transition periodObama and Biden instructed investigations against Flynn and Trump's son, labeling them Russian agents to discredit them

During the transition period between the Obama and Trump administrations, high-ranking officials, including President Obama, discussed investigating General Flynn based on his phone calls with Russian officials. Despite FBI Director Comey acknowledging that Flynn's calls appeared legitimate, Biden and Obama instructed to investigate further and impeach Flynn's credibility by labeling him a Russian agent. Similar tactics were used against Trump's son, Don Jr., due to his access and vocal support for his father. This pattern of labeling individuals as Russian agents to discredit them was employed by the intelligence community and the media consistently. It's essential to be aware of these manipulative tactics and ensure critical thinking when evaluating information.

    • Media bias in reporting on Trump Tower meetingMedia failed to report translator's statement about lack of Clinton dirt discussion, mischaracterized attendees, and applied double standard in investigating Russian ties to Trump vs. Democrats

The media's reporting on the Trump Tower meeting between Donald Jr. and Russians has been biased and incomplete. The New York Times, for instance, failed to report that the translator in the meeting, Anatoli Samachornev, stated there was no discussion about dirt on Hillary Clinton and that no materials were exchanged. Additionally, other attendees, such as Rinat Akhmetshin and Natalia Veselnitskaya, have been portrayed as Russians connected to the Trump campaign, but there is no evidence of wrongdoing. The double standard applied to investigations of Russians' connections to the Trump circle versus those with ties to Democrats is also noteworthy. The media's role in amplifying the narrative of Russian interference in the election, often without adequate fact-checking, has contributed to a climate of mistrust and misinformation.

    • Politically Charged Investigations into Hunter Biden's DealingsAllegations of conflict of interest and Russian involvement in investigations into Hunter Biden's dealings with foreign entities have become politically charged, with skepticism and dismissals based on political affiliations. The role of intelligence and media in reporting on these sensitive matters has raised questions.

The discourse surrounding investigations into Hunter Biden's dealings with foreign entities, particularly those in Ukraine and China, has become politically charged, with allegations of conflict of interest and Russian involvement being met with skepticism based on the political affiliations of those making the allegations. Senator Ron Johnson's investigation into Biden's dealings with Burisma in Ukraine, which uncovered potential connections to Russian oligarchs, has been dismissed by some as Russian disinformation. The intelligence community's response to these allegations has raised questions about their impartiality and the role of the media in reporting on such sensitive matters. The FBI's warning to Rudy Giuliani about potential Russian influence operations aimed at circulating falsehoods regarding Biden has been used to discredit Giuliani and Johnson, despite a lack of evidence that their information is false. The politicization of intelligence and investigations has created a contentious environment, with each side accusing the other of spreading disinformation and undermining the integrity of the democratic process.

    • Investigation into Cash Patel's Russian and foreign connectionsCash Patel, a key figure in uncovering Spygate, faced investigation for alleged Russian and foreign connections due to his knowledge. This adds another layer to the complex web of the scandal.

Cash Patel, a key figure in uncovering the Spygate scandal involving the Trump campaign, faced investigation for alleged Russian and foreign connections due to his knowledge of the matter. Patel, who worked closely with Devin Nunes, had uncovered information on how the Intelligence Community targeted Flynn and Trump, as well as the creation of the infamous PP tape and their collaboration with Hillary Clinton. However, Patel's appointment as CIA deputy was met with opposition from high-ranking officials like Gina Haspel, who threatened to resign over his potential appointment. This investigation into Patel for leaking classified information adds another layer to the complex web of the Spygate scandal. • Investigations into Trump associates and taxesInvestigations into Trump allies like Cash Patel and Devin Nunes continue, driven by allegations and leaks. Sara Jacobs urged paying more taxes for their effectiveness, but no proof of her contribution was shown.

There have been investigations into individuals associated with former President Trump and his team, including Cash Patel and Devin Nunes. These investigations have been spurred by leaks to the media and allegations of wrongdoing, but some argue that they are politically motivated. For instance, Cash Patel was investigated due to his role in helping uncover information related to "Spygate." Devin Nunes was also investigated after receiving foreign information that could potentially damage Biden. Meanwhile, a liberal congresswoman, Sara Jacobs, was challenged to voluntarily pay more taxes if she truly believes in their effectiveness. Despite her call to action, no screenshot of her check has been provided. The back-and-forth highlights the political nature of investigations and the ongoing debates surrounding taxes and government accountability.

    • President Biden Promotes Trickle-Down Economics in State of the Union AddressDespite its proven ineffectiveness, President Biden endorsed trickle-down economics in his State of the Union address. Conservative commentator Dan Bongino urged listeners to call him out and offered to promote those who donated to the government as a sign of integrity. An article debunking the economic benefits of trickle-down economics was also shared.

During his State of the Union address, President Joe Biden once again promoted the economic theory of trickle-down economics, despite it having a long-standing record of not working. Dan Bongino, a conservative commentator, strongly criticized this and urged his audience to call out Biden for it. He even offered to promote anyone who sends him proof of a donation to the government as a show of integrity, promising to praise them on his show. Additionally, Bongino highlighted an article that debunked the economic benefits of trickle-down economics and encouraged his listeners to shop at rockauto.com for reliable and affordably priced auto parts.

    • The Myth of Trickle Down EconomicsDespite its political use, 'trickle down' economics is a myth with no clear definition or economic basis, and it's crucial to critically evaluate sources to understand economic theories accurately.

The concept of "trickle down" economics, where economic growth supposedly benefits the entire population from the top down, is a myth. Economist Thomas Sowell debunked this idea, stating that no economist or politician has ever advocated for it. The term has been used politically without a clear definition or economic basis. Even articles that appear to support trickle down economics often include footnotes or citations refuting its existence. It's essential to be aware of misinformation and to critically evaluate sources to understand economic theories accurately.

    • Discrepancies between estimated and actual census counts affect state representationBlue states like NY, CA, IL gained more seats than estimated, while red states like FL, TX had fewer, causing concerns for potential non-coincidental causes

There have been significant discrepancies between the estimated and actual population counts in the 2020 U.S. Census, with blue states like New York, California, and Illinois experiencing larger population counts than expected, while red states like Florida and Texas had lower counts than estimated. The Wall Street Journal reported that these discrepancies may have affected the number of congressional seats each state gained or lost as a result of the census. It's important to note that while these discrepancies could have various explanations, there are concerns that they may not be entirely coincidental. Further investigation is needed to determine the causes of these discrepancies and ensure the accuracy and fairness of the census data.

Episode 112 - Data Privacy and Canada

Episode 112 - Data Privacy and Canada

Canada and the United States are each other’s major commercial partner. Many U.S. companies have Canadian customers and collect and process personal information about Canadians. They must therefore understand Canada’s and its provinces’ regulation of personal data privacy. The Canadian regulation of data privacy is very complex, with a maze of the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and provincial laws and regulations.

In this conversation with Lyndsay Wasser, a Toronto-based attorney at the Canadian law firm McMillan LLP, the Data Privacy Detective asks what cross-border businesses should know about privacy and data security in Canada, as well as looming changes on the U.S.’s northern horizon.

    Time stamps:

01:05 - What is the general state of data privacy and security law and regulation within Canada?

02:33 - What does Quebec do differently?

03:18 - Do foreign companies need to consider individual provincial laws in addition to the federal laws?

05:27 - How is the Canadian privacy regime similar to the EU's GDPR? How is it different?

07:14 - What should a US company know if it collects data from Canadian users?

08:16 - How does Canada address data localization?

09:43 - What does the future look like for data privacy law in Canada?

13:06 - What advice would Lyndsay give on the type of guidance companies should seek regarding Canadian data privacy?
