    • Feeling Isolated Despite Supportive RelationshipsEven with supportive relationships, it's natural to feel a deep sense of loneliness and longing for deeper connections. Seek out meaningful relationships and conversations to foster a deeper understanding and connection.

Even when we have supportive relationships and friendships, it's natural to feel a deep sense of loneliness and longing for a deeper connection. Andy, a 21-year-old individual, shared his struggle with this emotion, which he described as a feeling of not playing a critical role in anyone's life and not having a deep understanding with someone. Despite having a good number of friends and a supportive family, Andy felt a sense of isolation and loneliness that seemed to be a constant presence in his life. He noted that he has been the one doing the helping in deep conversations, and while he appreciates the support he receives, he feels that the conversations lack the depth and understanding he craves. Andy acknowledged that he may not be the critical person in everyone's life, and that it's important to build his own path and find ways to cope with the emotions that arise from his existential thoughts. Ultimately, the conversation highlighted the importance of seeking out deeper connections and understanding in our relationships, even when we may feel like a side character in others' lives.

    • Feeling Unique and Anomalous in RelationshipsDespite not feeling critically irreplaceable in others' lives, the speaker strongly believes that their absence would be deeply felt.

The speaker acknowledges having deep, meaningful relationships with others, but feels that they don't play a critically irreplaceable role in anyone's life. They have received positive feedback from those they care about, but still feel an underlying sense of uniqueness and anomaly. The speaker has experienced love, but is currently trying to move past a past relationship that didn't work out. Despite feeling that they may not be a vital role in others' lives, they strongly disagree with the notion that their absence wouldn't be deeply felt. The conversation also touched on the speaker's personal growth from self-loathing to moderate self-respect.

    • Recognizing the impact of self-care on loved onesSelf-care is crucial for personal well-being and emotional connections. Authentic, empathetic relationships foster deeper understanding and validation.

Self-care is essential not only for our own well-being but also for the peace of mind of those around us. The speaker shared how they came to this realization after recognizing that their absence would significantly impact some family members. They also expressed feeling ununderstood when sharing their deep emotions and experiences with others, leading to a longing for meaningful connections. An example of this was their romantic experiences, where they felt understood when given general advice but craved a deeper level of empathy and validation. This conversation highlights the importance of self-care and the need for authentic, empathetic relationships.

    • Loving someone in a friend's relationshipNavigating love for someone in a friend's relationship is complex and requires clear communication and respect for others' relationships.

Falling in love with someone who is in a relationship with your best friend can be a complex and painful experience. The speaker shared a personal story of being in love with a woman who was in a relationship with his best friend. Despite their eventual breakup, the woman remained close to the speaker due to their friendship. However, the speaker eventually fell in love with her, leading to a falling out when her parents disapproved of their relationship. Throughout their friendship, the woman shared private details with the speaker and expressed her attraction to him, causing tension. The speaker attempted to protect her from a potentially harmful relationship, but his actions were misconstrued and led to their falling out. The experience taught the speaker that unless he had strong feelings for the person he was dating, he couldn't be a good partner. The speaker is now in a predicament where he is too busy to be the partner he wants to be and hasn't found someone he feels competent with. This experience highlights the complexity of romantic relationships and the importance of clear communication and respect for others' relationships.

    • Longing for Intellectual Connection in RomanceSpeaker yearns for deep, intellectual connection in romance but struggles to move on from past relationships, hindering new meaningful connections.

The speaker is expressing a deep longing for a meaningful and intellectual connection in a romantic relationship, which they have not yet found. Despite having strong emotional bonds with friends and family, they feel a sense of emptiness due to not having a critical role or deep connection in a romantic partnership. They acknowledge that they may not fully be over a past relationship, which has made it difficult for them to fully invest in new relationships. The speaker is self-aware and recognizes the need to move on but is struggling with the motivation to do so. They are not defined by their past and are open to new experiences, but the absence of a deep and meaningful connection remains a significant challenge for them.

    • The Complexities of Unrequited LoveSometimes, despite our best efforts, love may not work out. It's essential to respect ourselves and move on when a relationship isn't working, even if it's with someone we deeply care about.

Sometimes, despite our best efforts and intentions, we can't make things work with someone we care about deeply. The speaker in this conversation has been in love with a girl for seven years but has never been able to have a relationship with her due to various circumstances. He's mature and thoughtful about the situation, acknowledging that he may have fallen in love with the wrong person. If she were to suddenly confess her feelings for him, he would take it slow and feel a great deal of pain due to the long history between them. The conversation emphasizes that everyone deserves self-respect and that it's essential to move on when a relationship isn't working. The speaker's ability to acknowledge his feelings and move forward shows maturity and strength. Overall, the conversation highlights the complexities of love and the importance of being true to oneself.

    • Love brings joy and painLove is a human experience with joy and pain, keep trying and don't give up, potential reward worth the risk

Love can be both a source of great joy and intense pain. No matter how much we try to do things right, there will always be moments of heartache and criticism towards the person we love the most. It's a part of the human experience, especially for those who are hopeless romantics. The heart takes time to heal, and it may take longer when we've been in love for a long time. But, the hope is that one day, we will find someone who reciprocates our feelings, making the pain worth it. It's essential to keep trying and not give up, even when it hurts. The idea that doing everything right will prevent suffering is a fallacy. Life is change, and sometimes, it's a catalyst for growth. The person we love may not always love us back, but that doesn't mean we should stop being ourselves or giving up on love. Instead, we should keep putting ourselves out there, even when it's painful, knowing that the potential reward is worth the risk.

    • Embrace authenticity while growingStrive for personal growth, but don't lose authenticity or individuality. Learn from experiences, even the difficult ones, and continue to embrace vulnerability.

It's important to maintain authenticity while also striving for personal growth. The speaker acknowledges the importance of improving oneself, but also values the unique qualities that make individuals who they are. They encourage continuing to be genuine and embracing the bumps in life, rather than becoming calculating or calloused. The world is brighter because of people's individuality, and it's essential not to lose sight of that while still working on becoming better versions of ourselves. The speaker also acknowledges the challenges of personal growth, such as falling in love and making mistakes, but encourages embracing these experiences and learning from them rather than turning away from vulnerability. Overall, the message is to strive for growth while maintaining authenticity and embracing the unique qualities that make us who we are.

Welcome to another Pause podcast episode with Dr. Kimber Del Valle. In this episode, Dr. Kimber explores grief, stress, and loneliness, offering guidance and practical tools to navigate these overwhelming emotions.

Through our breath work, journaling, and getting present with our body sensations, we will cover these three takeaways:

    1. It is normal and expected to feel grief and sadness in response to loss. Whether it's the loss of a loved one or a community, acknowledging these emotions and allowing ourselves to grieve is an important part of the healing process.

    2. Finding a sense of belonging and connection, even in everyday outings, can help alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation. Instead of focusing on what we don't have, we can try to notice the ways we are already connected to others and our surroundings.

    3. Taking time for self-care and reflection is crucial during times of distress. Whether it's through writing, meditation, or simply finding moments to pause and breathe, these practices can help us process our emotions and find clarity amidst difficult situations.

    The Truth About Solo Travel

    The Truth About Solo Travel

"Black woman, travel solo. If you're waiting for somebody to see the world with, stop," many travel influencers insist. "But I don't feel safe traveling alone. I'll be lonely. I'll get so bored. I'm scared," many black women say.

I started traveling solo in 2021 after I moved to Mexico. Prior to that I did group travel, traveled with family and friends, and traveled alone to attend a retreat or self-development course. None of this, in my opinion, is 'true' solo travel.

Now that I've been doing this solo travel thing for a minute, I get what some women feel and fear. In this episode, I share MY truth about solo travel. I share what I see as the pros and cons of venturing out alone. And I get candid about one of the biggest concerns, loneliness, and ways to combat it.
