Authenticity and Enthusiasm: Why Anyone Can Use Them to Do Hard Things Including Building a School from Scratch with Jim Eagen Head of Synapse School in Menlo Park, CA

Authenticity and Enthusiasm: Why Anyone Can Use Them to Do Hard Things Including Building a School from Scratch with Jim Eagen Head of Synapse School in Menlo Park, CA

Jim visited our studio to talk about how he, his team and the Synapse School community built a school from the ground up with an innovate approach to education.

The best way to describe what Synapse is doing is educating Change Makers by focusing keenly on Social-Emotional Learning, innovation and leading edge academics.

Their teachers, who are as committed as they are remarkable, build classroom communities and relationships based on trust, an essential ingredient in teaching and learning, while they cultivate in their students curiosity, creativity and risk-taking.

Most importantly, they are about helping human beings be better human beings.

Listen in for this fun, "educational" conversation.

    ABOUT JIM EAGEN
Jim Eagen believes that when schools and their leaders focus less on what to change and more importantly, embrace constant change in order to develop the critical skills of implementing change, transformation in education is possible. Jim has enjoyed a wonderful 35 year career in independent schools, first as a student, then as classroom teacher, coach, and administrator, and now, in his 11th year, as the Head of School at Synapse, a one-of-kind K-8 lab school in Menlo Park with a signature project based curriculum and brain-based framework.

Synapse has grown exponentially in size and impact under his leadership and has earned a reputation for being a place where students, teachers and families thrive in large part due to Jim’s vision and energy.

When not at Synapse, presenting about Synapse, or talking to just about anyone who
will listen to him about Synapse, he can often be found on a ride, on a run, or laughing and learning with his wife, dog, and their two kids, a college senior and a high school senior.

The JFK Assassination with US Army Special Operations Veteran John Kuhn

New evidence of a second bullet changes the story of the John F. Kennedy assassination. We discuss the significance.

    About the Conversation
In John Kuhn's 20 year career in Army Special Operations he has personally been on the front lines of world events and has been required to know history and politics in a way that not many have because of the operational nature of his profession.

He is one of the most well read people I know and we always have enlightening conversations together on a wide range of subjects, from the US economy, politics, love, life, the media, to US and world history, when we catch up every few weeks.

We always come out of the conversations with a deeper understanding, sometimes a different viewpoint, and always richer in our understanding.

We decided to do share some of these conversations with you and know you'll leave richer as well.

    ABOUT JOHN KUHN
John Kuhn served 20-years in U.S. Army special operations, five years in the 75th Ranger Regiment and fifteen years as an operational member in the U.S. Army’s Special Mission Counterterrorism Unit.

After the September 11 attacks, he served in multiple task forces in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, and the Horn of Africa.

He earned the Silver Star, six Bronze Stars, including one for valor, an Army Commendation Medal for valor, and two Purple Hearts.

Upon retirement from the Army, he attended Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, where he earned a graduate degree in business management.

Since then, he co-founded an animated training technology company.  He also helps select high net worth customers with niche security concerns.
