    Podcast Summary

    • LinkedIn's Significance for Small Businesses and Weight Loss Solutions on PlushCareLinkedIn is a popular hiring platform for small businesses, while PlushCare offers online access to physicians for weight loss solutions. However, it's crucial to be aware of potential controversies surrounding certain organizations, like OneTaste, before engaging with them.

LinkedIn is an essential platform for small businesses looking to hire professionals, as over 70% of LinkedIn users don't visit other leading job sites. Meanwhile, for those seeking weight loss solutions, PlushCare offers online access to board-certified physicians who can prescribe FDA-approved medications. However, a cautionary tale comes from the San Francisco-based organization OneTaste, which has been accused of sexual, emotional, and psychological abuse. Despite this, Megan Agnew, a news features writer at The Sunday Times, went to interview their leader, Nicole Dodone, at their 160-acre compound, known as "The Land." Agnew was open-minded but found the experience slightly unsettling after reading and hearing about the allegations. The organization, which practices orgasmic meditation, denies these allegations and is currently suing the BBC, Netflix, and former members for defamation.

    • An Uneasy Welcome at the OrganomiconThe Organomicon, a startup for orgasm meditation, raised concerns with its intrusive practices and potential misuse of power, based on a journalist's experiences.

The Organomicon, a West Coast orgasm meditation startup, transformed from a seemingly harmless and kooky community into a dark and potentially criminal organization. Upon arriving at the rural, beautiful land in Northern California, the investigative journalist and photographer were met with friendliness but also unease. They were separated upon arrival and found their living quarters to be lacking in privacy. The organizers, like Barb, were overly attentive, making small gestures that felt intrusive. The journalist's belongings were moved, and she was escorted everywhere. Despite the seemingly idyllic setting, the lack of control and constant surveillance created an unsettling atmosphere. It's important to note that this account is based on the journalist's experiences and the allegations against Nicole Desdawn. Regular attendees may have had different experiences. The investigation ultimately raised concerns about the nature of the organization and its potential misuse of power.

    • Exploring Personal Power and Self-Expression through Orgasmic MeditationOrgasmic Meditation, a unique practice founded by Nicole Dadone, offers a structured form of meditation focused on personal power and self-expression, attracting a dedicated following including celebrities.

Nicole Dadone, a Californian academic turned spiritual wellness coach, founded Orgasmic Meditation (OM), a unique practice marketed as a structured form of meditation rather than a sexual act. OM gained popularity through media attention and celebrity endorsements, leading to the growth of courses and coaching opportunities. For participants, OM offers a space to explore personal power and self-expression, away from the distractions of everyday life. During her sessions, Nicole, dressed in celestial attire, speaks about women's empowerment and the discovery of one's true self. Despite its unconventional nature, OM has attracted a dedicated following, including notable figures like Khloe Kardashian and Gwyneth Paltrow.

    • One Taste's Troubled PastOnce a thriving organization, One Taste faced allegations of being a cult and a sex trafficking ring in 2018. The organization denied these allegations but went into hibernation mode. In 2023, the FBI raided the organization and arrested the head of sales and a senior executive, and the founder, Nicole, was later arrested on forced labor charges.

One Taste, now known as the Institute of Ulm, was once a thriving organization with significant revenue and a large following. However, it faced allegations of being a cult and a sex trafficking ring in 2018. The organization denied these allegations but went into hibernation mode, shutting down their houses and stopping the sale of courses. In 2018, the company was sold to new owners for $12,000,000, and by the time of the allegations, Nicole, the founder, had no financial attachment to the company. In June 2023, the FBI raided the organization's land and arrested the head of sales and a senior executive, and Nicole was later arrested on forced labor charges. The organization has denied all charges and is trying to have the indictment dismissed. They have also sued the BBC, Netflix, and a former member. The organization's reputation and future are uncertain as legal proceedings continue.

    • A Complex Community at the 'Our Moment' RetreatThe 'Our Moment' retreat community is a diverse group led by Angelie and Austin Ayers, with Nicole as the revered founder. Operations are complex, with significant resources spent on legal cases, but the group's commitment to Nicole's vision remains strong.

The community at the land where the "Our Moment" (OM) retreat takes place is a complex ecosystem run by its senior members who have diverse roles, from lawyers and social media managers to creative directors and nonprofit workers. The current owners, Angelie and Austin Ayers, have assumed leadership roles, with Angelie as the CEO and Austin providing support. The group, which includes Nicole, the founder, values her vision and reveres her, creating a convivial atmosphere reminiscent of a university campus or summer camp. Despite the simplicity of the retreat's message of "home," the community's operations are far from straightforward, with vast amounts of money being spent on legal cases. The community's members live and work on the land, sharing meals and living quarters. The food is provided and cooked on-site. The group's dynamic is unique, with Nicole being treated as one of them while being deeply respected and revered. Despite the disorientation felt during the visit, the retreat's operations demonstrate the depth and complexity of the community's commitment to Nicole's vision.

    • Blue Nile's lab-grown diamonds and Mint Mobile's affordable wireless plansBlue Nile offers discounted lab-grown diamonds, while Mint Mobile provides affordable wireless plans, but Megan raises concerns over an 'orgasmic meditation' session's similarity to sexual activities

Blue Nile.com offers beautiful and scientifically produced lab-grown diamonds, identical to natural ones, with a $50 discount using the promo code "listen" on purchases over $500. Meanwhile, Mint Mobile, with Ryan Reynolds, offers affordable wireless plans at just $15 a month. In a different context, Megan shared her experience of observing an "orgasmic meditation" session, which is not sexual as claimed by its founders. Despite the denial, the session appeared to resemble sexual activities, leaving Megan feeling concerned. The participants, lying down with their legs spread, were guided to reach an orgasmic state, and afterwards, they shared their experiences. The sessions were quiet and involved heavy breathing and some noises. The group's founder, Nicole, no longer participates in the group's sessions but does them privately with her partner. The sessions include a few minutes of feedback after each session.

    • A woman's conflicting experience with 'OneTaste' or 'orgasmic meditation'Despite initial confusion and challenges, a woman found visiting 'OneTaste' helped her gain a new perspective on the controversial practice, which was marketed as non-sexual but felt sexual and addictive to her.

The practice of "OneTaste" or "orgasmic meditation," as some call it, is a controversial and complex topic. According to a woman who shared her experience, it was marketed as a non-sexual practice, but she believed it was used to control people and was, in fact, a sexual practice. She described feeling addicted to the ecstasy and the post-coital feeling after sessions. During her visit to Nicole, the founder, she found her to be initially withdrawn but later harder in demeanor. The woman expressed that she wanted to understand the purpose of the community and its practices, but found it difficult to make sense of it all. The use of the word "cult" was embraced by Nicole, who saw it as a positive term. Despite the confusion and challenges, the woman believed that visiting the community helped her gain a new perspective and understanding.

    • The allure of the unknown can lead to complex experiencesInvestigating a controversial retreat, Megan Agnew was drawn in by the allure of the unknown, experiencing a complex web of desires, pleasures, and potential risks.

The allure of a place, no matter how unusual or controversial, can be powerful enough to draw people in and keep them there, despite the potential for destabilizing experiences. Megan Agnew, a news feature writer for The Sunday Times, shared her personal experience investigating a controversial retreat, which some accused of being a prostitution ring. Despite the initial shock and confusion, Megan was drawn deeper into the story, seeking to understand the experiences of those involved. The individuals she spoke with saw the retreat as an ultimate act of sovereignty, following their own desires and pleasures. However, former members described it as a cult that brainwashed them and took away their instincts, leading to a deep sense of loss. The complexity of the situation left Megan questioning the motivations of those involved and the true nature of the retreat. Ultimately, the experience left her reflecting on the power of personal desire and the potential risks that come with seeking to understand the unknown.
