    Podcast Summary

    • The Triple Click team shares their annual predictions for 2022They discussed their reflections on previous year's predictions, announced the contest winner, shared their forecasts for the Super Bowl, midterm elections, and anticipated games, and encouraged listeners to support the podcast.

The Triple Click team, consisting of Jason Schreyer, Kirk Hamilton, and Maddie Myers, discussed their annual predictions for the year 2022. They began by reflecting on their predictions from the previous year and announcing the winner of their annual contest, who gets to choose the video game for the losing team to play. They then shared their predictions for the Super Bowl, midterm elections, and anticipated games for 2022. They encouraged listeners to support their podcast by becoming MaxFun members for access to bonus content. The team also mentioned their recent bonus episodes on The Matrix and fantasy football league. The contest rule is that predictions must be based on publicly available information, and the losing team must play the chosen game.

    • Making accurate video game predictions is a challengePredictions must be based on facts, not rumors or subjective opinions. Disputes are settled by majority vote, and some predictions are considered undisputed wins or losses based on available information.

Making accurate video game predictions is a challenging task. The speakers in this discussion made various predictions for games and events that would occur in 2021, but they acknowledged that none of their predictions could be based on rumors or obvious information. They also noted that subjective predictions, such as a game being good, were not allowed. Each prediction could be worth one point, and disputes would be settled by a 2/3 majority vote. Some predictions, such as Sony buying Bluepoint, were considered undisputed wins. Others, like Hogwarts Legacy featuring a pro-trans message, were considered losses because the game had not yet been released and the feature could still be removed. The speakers also discussed the difficulty of predicting the availability of the PS5 and the potential impact of developers' decisions on their predictions. Overall, the discussion highlighted the uncertainties and complexities involved in making video game predictions.

    • Predictions in gaming industry can be uncertainDespite best efforts, making precise predictions in gaming industry can be challenging due to unpredictable nature and inherent risks.

Making precise predictions in the realm of video games can be challenging due to the unpredictable nature of the industry. During a discussion, several predictions were made for various gaming events and releases in 2020 and 2021. Some predictions, like the release of Breath of the Wild 2 and at least one ZeniMax game announcement, did not come to pass. Other predictions, such as the announcement of Microsoft xCloud for the Switch and Netflix adding game streaming to their service, were also incorrect. Additionally, some predictions, like the release of a new Switch model named Switch 2, were not quite accurate but close in retrospect. The discussion highlighted the importance of being meticulous with wording and the unpredictability of the gaming industry. Overall, the outcome serves as a reminder that while making predictions can be fun, they come with inherent risks and uncertainties.

    • Predictions that didn't come true in gaming industry in 2021Despite several predictions, the gaming industry in 2021 proved to be unpredictable with many events and releases defying expectations

Several gaming predictions made in 2021 did not come true. Among these were Valve announcing a new non-VR Half Life game in 2022, at least two major games being fully cancelled, Epic winning lawsuits against Apple and Google, a Republican starting to stream video games, and a VTuber going rogue against their company. Some predictions, like the pandemic continuing indefinitely and E3 not happening in 2021, were partially correct but not entirely. Others, like Zelda being playable in Breath of the Wild 2, were based on incorrect assumptions. Overall, the gaming industry in 2021 proved to be unpredictable, with many events and releases defying expectations.

    • Discussions around video game predictionsPredictions, whether accurate or not, can spark intriguing conversations and reveal valuable insights about the video game industry and its future trends.

Predictions, even if not entirely accurate, can lead to interesting discussions and discoveries. The discussion covered various predictions made about video games, companies, and events, some of which came true, some didn't, but all provided valuable insights. For instance, the prediction about Elden Ring not getting a trailer this year turned out to be incorrect, but it was amusing to imagine the potential consequences. Similarly, the prediction about Nintendo not announcing a Switch Pro was correct, but the conversation also touched upon the Switch OLED and the Chewy acquisition of GameStop, which added to the overall conversation. Another prediction, that Hogwarts Legacy would include a gesture in favor of trans rights, was not mentioned in the discussion, but it serves as a reminder that predictions can sometimes lead to important social issues being acknowledged. Overall, the conversation demonstrated the excitement and anticipation surrounding video games and the joy of making predictions and engaging in lively discussions about them.

    • Discussing Suikoden 2 and gaming predictionsThe group is excitedly planning to play Suikoden 2 together and predicts events in the gaming industry like the cancellation of Star Wars Eclipse, release of Silksong, shutdown of Apple Arcade, and a Destiny TV series. They also anticipate an NFT game announcement or release and subsequent cancellation.

The group is looking forward to playing Suikoden 2 together, as they've enjoyed parts of it so far. They plan to coordinate timing and possibly stream or play a combination of the campaign and multiplayer. The combat is considered easier than Final Fantasy 6, making the experience more enjoyable. Additionally, predictions were made about the cancellation of Star Wars Eclipse, the release and reveal of Silksong, the shutdown of Apple Arcade, and a TV series adaptation of the original Destiny game. A major publisher's NFT game announcement or release and subsequent cancellation within 2-4 months was also predicted. The group's excitement for these topics was emphasized, despite some reservations and criticisms.

    • Predictions for the Gaming Industry in 2022's Second HalfMicrosoft announcing a new Xbox console, Activision's Bobby Kotick remaining as CEO, Madden 23 featuring John Madden on the cover, new projects from Sony Santa Monica and Guerrilla Games, and a potential cancellation of an NFT-based game.

The gaming industry is expected to see significant announcements and releases in the coming months. These predictions include Microsoft announcing a new Xbox console, Bobby Kotick still being CEO of Activision, and Madden 23 having John Madden on the cover, potentially alone. Additionally, both Sony Santa Monica and Guerrilla Games are expected to announce new projects. The cancellation of a game due to being fully NFT-based and play-to-earn is also a notable prediction. While some predictions may seem obvious, others involve unique twists, such as John Madden being the sole cover star with no football references. Overall, the gaming industry is poised for excitement and innovation in the second half of 2022.

    • Predictions for major gaming announcements in 2023Guerrilla Games may announce a new Killzone game, Nintendo could release Zelda games as a double pack or separately, and other predictions include Disney canceling Star Wars Eclipse, Silksong's re-reveal and release, Apple Arcade shutting down, and Microsoft announcing a new Xbox console. Nintendo might also announce a more powerful Switch model.

Both Guerrilla Games and Nintendo have major announcements coming up this year, beyond the releases of Horizon and potential Zelda remakes or remasters. Guerrilla Games is predicted to announce another project, possibly a new Killzone game, while Nintendo faces the challenge of deciding whether to release the Zelda games as a double pack or separately. These predictions come with some uncertainty, as they are based on rumors and wishful thinking. Other notable predictions include Disney canceling Star Wars Eclipse, Silksong's re-reveal and release, Apple Arcade shutting down, and Microsoft announcing a new Xbox console. Nintendo's potential announcement of a more powerful Switch model adds to the excitement. Overall, the gaming industry is expected to have a busy year with numerous major announcements and releases.

    • Technology Industry Challenges and Predictions for 2022Nintendo Switch may have an unexpected name, Hollow Knight Silksong's release date might be announced, PlayStation Fives and new PC graphics cards scarcity continues, a new Matrix game could be announced, and a major video game publisher could unionize.

The technology industry will continue facing challenges in 2022, with supply chain issues persisting and major announcements, such as new console models and game releases, potentially being delayed. Regarding specific predictions, the Nintendo Switch may not be called the "Switch 4k Model" but rather something unexpected, Hollow Knight Silksong's release date might be announced, and the scarcity of PlayStation Fives and new PC graphics cards is likely to continue. Additionally, a new in-canon Matrix game may be announced, and a significant group at a major video game publisher, other than Blizzard or Activision Blizzard, could successfully vote to unionize.

    • Predictions for the Future of GamingElden Ring connected to A Song of Ice and Fire, Valve's Steam subscription, new blockchain game, Rock Band return, PlayStation 5 Bloodborne remake

Several intriguing predictions were discussed during this conversation, covering various aspects of the gaming industry. Here are the key predictions: 1. Elden Ring's world will be connected to A Song of Ice and Fire. 2. Valve will introduce a Steam subscription service. 3. A new video game will use blockchain technology in an innovative way. 4. Harmonix will bring back Rock Band in some form. 5. Bluepoint will create a PlayStation 5 Bloodborne remake for Sony. These predictions cover a range of topics, from game adaptations and subscriptions to innovative technology and remakes. Some predictions, like the connection between Elden Ring and A Song of Ice and Fire, offer exciting possibilities for fans of both franchises. Others, like Valve's Steam subscription service, could significantly impact the gaming industry as a whole. Overall, these predictions showcase the excitement and anticipation surrounding the future of gaming.

    • Predictions for Future Nintendo Switch Upgrades and Upcoming ProjectsA Switch Pro could offer improved performance and exclusive games, while a Switch successor would be a whole new console. Breath of the Wild 2 is predicted to come out in 2022, but this is unconfirmed. Predictions include a Princess Peach game, an animated Mario movie with a drug reference, and the Master Chief TV show.

There are different types of upgrades we might see for the Nintendo Switch in the future, and the distinction between a Switch Pro (a hardware refresh) and a Switch successor (a completely new console) is an important one. While a Switch Pro could offer improved performance and potentially some exclusive games, it would still be able to play all the same games as the current Switch. A Switch successor, on the other hand, would be a whole new console with its own exclusive games. Another key prediction is that Breath of the Wild 2 is expected to come out in 2022, but this is a bold prediction as it has not been officially confirmed yet. Additionally, there are some intriguing predictions about upcoming media projects, such as a Princess Peach game, an animated Mario movie with a drug reference, and the Master Chief TV show with the actor's face hidden. Lastly, it was predicted that by this time next year, it would be easy to buy a PS5 or an Xbox Series X, but this is a risky prediction as supply chain issues and high demand continue to make these consoles hard to find.

    • Predictions for the gaming industry in 2023The Steam Deck launch could face challenges, NFTs may fail in gaming, and a second black female character could be announced in Overwatch 2

The launch of the Steam Deck may face significant challenges, potentially resulting in delays or issues that negatively impact the user experience. Delays could be due to supply chain issues, and problems could range from major hardware failures to controversy or lack of compatibility with a significant portion of games. Another prediction is that by this time next year, NFTs will be considered a failed trend in gaming, with at least three major studios publicly abandoning their pursuit of NFTs. Lastly, a prediction about Overwatch 2 was made, suggesting that a second black female character will be announced. However, it's important to note that these predictions are based on current information and are subject to change.

    • New game announcements and developments in gaming industryNintendo introduces new Princess Peach game, Mario movie may contain controversial joke, Master Chief TV show hides face, PS 5 and Xbox Series X standalone options, Steam Deck launch may face issues, NFTs predicted to fail, Overwatch 2 introduces second black female character, potential sentient video game character

The gaming industry is expected to see significant announcements and developments over the next year. Nintendo will introduce a new game featuring Princess Peach, while the Mario animated movie may include a controversial joke. The Master Chief TV show will keep Master Chief's face hidden, and gamers will have the option to buy just the PS 5 or Xbox Series X by this time next year. However, the Steam Deck's launch may be problematic, and NFTs are predicted to be a failed trend. Overwatch 2 will introduce a second playable black female character. One ridiculous prediction is that a video game character will gain sentience and declare independence. The hosts also shared their personal "tiny victories" to celebrate small achievements. Overall, the gaming industry is expected to face both challenges and exciting advancements in the coming year.

    • Waiting for Game Updates: Anticipation and DisappointmentPeople express frustration over waiting for significant game updates, using Cyberpunk 2077 as an example. Anticipation for these updates can lead to both excitement and potential disappointment.

Several people, including Kirk, are experiencing frustration over waiting for significant updates to improve their gaming experiences, using Cyberpunk 2077 as an example. Kirk expresses his eagerness to play the game but holds back due to anticipation for upcoming updates. This feeling of anticipation and potential disappointment is reminiscent of the wait for Cyberpunk 2077's initial release. Maddie shares a similar sentiment, mentioning her excitement for the upcoming updates and her past experiences with CD Projekt RED. Additionally, Maddie introduces a new game called Wordle, which has gained popularity on Twitter, as a simple yet addictive word guessing game that can be played only once a day.

    • Wordle: A Daily Word GameWordle is a daily word game that offers a balance of challenge and relaxation with its unique daily puzzle constraint, social aspect, and minimal investment.

Wordle, a daily word game, offers a perfect balance of challenge and relaxation. Its unique constraint of only one puzzle per day prevents burnout while keeping players engaged. The game's simplicity and social aspect, as seen in Discord channels, make it an enjoyable addition to daily routines. Unlike time-consuming games like Final Fantasy 14, Wordle requires minimal investment but still offers the satisfaction of problem-solving with words. For word enthusiasts, it's an excellent way to hone skills and connect with others. Additionally, the game's accessibility and free availability make it a great recommendation for anyone looking for a simple yet rewarding mental exercise.

    • Final Fantasy 14 vs Destiny 2: A World of DifferenceFinal Fantasy 14 offers a rich, immersive gaming experience with an extensive storyline and content, requiring a much greater time investment compared to Destiny 2.

Final Fantasy 14 and Destiny 2 are vastly different games in terms of content and commitment required. While Destiny 2 has a similar gameplay mechanics structure, Final Fantasy 14's appeal lies in its intricate storyline and extensive content, which can take hundreds of hours to explore fully. Some players have even spent thousands of hours on the game due to the variety of classes and the depth of the side quests. The level of commitment and time investment required for Final Fantasy 14 is significantly greater than that of Destiny 2, making it a different world for podcast discussion. Final Fantasy 14 offers an incredibly rich and immersive gaming experience, but it comes with a much higher time investment than Destiny 2.

    16. Ron Gilbert

    16. Ron Gilbert
Ron Gilbert is a legend in the video game industry. He designed the PC classics Maniac Mansion, The Secret of Monkey Island and other successful point and click adventure games and created the SCUMM scripting language. Arguable the best thing about Ron's games is his strong comedic voice. Ron's games ooze humor. I could have spoke with Ron about his several decades long career in gaming, his comedic influences or his upcoming game, Thimbleweed Park due out in early 2017, but instead we sat in silence for 25 minutes. Ron used that time to work on Thimbleweed Park while I folded my laundry.
