How can personal standards impact relationship perceptions?
What challenges do women face regarding commitment?
What is emphasized as key for healthy relationships?

    Podcast Summary

    • Assumptions based on intimacy can be misleadingIntimacy doesn't guarantee shared intentions or feelings. Open communication is crucial to avoid misunderstandings and heartache.

Assuming certain outcomes based on shared physical or emotional intimacy can be misleading and potentially harmful in relationships. The speaker emphasizes that there's no guarantee that having sex or being emotionally intimate with someone automatically means they have the same intentions or feelings. It's essential to have open and honest conversations about expectations and intentions to avoid misunderstandings and potential heartache. The speaker also suggests being aware of personal standards and emotions to avoid falling into the trap of assuming a relationship is more serious than it may be based on shared intimacy alone.

    • Recognizing Manipulative Behaviors in RelationshipsBe aware of potential manipulative behaviors in relationships, take responsibility for own emotions, set boundaries, communicate openly, and prioritize emotional well-being.

While deep connections and communication are important in relationships, it's crucial to be aware of potential manipulative behaviors. Some people may use comfort and attention as a means to create a false sense of intimacy without being committed. It's essential to protect ourselves by recognizing that everyone has different standards for relationships and communication. The speaker emphasizes the importance of taking responsibility for our own emotions and not assuming that someone's actions mean more than they intend. While it's natural to want to believe that deep conversations and emotional connections indicate a serious relationship, it's important to be mindful of the possibility that some people may use these tactics to take advantage of others. Ultimately, it's up to each individual to set boundaries, communicate openly, and prioritize their own emotional well-being.

    • Media and societal norms perpetuate the idea of casual relationships for men, pressure on women for commitmentUnderstanding intentions and expectations in relationships is essential to avoid misunderstandings and hurt feelings.

In today's culture, people, particularly men, are encouraged to enjoy the benefits of intimate relationships without the commitment or responsibility that often comes with them. The media and societal norms perpetuate this notion that it's cool for men to have multiple partners or casual encounters, while women face pressure to play the perfect game of chess to secure a commitment. This dynamic can make it challenging for individuals to navigate relationships and determine when there's genuine intent. The ease of modern communication and the prevalence of hookup culture further enable people to engage in these behaviors without facing the consequences of exclusivity or commitment. Ultimately, it's crucial to have open and honest conversations about intentions and expectations in relationships to avoid misunderstandings and hurt feelings.

    • Struggling with commitment in relationships: Men vs WomenBoth genders face commitment struggles, but women may feel more pressure. Clear communication, respect, and understanding are crucial for healthy relationships.

Both men and women can struggle with commitment in relationships, but the power dynamic often favors men, allowing them to take their time while women may feel the pressure to wait and not appear needy. This dynamic can lead to frustration and uncertainty for women, but it's essential to set standards and expectations for behavior in any relationship. It's not the answer to only pursue relationships with those who are head over heels in love, but rather to approach each situation with clear communication and a commitment to respect and value each other's time and emotions. Ultimately, the key is to prioritize healthy, respectful relationships built on mutual understanding and trust.

    • Be cautious if someone makes you feel crazy for seeking relationship clarityIf someone demands too much without offering equal commitment, reconsider the relationship.

If someone in a relationship or potential relationship is making you feel crazy for seeking answers about the future of the relationship, be cautious. It's natural to want clarity after a certain amount of time and investment. However, the key is not about the time elapsed, but rather the leverage you have in the situation. If the other person is consistently asking for more of your time, affection, and intimacy, you have the power to set terms for the relationship. If you're not in a committed relationship or not interested in building one, you shouldn't feel obligated to provide these things for free. Ultimately, if someone demands too much of you without offering equal commitment or effort, it may be time to reassess the relationship.

    • Importance of clear communication in relationshipsEffective communication is crucial for success in relationships, whether personal or professional. Seek clarity, share visions, and take advantage of opportunities for growth.

Effective communication is key in any relationship, whether it's a potential romantic connection or a professional coaching engagement. During the discussion, the speaker expressed a desire for further exploration of a potential relationship, emphasizing the importance of both parties being on the same page and having a shared vision for the future. Additionally, the speaker encouraged listeners to take advantage of upcoming opportunities for personal growth, such as the virtual retreat mentioned, which can help individuals move forward in their lives. Overall, the conversation underscored the importance of open communication, self-reflection, and taking action towards personal and relational growth.

259: How to Get Over Narcissists, Cheating, and Heartbreak...the RIGHT Way

When you've been betrayed or hurt by someone, you can often ask yourself, "How did I miss the red flags?".

And in this reaction you may end up blaming yourself. Especially if you feel like there's a recurring pattern in the people you've chosen to date so far. So what is the role of our own responsibility when we date people who hurt us? And how do we practice self-forgiveness and compassion for ourselves so we don't get caught in a trap of endlessly beating ourselves up for someone else's bad behavior?

In this episode Matt, Stephen and Audrey discuss the role of self-compassion vs. accountability, dealing with betrayal, and how to move on from heartbreak the right way.

What do football and marriage have in common? The game is won with the connection and so is marriage. Reconnect with your spouse and reignite the passion.

If you are married, your everyday Super Bowl is your marriage. But unfortunately, we do not put the time and practice in to win the everyday Super Bowl.

We let life happen and react accordingly to our moods and feelings, which all can mislead us.

Do you think Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes get up excited every morning wanting to get to practice and workout?

Of course not! They are human. But the difference is, Brady and Mahomes are committed to connecting with their receivers. The more completions, the better the results.

A better marriage comes with much practice and dedication.

The key is connection. So it's time to put in the work and reconnect with your spouse.

The K.I.S.S. ~ Reconnect with your spouse!

Something that seems so simple can be the most challenging. Think of all the stuff in life that gets in the way of your relationship. If I was to list everything right now, we would be here for hours.

However, if you want that Super Bowl marriage every day, you have to be willing to put in the practice so when it's game time, you never miss a throw or catch.

Let's break down some game plans for your marriage just as Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady have done every successful season of their careers.

What does it look like to reconnect with your spouse?

    1. Physically connect - Think of this as the fond bond of your physical touch.
    2. Strategically connect - It's important to know your spouse and have a game plan to connect the way he/she wants to be connected.
    3.  Emotionally connect - It's easy to get trapped in your own stuff and forget about the spouse you're doing life with. Be intentional about connecting emotionally. This means you have to work on your empathy. And that takes lots of practice.

Please understand that marriage takes work. But in the long run, every day becomes the opportunity to win the Super Bowl. And isn't that worth it all?

Remember, you're playing on the same team. So get your plan together and reconnect with your spouse.

1995 How to Bring Back Passion in Your Marriage

It can be so easy for life to get in the way of your marriage. Don't fall flat with the one you love. Learn how to bring back passion in your marriage.

Because who really wants to hang out with a grumpy, tired spouse?

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACThttp://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT

Most of us would say, "Not me!"

Yet we have to be realistic. Life is SO busy and the schedule is SO packed, where do you find the time for passion?

    And what is passion?

Passion is strong emotions reflecting an intense desire or boundless enthusiasm.

You want to be around your spouse!

But over time, we lose that if we don't practice it. Yes!

"Passion needs to be practiced to stay active." ~ Kristianne Wargo

If you don't practice it, your days get old and then your habits run your days.

So how can you bring back passion in your marriage?

The K.I.S.S. ~ Throw out the comfort!

Passion doesn't live in habits, because habits you do without thinking about it. Passion requires energy, enthusiasm, and desire. Plus, habits are comfortable.

    Throw out the comfort.

    1. Connect daily. Hold hands. Greet each other in the morning and in the evening.
    2. Date weekly. Set time aside for each other.
    3. Laugh often. Laughter is music to the ears and rhythm to the heart.
    4. Surprise unexpectedly. Change up when and where you have your intimate moments. Find ways to surprise because you can. Every day can be so predictable. Change it up!
    5. Love always. Loving in a way your spouse receives it.

Passion doesn't have to fade. Passion can grow.

CHALLENGE: How can you show your spouse you love him/her?

181.The Importance of Family and How to Stay in Touch

181.The Importance of Family and How to Stay in Touch

Greg and I now have adult kids and as this article and episode is released, holidays are approaching. Top of mind for us is our commitment to the importance of family. There are no cut and dry answers to dealing with families and extended family members. This is especially true as spouses and kids multiply the teetering feeling so many have on balancing a somewhat treacherous tightrope. Full article here: https://goalsforyourlife.com/blog/importance-of-family

Our commitment has not waned for the importance of family in our lives and we have found there are some principles that help us maneuver this coordination. These mindsets and principles are fairly universal and can be applied to other relationships as well, personal and professional. I’ll cover three principles: flexibility and expectations, commitment to the process and creating universal events.

    • Managing children at home, exhaustion and a busy work life
