    Podcast Summary

    • The Power of a SmileSmiling can improve mental and physical wellbeing, boost energy, and aid in sleep. Practice smiling regularly to enhance overall health and happiness.

The simple act of smiling can have a profound impact on both your mental and physical wellbeing. Take a moment to focus on yourself, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and spread a genuine smile across your face. Feel the warmth of the smile spread from your cheeks to your chest, down your arms and legs, and out of your fingertips and toes. Let the smile grow and glow, and when you're ready, draw it back to your chest and open your eyes. Carry this smile with you throughout your day, using it to energize your thoughts and activities. If you're having trouble sleeping, don't hesitate to try a guided sleep session on Amazon Echo. Remember, a smile is a powerful tool that can help you navigate even the most challenging days. So, keep smiling!

The award-winning movie Alive Inside (2014) inspired a five-year research project that is documenting the effects of a personalized music intervention for those with dementia. Dr. Coryse St. Hillaire-Clarke of The National Institute on Aging (NIA) explains the project, which is funded by an NIA grant. We discuss other studies and developments in music interventions for dementia, including two exciting opportunities to be personally involved in policies and research on the topic. The NIA is the primary Federal agency supporting and conducting Alzheimer's disease research, which falls within the NIA's broader scientific effort to extend the healthy, active years of life.
