    Podcast Summary

    • Unexpected moments can lead to memorable experiencesLife's unpleasant moments can become cherished memories when shared with friends and embraced with humor and resilience.

Life's unexpected moments, even the unpleasant ones, can lead to memorable experiences. Hannah's story from their trip to Ibiza is a perfect example. The group's hangover led Hannah to an embarrassing yet relieving moment of projectile vomiting over the side of the boat. Although it was an unpleasant experience, she shared it with her friends and later joined in on the fun activities. The incident became a topic of conversation and a shared memory among the group. The story serves as a reminder that life's ups and downs are all part of the journey, and we should embrace them with a sense of humor and resilience.

    • Finding humor in embarrassing situationsUnexpected life situations can be memorable when we find humor in them, and sharing those experiences can bring joy to others.

Life can surprise us with unexpected and embarrassing situations, but finding humor in them can make the memories even more memorable. Hannah shared a story about being surrounded by her own vomit after being affected by her friend's garlic breath while trying to get back on a boat. Meanwhile, Danielle had an amusing experience when her partner mistook her menstrual cup for a regular cup and tried to drink from it. These stories illustrate the importance of finding humor in the absurdities of life and sharing those experiences with others. Additionally, Hannah mentioned her love for the podcast and her upcoming wedding, while Danielle recommended using a menstrual cup and shared a funny anecdote about it.

    • Navigating a Hen Night While PregnantEffective communication and planning can help hide a pregnancy during a hen night, ensuring a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Hiding a pregnancy during a hen night can be a challenging situation, but it's possible with some planning and communication. The speaker is pregnant and worried about attending her best friend's hen night, which includes a cocktail making class and lots of drinking games. She's the maid of honor and doesn't want to ruin her friend's weekend or have her looking out for her. The speaker considers confiding in another pregnant friend but ultimately decides to tell the bride and ask her to keep it a secret. She also suggests telling the barman that she's pregnant and asking for non-alcoholic drinks. The speaker shares her past experience of doing this and assures that it's easy to hide not drinking once everyone gets drunk. Overall, the key takeaway is that open communication and planning can help navigate challenging situations during pregnancy.

    • Navigating Awkward Moments with FriendsFriends support us through embarrassing situations, helping us navigate life's awkward moments with humor and openness.

The discussion also touched on other topics, including pregnancy, accents, and a serious question about how blind people know when to stop wiping after a poo. The hosts provided their thoughts on the matter, emphasizing the importance of feeling the right texture to know when to stop. The podcast also received messages from listeners, sharing their own experiences and expressing their love for the show. Overall, the conversation highlights the importance of friendship, humor, and openness in dealing with life's awkward moments.

    • Leaving toxic relationships and finding happinessFocus on finding kind and loving partners, leave abusive relationships, and prioritize self-care and support networks

She emphasized that not all people are abusive and encouraged the listener to keep searching for a kind and loving partner. The speaker also shared her own struggles as a single mother and the importance of having a supportive network of family and friends. She admitted to lying to her mother about having a heavy workload to get some time to herself and felt guilty about it. Overall, the discussion highlighted the importance of self-care, leaving toxic relationships, and having a strong support system.

    • Confessions of secret self-care activitiesMothers should not feel guilty for practicing self-care, such as taking naps or engaging in joyful activities, as it's crucial for mental and physical well-being.

Self-care, in the form of taking naps or indulging in activities that bring joy, is essential for mothers and should not be met with guilt. The discussion revolved around the confession of taking secret naps and discovering old workout videos as sources of motivation. The speakers acknowledged the societal stigma surrounding these actions but emphasized their importance in maintaining mental and physical well-being. The shared experience resonated with many mothers, highlighting the need to prioritize self-care amidst the demands of daily life.

ep 6: "Sorry not sorry" & other sh*t you should actually be sorry for

Welcome back, friends! This week Deanna & Frances are talking about apologies. All kinds of, "I"m sorry." Apologies that are long overdue, apologies that never come and apologies for sh*t we shouldn't actually feel sorry about.

(2:05) Deanna talks about apologizing for something she posted on Instagram that upset some followers. She also talks about the importance of dropping our ego, acknowledging when we inadvertently screw up on social media and how to fix it. (5:15) Frances & Deanna "nerd out" a bit and talk about Dialectical Behavior Therapy techniques in managing relationships during disagreements.

(9:35) Deanna talks about how she deals with trolls on the Internet. (11:00) Frances gives tips about how to be the bigger person during an argument and talks (14:10) about times when you should have said you were sorry but didn't. When someone calls us "emotional" as an insult (16:20) and how we dealt with it in our 20's. (18:30) Dating, "ghosting" people and telling people when you are no longer interested. Parenthood is also discussed (19:00), apologies owed to your children and passive aggressive texting (29:30.)

(29:55) Deanna & Frances talk about the importance of letting people know when they hurt you (even though it's not always easy) so they have an opportunity to apologize (no one is a mind reader.) Lastly, (33:15) the girls talk about sh*t we should not be sorry for.

E137: What's Your Escape Plan? 11 lessons from my solo ADHD mom self care vacation

E137: What's Your Escape Plan? 11 lessons from my solo ADHD mom self care vacation

Mama–when was the last time you spent time alone?

And no–I don’t mean the 2 minutes you spend in the bathroom while the dog scratches at the door and you can hear someone yelling “moooom??” from some distant corner of the house.  I mean real alone time–as in, away from your family, inaccessible, OFF THE CLOCK.

    Has it been a while?

Have you…ever had any real alone time?

If you haven’t, it’s understandable. Maybe you just can’t find the time. Or the childcare help.

Maybe you feel selfish or wrong for taking time to yourself.

We feel like we have to be the glue that holds families together, right? Without you, wouldn’t your family just…fall apart?

    Maybe. But maybe that’s okay

In this episode of Motherhood in ADHD, I’ll share 11 lessons I learned from my first solo vacation as an ADHD mom, and more. We’ll talk about:

-Overwhelmed moms who formed “escape plans”--from becoming a nun to checking into rehab (Yeah, motherhood is hard.)

-How my vacation almost didn’t happen because my ADHD brain mixed up the dates and miscommunicated them to my spouse.

-How I felt after getting 10 hours of uninterrupted sleep (YES, this really happened)

-How stepping back can increase our kids’ resilience

-Relationships and ADHD–why it’s so important for us to voice what’s in our head so our partners can understand how our extraordinary brains work

-The time-driven nature of motherhood, and how getting “off the clock” can relieve anxiety for moms with ADHD

-The difference between self-care and after-care, and why it matters

-Chronic illness and motherhood–how you’re more capable than you think when you’ve slid into a dark spot

As an ADHD mama, you’re already a superstar. Listen to this episode to find out how self-care can help you shine even brighter.
